We needed to find a respite home for Dad quickly as Mum fell unexpectedly and fractured her femur and The Millings sprung to mind as we live in Bedale. We took Dad for a visit and were overwhelmed by its appearance. It is immaculate and looks just like a five-star hotel. Dad decided it was the place
for him and he moved in last Saturday. They are very accommodating and are willing to work his meal times around him being absent on an afternoon to go and visit Mum and his tea is ready for him on his return. Dad has been there less than a week now and the care he is given is second to none. The food is also amazing - Dad has said he will need a larger pair of trousers as it is so good. I would definitely recommend The Millings and it’s very caring staff to anyone looking for a care home.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful review Jane, the comment about the larger pair of trousers made me chuckle. The food is lovely and very moreish. It's a real pleasure having your dad stay with us.

My dear grandmother, who is over 100, has now been at The Millings for a month and is being very well cared for so it's about time I wrote this review. I want to thank The Millings for responding better than any of more than 10 other Care Homes in the area that I contacted with an urgent enquiry as
to whether they would be able to provide recuperative (and potentially long term) care for my grandmother. At the time, she was in hospital following a fall and considered medically fit for discharge but not safe to return home without 24 hour care in place i.e. she was considered to be "bed blocking". If The Millings had not come to the rescue, she would have had to wait for a place on a rehabilitation ward. I perish to think what harm further enforced bed rest might have caused. The Millings truly justifies the accolade "outstanding" because it was the only place which didn't hesitate because of her age, but got on with assessing her needs and making arrangements for her arrival.

Thank you Tim so much for your lovely review, I'm sure it may help to reassure relatives who find themselves in similar circumstances. It's a real pleasure having your grandmother as part of our community.

My father has only been a resident for a short while but from his first visit, he was clear that he wanted to come and stay, without looking elsewhere. The standards of cleanliness and décor are outstanding and everyone was so welcoming. Dad has settled in well and especially loves the garden and being
able to join in activities where he is able. Knowing that he is in a safe environment where he is well looked after is so important, especially as I will be living some distance away. Thank you to all the team.

I visited my Dad at The Millings in April on a trip from Australia and the staff went out of their way to accommodate me despite all the Covid issues. I managed to see my Dad every day in a two week period and it was lovely to see how well cared for he was and to interact with the staff and get to know
them a little. Happy my Dad is in a great place with good care and excellent food. He’s a long way away from me, so knowing he is being well looked after is a comfort.

My mum was very against going near a care home and very grudgingly went in to give us a week's respite. Whilst she did struggle to integrate in a week with long term residents, which is not surprising, she had nothing but praise for the staff and the facilities. She said that every member of staff was
attentive, friendly and chatty. Her bed was very comfortable, and she was totally happy with the quality of the surroundings and the service.
Well done, The Millings.

The Millings is a high-end residential care home with impeccable credentials and it shows. My parents both moved in today. The staff could not have been more welcoming, professional and helpful, It really does have that home from home feel. Their rooms are lovely. Nothing is too much bother for the
staff, who appear to genuinely care about their residents. Being Friday, my parents really enjoyed the fish and chips!

Granny had a lovely, sunny room overlooking the beautiful garden. It was scrupulously clean and comfortable. My highest praise is reserved for the staff, who were always welcoming and cheerful with visitors and never-endingly kind and patient, willing, gentle and thoughtful with the residents. Nothing
was too much trouble. Thank you all.

We cannot praise The Millings highly enough. Our father has been a resident since mid-2019 and the standard of care through this residency has been excellent. Carers spend time with the individuals making them feel special. During the recent Covid-19 situation, all the staff have taken extra precautions,
keeping our precious loved ones safe and well.

Mum went into The Millings as she was struggling to manage on her own at home.
They got on top of her pain management and helped her get her strength and confidence back to go home again.

Lovely, caring, considerate staff. Can't want for anything living here. Impossible to compare value for money with a similar establishment, as no experience of them. To me, the way everything that is run here, is excellent.

The Millings is an excellent care home but has the atmosphere of a small country hotel. It is a fine old building which has been decorated and furnished with great taste. I will definitely recommend The Millings to all my friends.

We always knew that The Millings was the best care home in the area. When my neighbour and friend needed care, it was the first place we thought of, and we were lucky they were able to accommodate her, and we have not been disappointed. The staff are all extremely friendly and go above and beyond to
make the residents feel at home with their care to keep them happy and safe with lots of daily activities.

Our relative has been a resident at The Millings for many years now, and her care has always been excellent. During the pandemic, we have been able to have weekly visits and have seen her in a "bubble" supplied by the home, which has worked extremely well. The staff have remained cheerful throughout
all the crisis.

My mum has been in the nursing home for one year. She has settled in very well, due to the staff, who are very caring and understanding to all of my mum's needs. The home is beautiful, it feels like home from home; everything is run very efficiently. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, as well
as professional in their work, so overall, I am very happy with the care my mum gets at the home.

My mother has been a resident at The Millings since last May, and my sisters and I, could not be more pleased with the care which Mum has enjoyed. All staff are pleasant and professional and keen to help residents and relatives in any way they can. Given the difficult year we have experienced, the care
and consistently excellent service at The Millings have been even more remarkable. Every effort has been made (and continues to be made) to ensure the safety of residents whilst maximising visiting opportunities. I fully recommend The Millings; it's a very special place.

My mother has been a resident at The Millings since October 2019 and is thriving in a caring environment. Despite the obstacles that the Covid-19 Pandemic has thrown at us, I have been in constant contact with Mum and many of the in house activities that she so enjoys have continued. The staff have
remained caring, professional and unerringly upbeat. The installation of 'The Pod' has been brilliant over the winter months. It has facilitated many lovely visits, and Mum has been delighted to see her beautiful great-granddaughter. The look in Mums eyes was worth a thousand hugs.

My mum has been in The Millings since June last year and she has always been very happy and is well cared for, the staff are so helpful and kind and nothing is too much trouble. Since the COVID-19 outbreak I have never once been worried about Mum's health, she is 90 years old and her care has been first
class.
The Millings have done everything possible to make sure all residents are kept safe, they have provided their own PPE from the start, there has always been good communication from the staff, keeping relatives up to date with the latest information. The Millings have now installed a visitors pod, this means I can visit Mum in a safe and comfortable environment.
I would certainly recommend The Millings, I know my mum is in the best place.

The Millings has literally been a lifesaver for my mother. Unfortunately, my mother needed 24/7 care in the middle of the Covid pandemic. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and care my mother has been given; so professional, nothing is too much, good communication skills. Anybody considering
care for a loved one should definitely take a look, beautifully appointed, with well-maintained gardens, friendly staff and residents, with an extra special mention to the activities ladies they have kept the residents going through Covid, a very difficult task! 5* in every way.

My Mum went into The Millings in September this year. She has previously stayed there for three weeks in January and after staying in another home, she said that's where she wanted to go. She has been very happy and settled. Her blood tests have returned to normal as a result of diligent medication
administration by the staff at The Millings so this is a great weight off my mind. She made friends and even been dancing! There's always something going on but equally, there are quiet places if you want to rest. The place is lovely and comfortable and the staff are excellent - I'd be happy there myself!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.777)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.777) out of 10 for The Millings is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.877 for The Millings is calculated as follows: ( (93 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.877

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Millings is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
