Armstrong House care home in Bensham, near Gateshead, is a modern, purpose-built home with a friendly and compassionate team who provide exceptional residential, nursing and specialised dementia care, as well as sensitive end of life care.

Each en-suite bedroom is light, airy and comfortable. The home has wonderful facilities including cosy lounges and dining rooms, plus a hair and nail salon. The beautifully landscaped grounds have raised flower beds, patios and lawn areas - they’re the perfect place to sit and chat with visitors or get involved in gardening.

The team works with residents and their families to design care and activity plans tailored to each person's unique needs and preferences, and the talented chefs also create bespoke menus.

The short time my mother has been in Armstrong House, she has been treated with respect and has had wonderful care. The hardworking staff make time for relatives and are very kind and friendly. Armstrong House is very clean and well equipped and has a wonderfully happy atmosphere.

The short time our family have had to visit our mam at Armstrong House has been made much easier thanks to them, help given to mam by all the members of staff. The home is well run and all the residents are treat with great dignity, patience and care. The family visits have been less stressful than
could have been simply because of how welcoming the staff have been and we all wish to say a huge thank you to the manager, nurses, staff for all your help this short time.

Job Title: Home Manager

I’m a Registered Nurse with over 25 years of experience in care home management.


I’ve achieved my Level 4 in Management training and am also a qualified mental health first aider.


I have experience working for large care providers and care homes, including looking after a multi-site home that I helped to turn around from a Requires Improvement rating to Good in all areas within six months. I joined Care UK after hearing great things and wanting to become part of the team.


My role is centred around making sure residents and families are happy, and my favourite part of my job is spending time with residents and their relatives. In this role, it’s important to be open, friendly and outgoing. I believe the Home Manager needs to be a people person, have an open-door policy and always be approachable.


As a team, we support each other like a family through good times and bad. I feel proud of what we do when residents are happy in the home.


I like reading and doing crafts when I’m not working. I also enjoy spending time with my family.
