My father has been settled since he arrived in 2019. We have noticed a change for the better since the new owners took over in 2020. The decoration in the main rooms has been improved, making them more pleasant for the residents.

I would not hesitate to recommend the care home. My mam gets the best care. The staff know my mam's needs. They take the time to get to know the residents, their likes and dislikes etc in every area of their lives; hobbies, work past etc which is great because it means they can always have a chat with
the staff. Honestly, it's not easy Mam being in a home but I know she is in the best ever place.

Since removing my father from a previous care home because he was treated really bad and he was so unhappy there, he is a changed man since he went into the Lodge Residential Care Home. The staff are so loving and caring; I feel happy to leave him there and go home with peace of mind. My Dad is smiling
again thanks to the staff.

The manager and her staff showed care and compassion when caring for my wife until her passing. We will be forever grateful for the time we were allowed to spend with my wife at the most difficult time. I would recommend this care home to anyone.

I am so thankful at how caring and professional all the staff were with my mam when she was in their care. They made things easier for us when my mam passed and gave us time and space to be with her until the end.

I was initially anxious about placing my mother into a care home. After visiting The Lodge, I was straight away reassured that she would be well cared for. During these strange times, she has been extremely well looked after and I have had regular updates regarding her health and wellbeing. The members
of staff that I have spoken to, have proved to be dedicated, caring and sincere. They have gone above and beyond to help when needed. I would highly recommend The Lodge to anyone needing their help, and I have nothing but admiration for the manager and staff. Thank you.

My father has been at The Lodge for about 6 weeks in rehab. He was adamant he would never stay there permanently. Now thanks to the kindness, patience and care capacity of the staff he has decided to stay as a resident. He has gained weight due to the "fantastic food" (his words) and at 94 is happy
and alert once more. I cannot praise The Lodge and its staff enough. They are 1st Class.

The staff go out of their way to help. When I phone, the staff answer the questions I ask about my father-in-law. When we visit, we are told how he is keeping. We have been told he is always singing. He is looking a lot better in the residential home. He is coming up to 97 years old.

Since the care home has been taken over, the care my mother gets is spot on. All the staff are great at their job and always busy, but they find time if you need them. Also, when you walk in, it has a pleasant smell. Last time it did not smell very clean but the new company running it has it sorted.
So keep up the good work and well done.

I was thoroughly pleased with the care and attention that was provided for my mother whilst in the "Lodge Residential Care Home". The numerous members of staff that I had spoken to in one way or another proved to be dedicated and sincere in the work that they performed toward my mother, for which, I
am extremely grateful. Certain members of the staff were able to provide communication access for my mother to her relatives who live in the United States of America, and my mother really appreciated that towards the end of her life, as she would not have managed to carry that out on her own.
I would really recommend the "Lodge" to anyone thinking of using their facilities, and I have nothing but admiration for the way they execute their duties. Thanks!

Thanks to all the staff who are taking care of my mother. She tells me she appreciates what you all do for her and kindness, as I do. With all the restrictions due to the virus, being able to have weekly video calls on Zoom keeps all the family in touch. Thanks for taking the time to allow this to happen
as I know it is not easy when you all are busy attending to the residents.

The care I receive is to a very high standard. The food made by the chef is to a very high standard. I feel able to talk to staff and the manager if I have any worries and that I am allowed to have my meals with my friends.

I am overjoyed with my recent visit to see my 99-year-old grandma. I travelled from Surrey only for lockdown to be imposed a couple of days after I arrived. The staff and manager were extremely accomodating and allowed for myself to stand outside to wave and see her for the first time in 6 months.
My grandma has only been at the home been for 3 months and she looked so happy and well cared for, totally at ease and happy to have the company of the staff and residents. It was great to see her in person. Thank you so much to everyone at The Lodge. My grandma is the happiest and brightest that she has been for a long time.

The Lodge is a friendly and homely place for residents stays. The staff are very professional and take the time to make sure the residents are comfortable, certain staff go beyond their jobs and will go out of their way to make sure residents are given the time to be heard and talked to and made to
feel wanted. Rooms need updating and painting.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.942)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.942) out of 10 for The Lodge Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.765 for The Lodge Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 68 Ratings = 4.765

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.177 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Lodge Residential Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.577

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

At the age of 16 years I started my career as a cadet nurse at the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle. I qualified as a nurse in 1977, then progressed in my studies to become an orthopaedic nurse in 1979. I spent many years working for the NHS until my second child was born in 1985.

I then transferred to the independent sector and worked as a nurse specialising in Dementia Care and Staff Training & Development.

I enrolled with Northumbria University and achieved my Certificate in education and a Degree in Teaching Training and Education. This provided a pathway for me to spend 15 years training Care Home Managers to the standards specified by Governing authorities.

In my capacity of Training Director for two National Care Home Companies, I travelled the Country and Managed Government Training contracts with a national team of 20 trainers and educators.

In 2011 I decided to spend a lot of missed quality time with my family and resigned from my post. Two years after I joined the Independent Sector to work local as a Care Home Manager. This I have been doing for the past 12 years and hope to continue for years to come
