The Bedewell grange care home is outstanding in my experience, my mum who has dementia is there as a permanent resident and the care she receives from the staff is exceptional, the decor is beautiful and it's always spotless clean. The food is nutritious and lovely, there's always lovely treats for
the residents in the coffee room. Mums settled in so well and she really likes being there and says she always feels safe. She loves all the lovely activities they put on for the residents and she's made a few friends in there. I'm so happy I chose this care home for her. Lovely place.

Our brother was in hospital for 14 weeks after suffering a bleed on the brain in which it affected his speech and a little of his concentration. We we're informed by the consultant that he needed 24 hour care, so then we looked at Barchester Bedewell Grange Care Home, as soon as I walked in the care
home we felt a warmth, the management, activities, housekeepers, chefs and fabulous care staff go above and beyond in making our brother feel like their family member. I work in a care home and Bedewell Grange is a great choice of residential and dementia care.

This care facility deserves the best possible review! Mum has been a resident since Easter and has no time in her life now to be lonely, sad or miss her independence. She is continually encouraged to join in the fabulous activities so carefully planned and executed. The carers, managers and activity
coordinators are fabulous and nothing, at all, is too much trouble for them. There is a new cleaner who Mum has high praise for. I had no idea such wonderful places existed and we are delighted we are lucky enough to have Mum in their excellent, caring hands. Thank you so much Barchester Bedewell Grange Care Home. If any prospective relatives want to chat to me, I would be delighted to share my thoughts with them.

Our family was told our mam/nana was no longer safe to live alone and to source alternate accommodation. We had never dealt with this before and really didn't know where to begin, after lots of research we opted for Barchester Bedewell Grange Care Home on a respite basis. After a few weeks this was
made permanent due to the care and professionalism of the staff. From day one, all members of staff and residents made our mam/nana extremely comfortable, quickly turning her into a social butterfly. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who go above and beyond not only for her but for our family. The accommodation is immaculate and has a real sense of a family environment with lots of activities to keep her stimulated.

Due to distance, this was our first visit since our friend arrived from hospital.
We were very impressed with the building's condition. It was very clean and obviously well looked after.
All the staff were professional, polite, friendly and helpful, including the manager who spoke with a genuine
love for the residents and found time to speak with us and allay our worries.
Our friend was very happy there and there seemed genuine affection for him to make his stay happier.

I have found Bedewell Grange to be an amazing care home. It is such a happy and supportive place. My mother has thrived in the environment here. She is cared for by the most caring and professional staff you could wish for and nothing is ever a bother to them. There is such a great community feeling
and residents can join in many varied activities. I could not wish for a better place for her.

My brother was moved from another care home in the area because we thought he wasn't being well looked after, what a difference this has made to him! His care team are supportive and forthcoming with information about my brother. He is so much happier here. He was here as a temporary measure, but we
are requesting that he stay here permenantly.

My mam has been in this care home since the middle of November 2023. Everyone is very helpful and if I ever have a problem it is dealt with quickly and efficiently. It was a hard decision to put my mam into care, but I can now sleep at night knowing she is well looked after if she is poorly or anything
is wrong and I am always informed immediately.

Staff are generally lovely to Grandmother and us however grandmother herself and her room are often dirty and left that way and her bed is often filthy. This is becoming very distressing for family members as Grandmother has dementia and is unable to clean or remember she should bathe regularly.

We greatly appreciate all feedback from our residents and their families, and I am sorry to hear that your experience with the service is not at our expected standard. We endeavour to give a consistent level of care and service at every stage of a resident's and family's experience. I would like to ask that you come and share your concerns in greater detail in order for a solution to be implemented. We always aim to support our residents to be as independent as possible on moving into the home, however as their needs change we need to adapt and would welcome your input in order to provide a person-centred approach. Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments.

My dad, unfortunately, had a stroke in February 2020, it has been so debilitating for him and heartbreaking for our family. Dad came to Barchester Bedewell Grange Care Home in December 2022, until the present time. His care has been undoubtedly the most kind and dignified through his time here, he has
hugs from staff, he is thought of very highly from management and throughout each department. I am so pleased we chose Barchester Bedewell Grange Care Home.

We chose Bedewell Grange Hebburn for respite care for my mother-in-law after a hospital stay. Since her arrival the level of care is outstanding. We are very confident that each and every member of staff are working hard to ensure she is happy and settled. It is apparent that management is excellent
and this ripples through to all the team who clearly enjoy working at Bedewell Grange. The team communicate well and regularly and all requests are fulfilled in a timely way. We feel that nothing is too much trouble for staff despite them being busy. The facility is always spotless, our family member is always clean and well-dressed and her room and bedding fresh and clean. We really appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in her care.

This care home cares. My grandad sadly had a cerebral stroke following his Covid jab and was admitted to hospital. Due to the pandemic and lockdown, we could not see him or visit.
After several months he was then allowed home which was a very upsetting and stressful time as a family adapting to the
new normal. Having carers back and forward, high stress if they didn't show up etc.
He then had several extended trips to the hospital with UTIs. We were desperate for him to receive the best care but secondly some stability and calm following this unexpected, devastating and very chaotic 20 months. We have found that relief here at Bedewell Grange. From the personal touches making him feel special and well respected to communication with family so we are involved and assured of his care and wellbeing.
The staff elucidate information, they are kind, understanding, supportive, humour and very well presented.
Thank you for making an excruciating decision feel like the right one.

My mam passed away yesterday peacefully in her sleep after being a resident for over 8 years. I can't fault the care that she has had during her time there. We weren't allowed in for her 90th because of Covid but the staff made such a fuss of her and sent me pictures. So I would like to say a big thank
you to all of the staff.
I have recommended the home on several occasions to people looking for an excellent care home and I'd be happy to do it again.
I am a nurse so I knew what I was looking for in my mams care.

My mother has been a resident at Bedewell Grange Care Home for 4 years. During that time she has received excellent care. The staff as well as the domestic staff have been wonderful, especially during the pandemic. I also think in our current state of affairs ie, the cost of living, that your staff
should be given a cost of living rise, they are so hard working. I can't thank them enough for the care and dignity they have given my mother.

My mam has been a resident here for six months, and during that time, the staff have done everything to help her settle and made it an easier transition for us all as a family. My mam is very happy here and enjoys all of the activities and entertainment they have. We are very happy with everything.

Since my brother has been a resident from January 22, he is able to walk a lot better. He is eating more and putting on weight. He has gained a little more independence and become much more settled and gelling with staff as they take good care of him. A definite improvement to his life.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.562)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.562) out of 10 for Barchester Bedewell Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.797 for Barchester Bedewell Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (106 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 118 Ratings = 4.797

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.765 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Bedewell Grange Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.865

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hi, my name is Frederick, and I am a Senior Carer here at Bedewell Grange. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and an MBA in Business Administration, with over 11 years of professional experience in one of Nigeria's leading banks.

While my background may seem unconventional, I discovered a deep-seated passion for caregiving while tending to my ageing mother before her dear passing in 2021.

Relocating to the UK, I sought to channel this passion and embarked on a career in healthcare. I joined the Bedewell team in 2022 as a Carer and quickly progressed to the role of Senior Carer, thanks to the incredible support I received from the management.

I absolutely love my job and cherish the supportive environment fostered by the Bedewell team. I feel incredibly privileged to share the home of our lovely residents and will continue to do my best to contribute to their well-being.

I have diligently completed all necessary training and am eager to continue expanding my knowledge and contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector. I look forward to meeting you or your loved ones at Bedewell. Thank you.
