Considering the age of the care home there are problems with lifts, and plumbing i.e. not always hot water for showers, etc but everyone does their best to deal with these occasional problems as they arise!

My dad was on palliative care over the summer and although it was a sad and stressful time, the staff at Ryhope Manor Care Home made it a very positive experience. From domestic staff to carers, from nurses and kitchen staff to management, my dad was treated as an individual with respect and dignity
and loving care. We knew he was in good hands when we left his bedside.

All staff are very caring. My uncle is very happy here. If it wasn't for the love and care given here, my uncle would not be with us today.

Our father was in Ryhope Manor for 6 months and settled into this ‘home from home’.
Small (which we wanted), but with a good feel from the minute we walked through the door. He had a lovely large, light room, with plenty of space for his personal effects. The staff are fabulous and looked after him
with care, attention, dignity and respect, but also shared his sense of humour. They knew all his likes and dislikes and catered to his every need. Staff were observant with regard to his wellbeing and monitored him closely. Very person-centred.
The manager knows all the residents and their families and kept us fully informed of his progress. She did not see her responsibilities to be just as a manager, but saw her staff and residents as ‘extended family’.
The most impressive piece of management was with the pandemic, her tenacity and the commitment of the staff. She allowed window visits when able to help the mental health of all.
I would recommend this home to anyone unreservedly.

It is rare to find so many people in one place who are not only dedicated to the care of our loved ones at a time when they need it most, but also display such consideration and thoughtfulness with those of us who need support at the saddest time of all.

On our visit to Ryhope Manor, we had an overwhelming feeling of friendliness and a homely feeling. Mother has settled in very well and we, as a family, are happy to see her happy.

My mother in law went into care at very short notice and we were really grateful to them. They have shown nothing but care and compassion to her since her being there.

Both my parents stayed at Manor Care Home for a weeks respite. I could not speak any more highly of the place. The home is a relaxing old building with beautiful views of the garden. The care they received was so good. All the staff are very friendly and cared for their every need. The food also is
excellent, unlike other experiences they have had in other care homes.

I would definitely be using Ryhope Manor Care Home again for my parents when they need respite care. I would also highly recommend the place for anyone looking for care.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.603)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.603) out of 10 for Ryhope Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.583 for Ryhope Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (32 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.583

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.02 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ryhope Manor Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.2 = 0.645

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
