The Chesters is unique in that it delivers what it says. "personal care in a home environment". This is achieved because the staff are well motivated and led from the front by management. All the staff create a sense of belonging, to residents and this is evident when one first walks through the doors.
Families are kept well informed of their loved ones well being and interaction at all levels helps to create the warm and caring atmosphere.
The length of service by staff speaks for itself and demonstrates the ethos of care at The Chesters.

My nana lived in The Chesters for approx 2 years. Myself and my family cannot put into words how grateful we are for the care she received during her time there. Sadly my nana passed away there last Christmas Eve and even during this difficult time the management and care staff were there showing their
support. Myself and the family cannot thank the staff enough for all there hard work and kindness... keep up the good work :)

An extremely well run, caring home. Residents are well cared for and I have recommended this home to several friends.

Both my father and my aunt until recently have been residents at the home. My aunt died in the home and over a three week period the care they gave her was exceptional. My father still resides in the home he suffers from vascular dementia and cannot walk. He can be extremely awkward but the staff still
treat him with respect and always make sure his personal needs are dealt with, with dignity. I cannot fault this home. They all go out of their way to keep us informed of dads appetite and medical needs.

My mother has been a resident at The Chesters Care Home since January 2016 and has been looked after very well. The manager and her staff are always approachable and are available to assist with requests from visitors. The staff all seem to be well trained and are very caring towards the residents,
and try to encourage their involvement where possible in activities at the home. My mother has a lovely room with a wooded aspect and she eats well in the pleasant dining room at the Home. Residents are treated with dignity by the staff and a peaceful atmosphere is engendered within the Home. The Home's owners take a genuine interest in the residents at their home and are often on site. Whilst everyone will undoubtedly have their own requirements, I have no hesitation in recommending the Chesters.

My mother has been in this care home for just over a year now and her well-being has improved tremendously during this time. She is looked after by kind and caring staff - and yes - these staff do actually care - it's not just a job for them. They are lead by a very good manager (hands off other care
homes - this one's ours!).

The entertainment is marvellous, Mam has been taken out for meals, gone to the cinema, and enjoyed many entertainers brought in on a regular basis. There are no nasty smells in the home, it is lovely and clean and my Mam is very happy here.

My father died in the Chesters on January 7th, 2017. He had been in The Chesters for eleven wonderful months. I saw wonderful because that was both his and my experience of being there. My father had dementia and was physically frail and all of his needs were met by the professional, diligent kind and
caring staff. The manager had a great team of staff who are dedicated to their job. This includes domestic, laundry and kitchen staff along with carers. All follow the same ethos of the residents being a priority. My father was always clean, comfortable and well nourished in this excellent home.

We are very happy with the care provided. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The staff are friendly, well trained and treat residents with respect. Good home cooking and regular meal times are focal points of the day. Regular in-house activities include the tailor-made morning paper ("The Daily Sparkle"),
quizzes and guest entertainers in the afternoon. Our very first impression - on visiting The Chesters, was that this is "homely" care home.

Without doubt each visit to Chesters gives peace of mind with regard to best care for mam. What more can a family man want from a care home. The manager and her staff are approachable, helpful and always have time for you making their very demanding job seem easy a skill in itself. We love visiting
mam at The Chesters and know she is in a great environment receiving everthing she needs.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.981)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.981) out of 10 for The Chesters Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for The Chesters Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.981 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Chesters Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.6 = 0.606

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
