Grangewood is a bright and welcoming care home offering gold standard residential care for older people, including those living with dementia. The purpose-built care home is set in the village of Shiney Row, close to Houghton-le-Spring in Tyne and Wear.

The home has a real community feel and is close to the local village library, medical centre and various churches. There's also a post office and a pub on the doorstep, and good transport links, which all helps residents to retain their independence.

All of the bedrooms at Grangewood have en-suite facilities and are stylishly furnished. Your loved one is welcome to bring their own treasured possessions and items of furniture to help them to feel more at home.

Nothing to complain of. I would recommend this care home to anybody. The staff are so friendly and it's lovely chatting with them. It feels like a family. I know my Mam is well cared for so I have nothing to worry about.

I have been very happy with the care given to my father since he was resident in Feb 2015. Staff are pleasant and dedicated. Food is excellent and dad is well looked after. The premises are very clean, well decorated and warm.

Grangewood is a very friendly and caring place to be. The staff are very professional and always approachable. My dad has been in Grangewood for 5 months and during this time he has been well looked after, kept clean and tidy and well fed. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The home is decorated lovely and is always clean and tidy. I'm happy that my dad is in Grangewood as it is much much better than
other homes we visited.

Ever since my mother became a resident at Grangewood, I have had nothing but admiration and total trust in all the staff. They are so courteous and friendly with both visitors and residents. Any problems or situations are explained thoroughly and you feel at ease with things that if not explained thoroughly,
could cause concern. A lovely facility enhanced by great staff and management.

My mother came to know Grangewood care home as her home, despite only living there for 5 months. My sister and I couldn't have wished for her to spend her last few months in such a warm and caring environment. It was spotlessly clean at all times. The facilities were modern and up to date and proved
to be what my mother had craved for so long, as simple as a bath but one that hydraulics helped to lift her into it. The food was first class with so much choice. My mother was there from May 2016 to 16th Sept 2016 when she sadly passed away. I will always be so very grateful for everything the staff and the Manageress did for her and how welcome they made her and how much care they gave her. A truly wonderful set of people who made an old lady's last few months worth living for. Thank you

Never thought my mother would settle as she is 91 years old. All staff are very good with her, especially when she had an episode of Alzheimer's disease, which she will have periodically.

Very disappointed with the level of care being provided. Staff working within the EMI floor are in the main polite and caring but are not suitably trained in Dementia care. Very few activities are provided and too much reliance on medication.

Job Title: Home Manager

I’m an experienced Nurse and Home Manager and I’m passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for the people we care for. I believe that great care is about going beyond what is expected to make a difference in residents’ lives.


I also think it’s important to take a caring approach to colleagues, supporting them to do their best work and to fulfil their potential in the workplace. It’s our people who make all the difference and help us to deliver superb care, so if they’re happy, our residents are too.


I’m very proud of Grangewood’s strong links with the local community and I’m always keen to enhance these so that residents can continue to feel a part of local life and enjoy a lovely lifestyle. One of my favourite parts of the day is chatting with residents and listening to their life stories. There’s so much we can learn from the older generation.
