The staff at Larchfield Manor have done a wonderful job in helping my Mum recover from serious illness over the past two years, showing real commitment, care and dedication in the process.
I cannot praise them enough.

The home is in an old large house and it retains the feel more of a small old fashioned hotel.
All the staff are friendly, helpful and professional and my mother has been very happy there for the last 4 years.

Larchfield Manor is in a league of its own for every possible reason. The management of the home at every level is superb. All the staff from top to bottom are or at least appear to be trained to a very high standard. However, they retain a very warm, compassionate and calming approach to their guests.
From my experience, all the staff know all the residents and both understand and accept their needs and their personalities.
The home has the feel of an Edwardian mansion that the ladies in particular love. Instead of the residents sat around in a big circle as is often the case in many homes, there are many reception and leisure areas where ever-changing groups can sit and relax, read, watch TV, knit etc. There is a daily programme of activities and entertainment. Others prefer to wander around the extensive gardens, have a chat or seek their privacy away from their first classrooms. There is always something happening. Larchfield Manor is a home from home, full of fun and laughter.

Professional, caring, efficient, Larchfield staff made the last 12 months of my mother's life as happy and as comfortable as possible and made me confident and reassured that she was as well cared for as I could possibly wish. All staff know her by name ad chatted happily with her. During her final
few weeks, the palliative care, equipment, humanity and love shown to my mother were outstanding. They showed similar care towards me when I visited and kept me fully informed at all times of her welfare.

When our 84-year-old father's dementia meant that my mum was no longer able to cope with him on her own in their home, we looked at several care homes in the Harrogate area. Larchfield stood out from the others, the staff are encouraged to ensure that the residents are made to feel and be treated as
if they would be in their own homes. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and there is a genuine kindness in the staff's attitude towards the residents. The location is very pleasant and it has the nice feeling of a private home about it. Dad has always been treated with dignity, and nothing seems too much trouble for any of the staff. We're so impressed with Larchfield that, when we found that we had to find a care home for my Mum due to a deterioration in her health, we had no hesitation in choosing it as her care home too. We'd have no hesitation in recommending Larchfield to anyone else looking for a care home for their family or loved ones.

My husband and I have just spent several weeks at Larchfield Manor after I had a short stay in hospital. We have been most comfortable here and have been splendidly cared for by the excellent caring and knowledgeable staff. We would be very happy to return to Larchfield Manor should the need arise.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.687)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.687) out of 10 for Larchfield Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.830 for Larchfield Manor is calculated as follows: ( (88 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.83

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.857 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Larchfield Manor is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.957

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
