I gave The Crest a five-star review two years ago when my wife moved into the home. I have no reason why I should change my opinion, the building is not the Ritz but it is comfortable, clean, warm and secure. The staff are excellent efficient and compassionate and the manager keeps us informed about
any issues. Well done to all keep up the good work.

I cannot fault Mum's care in any way. Mum has been a resident for over 3 years and it has only improved over that time. I feel completely at ease that Mum is well cared for and happy.
I feel the manager and her team genuinely care about the residents and can't thank them enough.

At the moment, the company policy is to have visits only in Dad's room, which I am not too keen on and my dad doesn’t like at all. On the whole, happy with his care. A little disappointed that slippers, glasses, clothes etc keep going missing and are not returned.

Reply from Tracey Holroyd, Company chair at The Crest Care Home

Thank you for your review. We take on board your comments about things going missing and we will work hard to try to improve in this area. We are also keen for the government guidelines to be lifted so that we can get visiting back to normal, but we have to follow them as our main priority has to be to keep everyone safe. As soon as we are permitted to do so, we will lift the restrictions.

The Crest is very welcoming. Staff are friendly and helpful. Care and understanding of people's needs and requirements are evident on the few times I've visited my aunt. I like that I'm informed of what's going on regarding my Aunt's health and wellbeing.

The Crest is a lovely, caring place. The staff are always cheerful and engaged with the residents. It's reassuring to know that my mother is extremely well cared for and safe.

I highly recommend the staff at The Crest to anyone with a relative requiring specialist dementia care. The team seem to be well trained in the specialism, and enthusiastic in their efforts to alleviate the symptoms of this terrible condition. I know my mother was a difficult case, but the staff at
The Crest handled her beautifully and had endless patience. Thank you, Crest staff, we won't forget your invaluable help.

My mother is in care in the home. I have found the staff to be extremely caring and understanding to the resident's needs, showing patience and politeness. As my mother has fallen several times they have gone above and beyond with keeping me informed and up to date. The rooms are large with lovely aspects
and offer extra drawers and wardrobes on request, also the facility to have the resident's own belongings and furniture should that be needed. On visiting you are warmly welcomed into the family atmosphere and included in what your loved one may be doing or you can take private time in the many areas offering privacy and quietness. You can even sit and eat with your family member if visiting when food is served, making you feel very welcome and having lovely interaction.
During Covid 19 lockdown, the staff and managers were exemplary in their care and concerns.
With the home organising activities and knowing individual characters, they do all and so much more to offer a home from home.

Unfortunately, recently, standards at The Crest have slipped somewhat. Communication has been very poor between management, staff and relatives during this difficult time.
Hopefully, things will improve in the near future and get back to their previous high standard.

Very welcoming at the beginning of my granny’s stay, which unfortunately had to be quite rushed due to the pandemic. Lovely rooms and food has been reported back as good. The activities coordinator has been excellent and without her, and not forgetting the cook, her time at The Crest would really not
be a positive one.
The communication from management and some staff is really quite appalling and unprofessional. I do hope in the future when the outbreak and restrictions are lifted this is addressed. Perhaps they are not quite prepared or organised through these difficult times but communication and attitude should not go a miss.

Since the change in ownership, massive improvements have been made. It is a small family home.
The staff and carers are fabulous. In what is a difficult and hard environment, dementia care is very varied and unpredictable, and no two days are the same.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you have noticed the improvements that have been made at The Crest since we took over last year, and that you find our staff and carers to be fabulous. Ideally, we'd like to score five-star responses, at least in some of the areas if not all, and if you'd like to meet with our manager Jamie about how we could improve, please give us a call and we'd be delighted to work with you. Thank you, Tracey

My relative is well looked after. He likes the staff. The house is bright and comfortable with a garden. The activities could be more tailored to needs but depends on residents. The food is very good. Particularly impressed with the welcome and open visiting at all times of day relatives.

My dad has been in the home for 8 weeks, and in that time has made a great improvement since being there. The Crest has a homely feel to it, with friendly staff. Overall we are happy with the service provided but feel improvement could be made to make things better:
- Having regular pad checks/having
correct pads.
- Having more activities throughout the day.
- Laundry - making sure clothes are put away neatly.
- Making sure they are dressed correctly/fully.

The reason why I would not recommend this service is because of the uncertainty of what is happening with The Crest. Overall standard - the lead being the time it took to repair the heating in my father's room. Care and Support - could be excellent by not having agency. See above to get excellent re
staff. Rooms - would be excellent if repairs could be completed quicker. Facilities - it is improving but not many places for families to sit. Cleanliness - wardrobe not clean, back of the toilet. Good hospitality - Activities not for my Dad.

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback and we understand the current sale process is unsettling. In the meantime we have increased our Senior Management oversight in order to support the home and promote improvements.

In some way, I would recommend this service because the staff are excellent, caring. Unfortunately, agency staff make me think that this affects the care stancards. 1. Overall standard could improve - the laundry is poor. 2. Care and support - more permanent staff would make an excellent. 3. HC-One
staff excellent, not keen on agency staff. 4. Facilities need more downstairs toilets. 5. Cleanliness - toilets need attending. 6. Activities - need more.

The Crest is a comfortable, homely, well run care home with excellent home cooked food, good entertainment and friendly, caring staff.
It has the feel of a person's home rather than being clinical. I can relax in the knowledge that my father is well looked after and his personal needs are met.

We have found the care staff at The Crest to be amazing and on the whole, we are very happy as a family with the care my dad is receiving here.
There seems to be a core staff who are extremely caring and who manage to treat residents with respect and dignity despite the very challenging nature of dementia
residents. Of note, the deputy manager seems to be on duty and very involved every time I visit. The food provided is home cooked and of a high standard and residents are helped with feeding if needed. We visit often and are always made very welcome.
There will always be areas that can be improved in any care home but at the end of the day, it is the staff that make the difference and I can highly recommend the current team.

The Crest is a "home from home" with a wonderful caring team who treat residents with respect, dignity and friendship. Residents are encouraged to be individuals within a safe environment. Activities are plentiful from art and crafts, music and reminiscence therapy to name but a few.

The home has

a lovely happy and warm feel to it, and visitors are encouraged. The food is home cooked, varied and tasty. All the staff including administration, housekeeping, catering and care are sociable, helpful and supportive to everyone - family, visitors and most importantly, the residents. My dad had a wonderful year with his 'friends' and died there with dignity and surrounded by love.

When we moved my father to this care home two years ago I put a review on this site. I was delighted and relieved. Since that time the management has changed and my sister and I have now moved my father to another care home. The care and attention my father received at this home reduced substantially
but I was very sad to take him away, however I could not leave him to be treated as he was. I have been in touch with the CQC and the Local Authority and I understand the unsatisfactory manager has now moved on. However, I cannot recommend this care home any longer.
