My dad spent three and a half years at The Lodge Care Home, during this time he was always well settled and happy. My dad was well looked after and always treated with respect and dignity. I cannot thank the staff enough for looking after him unconditionally and for the respect that we were shown at
the end of my dad’s life, thank you all so much. I would not hesitate in recommending this care home.

Thank you Jackie for your kind comments about our Care team. We appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback for The Lodge Care Home. Thank you again Jackie, if there is anything more we can do please do not hesitate to reach out.

My mother is very happy here. She loves the care staff. If a do occasionally have any concerns I feel able to approach the manager and it is usually resolved very quickly. The home has an activity co-ordinator who goes above and beyond. My brother and sister are also very happy with the service.

This is a fantastic care home. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. I believe there have been some negative comments about the home, but it seems to be making up for that. A friend of the family is a current resident and is receiving the best care possible. It is a difficult job to do and I take
my hat off to all of the dedicated staff who work so hard to improve the remaining years of the service users in their care.

I don’t get into the home often, but what I have seen and heard of the care delivered, has left me rather impressed. The staff deserve far more credit than they receive.

I wish all the very best to these amazing kind, hard-working individuals for all of their dedicated kindness and support.

Happy with the care that my mam receives and I am informed of any incidents that occur.
My mam is more mobile since residing at The Lodge and appears very happy when members of our family visit.
The staff appear to engage very well with the residents and are very loving and are not afraid to show
affection.

My dad has been at The Lodge for two years now, he is very shy and reluctant to join in, however a carer has worked with my dad and gently encouraged him to sit with the other male residents for a chat and even been able to get him to have a couple of meals in the dining room, which for my dad is a
huge achievement.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.942)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.942) out of 10 for The Lodge Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.765 for The Lodge Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 68 Ratings = 4.765

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.177 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Lodge Residential Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.577

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

At the age of 16 years I started my career as a cadet nurse at the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle. I qualified as a nurse in 1977, then progressed in my studies to become an orthopaedic nurse in 1979. I spent many years working for the NHS until my second child was born in 1985.

I then transferred to the independent sector and worked as a nurse specialising in Dementia Care and Staff Training & Development.

I enrolled with Northumbria University and achieved my Certificate in education and a Degree in Teaching Training and Education. This provided a pathway for me to spend 15 years training Care Home Managers to the standards specified by Governing authorities.

In my capacity of Training Director for two National Care Home Companies, I travelled the Country and Managed Government Training contracts with a national team of 20 trainers and educators.

In 2011 I decided to spend a lot of missed quality time with my family and resigned from my post. Two years after I joined the Independent Sector to work local as a Care Home Manager. This I have been doing for the past 12 years and hope to continue for years to come
