Mum became a resident in April 2024. She has settled in well and is looked after to a good standard. Her room is comfortable and well maintained. Mum has interactive with others in the home which she never did at home.

Arranging the transition of loved ones into the care of others is a difficult and emotionally draining experience. Having recently been through this, I will forever owe a huge debt of gratitude to all the staff and carers at Valley View for helping ease any expectations in order that both my parents
could enjoy precious time together. Also, the help and accommodating attitude following my father's passing is worthy of note and much appreciated. Undoubtedly the best asset in Valley View are the care staff. Truly these people are angels in human form and I thank each of them for their compassionate care.

Reply from Honor Keatley, Group Business Development Director at Valley View & Penshaw House

Thank you so much for your heartfelt review. It is indeed a huge impact making the decision to seek care for loved ones but I am so thankful that our team made that difficult time less challenging for you. I agree - they really are our best asset! With best wishes, Group Business Development Director.

The home is so friendly and welcoming, care workers are very welcoming the care, dignity and compassion they show to the patients is to be commended.
My father has been a resident for a year and he is a different person since moving in. More active, more energy, the home has given him a new lease of
life.
I would highly recommend this home to anyone considering putting any love one in a care home.

I had to put my dad in care in January. I had looked after him since my mam passed away 4+ years - his needs were quite complex, blind, catheter, COPD and I was shattered as I also work full-time. He didn't want to go, just wanted to stay with me. I was an emotional wreck when I went to visit one particular
member of staff - the care and compassion I received was second to none! My dad loves it now, involved in everything - what a difference a few months make. All the staff are exceptional. Thank you.

My experiences visiting my mam in Valley Row is always pleasant (albeit a little daunting at times, no knowing how Mam is going to be when I visit her). The management and all of the staff are accommodating, friendly and very willing to help when it is needed.

My nana moved into Valley View & Penshaw House Care Home in February of this year, the home is very warm and welcoming, the staff are all lovely and always there to reassure the family as well as the residents. The care my nana has received is second to none, We, as a family, have seen a massive difference
in my nana in such a short time and we are very happy. We all, my nana included, made the best decision in Valley View Care Home.

Mam was very unsettled when she first came to Valley View & Penshaw House Care Home but the staff looked after her so well she settled in and made friends with other residents. The staff mix with the residents like old friends but are very professional in what they do. Some even give up their own time
to help entertain them and us.

My uncle was a resident at Valley View & Penshaw House Care Home until his recent passing. The care and compassion he received during his time there from all the management and staff were outstanding. He loved it there, they made him so happy and I cannot thank them enough for all they did right until
the end and will be forever grateful.

My brother came to Valley View & Penshaw House Care Home in difficult circumstances after a long stay in the hospital. His condition was poor, and his disabilities were very severe. From the start, the staff and management took the demands of his case in their stride, and he settled very well and thrived.
The staff have always been very open in discussing my brother’s situation and have communicated well when it came to any problems. Visiting access is very informal (apart from the periods of Covid restrictions), and this has also been very reassuring. The atmosphere of Valley View is calming, and the staff are always very reassuring in their interactions with the residents. The residents have mixed abilities, and the overall impression is that they gel together very well in a very calming and cheerful atmosphere. The buildings, facilities and rooms are well-maintained and clean. I have never departed from my visits to Valley View with anything other than a favourable impression.

When looking for a care home for my dad, Valley View stood out immediately on inspection. Over the past five years, our decision has been vindicated on many occasions. It provided a safe and caring environment in which my dad could happily spend the last few years of his life. He was always treated
with great dignity by very caring staff, who are a credit to their valued profession. We cannot thank you enough.

Been to see Dad today. He is doing really well and is very settled in Penshaw House.
He is very well cared for. The past couple of weeks he hasn't been well and both staff and the local GP, picked up on this and sorted him, straight away. He is also enjoying the new activities. Thank you to all staff.

Valley View have looked after my Uncle, on and off over these past 7 months and have made him totally at home there. So, he will be on a permanent stay from now on. They solved all his issues and have succeeded in getting him more motivated than he was. That's a result on its own. My sister and I are
so pleased with this as he had given up on life till he got there. The staff cater to all his needs and wants, which is what he needed and wanted. My thanks to the manager and all the hard-working Staff, who have made a great difference for him. Thanks again for doing this!

Mum has been in Valley View for 15 months now. She is settled in the care home and considers it her home, and the care workers part of her extended family. The fact that the home is part of our community was very important in our choice of care home and Mum remaining there, after being initially placed
at Valley View straight from hospital in April 2020. The staff are incredible and work well over and above to provide an excellent standard of care for the residents. The manager of the care home is entirely approachable and responsive if any issues arise as are all of the senior staff. I commend Valley View and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. All care home staff have been on the frontline during the last 15 months, and the staff at Valley View deserve value and recognition for their remarkable work and endurance during the pandemic.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.139)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.139) out of 10 for Valley View & Penshaw House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.430 for Valley View & Penshaw House is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.43

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.709 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Valley View & Penshaw House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.909

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
