My wife was in Hillcrest for more than 2-years. In that time, I have seen the manager bring a rare combination of drive, care, knowledge and ability and I have watched his effect on the building, the staff and the processes with more and more gratitude.

As for the staff, I simply don’t have the

words to describe just how marvellous they have been. I could take each individual and say just how, in their own unique way, they cared so well for my wife and for me but that would take pages and pages. Each of them is in my memory and heart.

Providing physical help with love and considerate care is wonderful to see and so reassuring to partners. In addition, seeing the planning of care, the thinking of better ways to do things, the chasing other professionals for help, gives partners like me such comfort that all that can be done is being done.

Having just visited my mother after lockdown for the first time, she looked well and happy and the staff as attentive as ever. I liked the idea of visiting outside in the garden, it gives Mum and I something to chat about as her memory is failing of day to day family life. I was pleased to see the outdoor
areas had been renovated making good use of the large garden area. The exterior of the home had been repainted and looks very smart and clean.

A small friendly care home with a family feel. All staff are so friendly and very caring to all residents, often socialising with them in the lounge area. The rooms are clean, fresh and cosy.

My parents recently moved into Hillcrest, into one of the double rooms. The manager and all the staff have been so helpful in making this transition as easy as possible for both my parents and myself as I helped them make this move. Despite making the move during COVID-19, the staff were able to make
us feel welcome whilst still maintaining rigorous safety protocols.
The staff are extremely friendly and caring. They made sure that my parents' personal items were displayed immediately, making the room feel homely for them. My parents have settled in very quickly due in large part to the helpful nature of all the staff at Hillcrest.
I am very happy that we made the decision to choose Hillcrest and am grateful to the staff for their help in making this transition as smooth as it has been.

The home has looked after my husband for two weeks and done an excellent job. He has been very happy and I am very, very pleased with the care he has received. All the staff have been great. I would recommend this home, it's a great place.

There is a nice ambience when you entre although outside appearance could be made more welcoming. This is an old building and a lot of ongoing upgrading is taking place by new management which is nice, particularly the dining room is lovely. You are greeted warmly by the carers and they have a very
good understanding of the residents' needs and their individual requirements. A very difficult job well done.

The lady I support went to Hillcrest as she gets lonely when her day centre closes. It was a huge success and she wants to return.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.077)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.077) out of 10 for Hillcrest is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.842 for Hillcrest is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 57 Ratings = 4.842

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.235 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillcrest is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.8 = 0.735

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hi, I am Andrew Rae Can I say thank you for taking the time to have a look at the Profile Page for Hillcrest Care Home.
I was in the Scots Guards for 25 Years reaching the rank of CSGT, I went all over the world with my regiment operationally and for training getting to meet many different people and cultures. When my service was up in 2011, I looked for a new role that would give me the challenge and fun that service life always gave and to see if I can also take the experiences I had whilst serving and use them to help others.
I worked for several years as a Peri Manager going to many different homes throughout the country to help support them achieve their aims and develop the homes into a homely and pleasurable experience for all to enjoy.
I also supported managers to achieve their aims and help them develop their own way of maintaining a care home in the values that we are all trying to achieve but to make sure and show the Families and loved ones that is was a good choice they made in choosing the right home but to most gain their trust and make sure that trust was honoured.
I can safely say that working in the care sector especially recently has been a great move and career choice as I am having fun as each day brings a new challenge and new story. It is also a pleasure to be working with people who are dedicated to care and who get satisfaction caring for others.
The selfless sacrifices that they make each day makes me proud to be one of the team here at Hillcrest.
It is also an Honour and pleasure to have you trust us with your loved ones and we will make sure that they are loved and cared for safely and allow their independence to be encouraged but mostly to make sure they have fun and enjoy their stay here at Hillcrest.

We have a simple ethos of care, and that is, we expect all in our employ to look after and care for others as we ourselves would expect to be cared for and we will not accept anything less.
