My mother lived at Valley View & The Lodge for 9 years and was treated with care, love and dignity throughout the time spent there, also I was given support which was a great help. The management and staff do a wonderful job with always a smile and the care of the residents always comes first.

I find the staff here excellent. I feel comfortable making a phone call if I have a concern and it is always sorted. I cannot fault the cleanliness and the food is excellent, once a month I have a meal in the care home with my husband, it is always first class.
My husband is very settled here and
long may it continue.

I have found all the staff very pleasant, always available to answer any questions or sort out any problem. My mother is looked after with dignity. Whenever she would like a shower it's always possible and has her hair done every week which she really looks forward to.
Her choice of food is always
available.
My overall view of my mother's care is excellent.

I feel my mum receives the best possible care at Valley View. The staff really know her as she has been there a long time. There are many members of staff who have worked at the home for all the years she has been a resident. Therefore they know her likes and dislikes and her preferences although she
is no longer able to communicate. Mum is "cared for" and "cared about" at Valley View.

I enjoy living at Valley View and have had a lot of support from staff considering my mental health team is only just doing something now that the manager pushes and is there and does her very best all the time. Also, the manager runs the home smoothly with the both of them, they are a credit to the
company. I think our facilities need redecorating (lounge) we got told months ago if we kept it clean they would. Also, they need a new sofa and we need our washer fixing. I also think the unit should have a dryer in the corner of the kitchen. One is meant to be independent and there are too many clothes going missing when they go to the laundry. There's a resident fund the unit never benefit from it.

My father has now been a resident since January 2017 for respite. He has received excellent care here.
Father is a very independent/stubborn man and staff have been excellent/patient with him. If Father can't return home we hope he will be able to reside here permanently.

My brother was taken from hospital to live at Valley View at the beginning of June 2016. They were extremely happy for him to reside at the home and he is very happy and content. They have done more for him in the short time he has been with them than I ever could. He has had dysphagia tests and they
have had the doctor out to him. All of his needs are taken care of with dignity and respect. They are having him assessed for a wheelchair as his mobility has deteriorated quite quickly I am more than happy with their care.

I find that Valley View is a caring and welcoming environment for elderly and vulnerable people particularly with dementia. Staff are wonderful although owners are noticeable by there absence and failure to correspond.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.139)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.139) out of 10 for Valley View & Penshaw House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.430 for Valley View & Penshaw House is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.43

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.709 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Valley View & Penshaw House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.909

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
