Armstrong House care home in Bensham, near Gateshead, is a modern, purpose-built home with a friendly and compassionate team who provide exceptional residential, nursing and specialised dementia care, as well as sensitive end of life care.

Each en-suite bedroom is light, airy and comfortable. The home has wonderful facilities including cosy lounges and dining rooms, plus a hair and nail salon. The beautifully landscaped grounds have raised flower beds, patios and lawn areas - they’re the perfect place to sit and chat with visitors or get involved in gardening.

The team works with residents and their families to design care and activity plans tailored to each person's unique needs and preferences, and the talented chefs also create bespoke menus.

Happy with how the home is run and Mam's care. Mam has dementia so don't get to know what goes on from day to day but moans about nothing happening.

I think this place is very good for the needs of my relative who needs care and helpful staff. Friendly happy staff. Plenty for them to do. Very much going on to keep them active. Within one week I've seen so much change in my relative. So happy.

My mother has been in Armstong House for a year, the care she receives is outstanding all the staff go above and beyond for my mother. All my requests have been met. All the girls and guys are always loving and caring for my mother, they are like family to her now. When my mother became ill and was
admitted into hospital all the staff were concerned and rang me every day, to ask how she is, which was a lovely way of showing how much they all care for her. Mother can be a little cheeky now and then and they still attend to all her needs, I have to say all the staff are amazing in their care for my mother. They are always very friendly to me. I would like to thank you for all of your kindness and attention for helping me to take care of my mother as her dementia is gradually getting worse. It's times like this when I realise how lucky I am to have people like you in my life. As you help me a great deal in lots of ways. I wished I had family like the staff in Armstrong House.

My aunt came to Armstrong House in January 2022, which was arranged by the hospital. I could not have found a better care home if I had to arrange it myself. The level of care is outstanding and my aunt was very happy there. The staff and managers always kept me informed and treated my aunt with dignity.

The staff were outstanding looking after my mam. They communicated well with us and informed us of any changes to her care. They were so welcoming when we visited and caring and compassionate to my mam and treated her with dignity until her passing. The home is lovely and clean and they do a great job
of keeping the residents safe. All the staff from Manager, Office, Carers, Nurses, Domestic, Handyman have been brilliant. I would definitely recommend Armstrong House for anyone needing nursing and Dementia care.

Outstanding levels of care for our Mum as well as ourselves (four children visiting Mum). Covid restrictions were a bit OTT but know the home wasn't to blame. I also strongly oppose the sacking of unvaccinated staff. The care from Armstrong House was amazing though. Lovely staff who cared for our mother to her final days.

My Mum was in Armstrong House for three and half years. The staff go beyond their duty to look after the residents. They are caring and treat the residents as if they were their own family, the residents are treat with dignity until the end. Also the family are kept informed of all
that goes on. It
has been a difficult year for homes, Armstrong House has kept the residents safe, providing visiting options as soon as it was possible. Cleanliness in the home is superb for all areas and the residents themselves. Activities for residents is fantastic.

The dignity and empathy given to my dad were excellent. The short time he was in the care of Armstrong House, he was comfortable. Fantastic communications from all staff to myself was faultless. Even though he didn't have much time left, I appreciate being able to see him when and however long I wanted
to be there. Staff are wonderful, a credit to social care, showed me, there are still wonderful people in this world.

Unfortunately, Mam had a short stay in Armstrong House, but during her time there, I thought the staff went above and beyond what was expected to keep her comfortable, amused and safe. From my point of view, nothing was too much trouble, and I was kept well informed of all circumstances surrounding

I cannot praise the staff enough for the wonderful care given to my aunt. In her final days, we witnessed the wonderful love, care, and attention she was given. The care and support we were given whilst we sat with her on her final 3 days before she passed away was second to none, with a plentiful supply
of delicious meals, sandwiches, and drinks. Supporting us all of the time. If we had to leave her room staff stayed with her ensuring she was never left alone. The home itself is beautifully clean and furnished. I cannot recommend this home highly enough.

Job Title: Home Manager

I’m a Registered Nurse with over 25 years of experience in care home management.


I’ve achieved my Level 4 in Management training and am also a qualified mental health first aider.


I have experience working for large care providers and care homes, including looking after a multi-site home that I helped to turn around from a Requires Improvement rating to Good in all areas within six months. I joined Care UK after hearing great things and wanting to become part of the team.


My role is centred around making sure residents and families are happy, and my favourite part of my job is spending time with residents and their relatives. In this role, it’s important to be open, friendly and outgoing. I believe the Home Manager needs to be a people person, have an open-door policy and always be approachable.


As a team, we support each other like a family through good times and bad. I feel proud of what we do when residents are happy in the home.


I like reading and doing crafts when I’m not working. I also enjoy spending time with my family.
