My husband moved here in January from another care home. The difference in him has been amazing - he is much happier, alert and enjoying all the activities on offer (something sadly lacking at his previous home).
All staff from management to carers, domestic staff and cooks are friendly, approachable
and professional. There is a great camaraderie between the staff. The food is excellent and plentiful. Activities are many and varied and well thought out and planned. The home is kept spotless.
It has given me peace of mind knowing that he is so well cared for and I would wholeheartedly recommend the home.

Springfield Care Home is an immaculately clean and well-decorated home. All staff and management are extremely helpful, and friendly and are willing to go the extra mile to help both residents and family members. A lovely caring environment with an abundance of activities for loved ones to join with.
So much planning thought and preparation are put into these activities and they are delivered with care and compassion is second to none. It is a joy to see via social media loved ones participating in activities! Overall a fantastic, pleasant, caring, friendly and happy home.

I cannot praise the care home highly enough. Without the care, love and devotion to my mother, she would not be with us. Nothing is too much bother, regardless of the time of day or night, and the manager of the home and her deputy know the names of all her residents and family members, which is not
always the case.
One of my best decisions for my mam.

Reply from Shirley Delap, Registered Manager at Springfield Care Home

Thank you for the lovely words about the team at Springfield, the team are highly motivated to give person-centred care to your mam. We all feel that it was an amazing decision you made to place your mam at Springfield, and we are the lucky ones to care for your mam. Thank You so much for the support you give to all our team.

We find every aspect of Springfield House Care home outstanding. We have observed staff supporting and caring for residents in a genuine way who have no visitors present. All of the team are approachable, pleasant and hardworking. As it stands, we have ticked every box excellent and are pleased to have
this opportunity to express this.

My sister has lived at Springfield Care Home for over 2 years now. The team there have provided an excellent, sincerely caring home for her. It is such a well-managed home with the highest of standards and a wonderful ethos, which permeates down from management to every member of staff.
The food is
very good, home-made fayre and offerings at tea breaks are varied and plentiful. The snack trays distributed around the home are such a lovely touch for the residents. The rooms, with en-suite are very well kept and regularly updated.
We have been amazed at the number and variety of activities on offer. Another plus are the many themed days (and meals) on special occasions.
All management and staff are very approachable, readily available, always supportive and very professional.
We have absolute peace of mind, knowing my sister is having the very best of care from an amazing team.

Equipment to meet care needs wasn't available on arrival despite manager having carried out a care needs assessment. No raised toilet seat /frame and the chair in the room was too low/narrow. Senior staff were using an assessment which was out of date re continence, transfers and mobility.
Concerns
raised by family on arrival, by telephone later that day and the following day were met with an uncaring attitude and no effective action.
Staff weren't walking the person and they were unable to use the toilet despite information provided by family leading to distress due to incontinence and regression of mobility.
Referral to therapy re mobility and podiatry was delayed by 2 weeks despite manager stating they would refer shortly after admission.
Prior to signing family queried a clause in the contract. Management terminated the residency with immediate effect despite receipt of £8000.
Management repeatedly threatened family with legal /police action after they contacted company directors to update them and also pressured family to remove the resident.
Feedback sent to the CQC including copies of emails and contract as evidence.

Reply from Ambrish Vyas, Director at Springfield Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, it is important to mention that Springfield was sold long after the placement had ended and this review has no relevance to the current practices, culture and ethics of the new provider; that being said, we are sorry that you felt services at Springfield didn’t meet your expectations. There are also many inaccuracies in your review:
The team were pressurised by yourself to accept this placement based on recommendations and our reputation and the assessment that was used for admission was that of the hospital. The equipment mentioned that belonged to the resident was in your possession and withheld by yourselves and the home replaced it within 24 hours at their cost.
All concerns raised were addressed immediately on the phone and followed up in lengthy email correspondence.
Our care records and testimony from the care team reflect a very different picture than the one you have portrayed. Referrals to the occupational therapy team, the physiotherapy team and the GP were made immediately and the resident was seen in good time.
Management made no threats to any family member of the resident and it is a shame such accusations are made against members of the team that have dedicated their lives to providing excellent care.
By all accounts the resident received excellent care at Springfield, this evidence was provided to the commissioners and the regulators who also agreed there was no merit to these accusations. This short placement unfortunately ended due to a breakdown of communication as such we were advised to terminate the placement. As a gesture of goodwill transport and escort was provided by the home to the resident’s next placement.

My mam was placed in the care home initially in May for respite, her condition deteriorated very quickly during the pandemic, and because she was so well cared for during this week, we felt that this would be the best place for her on a long term basis. The home is lovely and clean. The rooms are a
good size to enable the residents to make them homely. The staff are fantastic with the residents, they have lots of social activities and a Facebook page for families to see their loved ones.

My mother-in-law came to Springfield from a rehabilitation facility to which she was admitted after a short stay in the hospital, having previously lived in her own home. She has found the transition quite difficult, but the friendliness and compassion of staff have won her round. When we visited last
week, after a negative Covid test, it was so wonderful to be able to be with her in her room, to meet the welcoming staff and to experience the attractive surroundings. Many thanks to all concerned and especially the Manager and another member of staff who has guided us through the whole process.

I’ve been visiting for the last few years, and last March when visiting had to stop due to the pandemic, I was obviously really upset, but the regular updates and FaceTime calls made me still feel connected and really involved. The staff have all been lovely and so kind. The regular live music streaming
events have also kept me entertained over the long months of isolation. More recently, being able to come back to the homes visiting area, and be tested and handed a warm drink on arrival, is just amazing!

Reply from Philip Carey, Managing Director at Springfield Care Home

Dear Elsie, on behalf of everyone here, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, we are all so very pleased to see you coming back in person and using our Covid secure visiting booth. Personal visits and interaction are such an important part of our overall service, and we are doing everything possible with routine LFT Covid screening in our dedicated external test centre, for all visitors, to make your visits as safe and welcoming as possible in these challenging times. We all very much look forward to seeing you again soon.

This home has provided excellent care for many years and all staff care deeply about all in their care. The communication during this awful time has been impeccable. This has been both stressful for staff and residents as they have had limited communication with families, and the introduction into the
relative viewing pod is amazing. The residents are always happy and exceptionally well cared for. All nutritional needs are catered for and they are always implementing new ideas to ensure residents maintain good hydration. During the pandemic, staff have entertained the residents and many live shows have taken place, come rain or shine. It is so nice the residents smiling and I would have gladly, have Springfield house care for me and my family if ever we require it. Would definitely recommend to anyone who requires care in the future. Thank you Springfield House.

Reply from Phil Carey, Managing Director at Springfield Care Home

Dear Nicola, from everyone here at Springfield House thank you for your lovely comments and continued support and from all of us to you, knowing that you are working in ICU and facing many daily personal and professional challenges, on behalf of us all a huge thank you. We all always look forward to seeing you and look forward to the day when we can welcome you and all of our friends and families safely back into our home.

My father was only at the home a short while but contacted Covid and died. We were not told that the Home had Covid issues. He was extremely unhappy during his stay there and died alone during the night despite needing constant care. The police told us of the death. When he died no one from the home
contacted us for 6 days and when asked by the undertakers where the body was we were unable to tell him. We asked for two items of my father to be kept for us to collect - a mobile phone and a family photo album which was very precious. When we arrived we were told that these items could not be found and after a lengthy search, they were deemed to be lost. My father kept his financial information on his mobile phone and so the funds in his account could not be accessed to pay his outstanding bills and funeral costs. The photo album contained all our memories of my dad. A total mess from start to finish and I would urge anyone thinking of sending a loved one here to think again.

Reply from P Carey, Managing Director at Springfield Care Home

We are all extremely sorry for your loss, completely understand that you are currently grieving, our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time. We are all so sorry that our Management team could not assist you in ‘obtaining access to your late Fathers bank accounts’, without power of attorney or legal authority, or to subsequently locate his broken phone ‘to enable you to access his personal passwords.’ As we repeatedly advised, you should inform your late father’s bankers of his death and not attempt to access his accounts without the required legal authority (notifications to financial establishments). We do not understand why you have chosen to write such lies & unfounded negative comments, e.g. It was an NHS Paramedic that contacted yourself, not the Police. To score our services like this when you have never visited, witnessed, or met any of the dedicated 52 employees who have all worked selflessly throughout a Global crisis to provide & maintain outstanding award-winning levels of care and service. A Team who has quite unquestionably gone above and beyond throughout these unprecedented Global times.

I'd like to thank the staff at Springfield for their dedication and care shown to my Aunt and everyone else during 2020. Although we haven't been able to visit directly the visiting booth is a most welcome addition and the regular photographs, video and calls have kept the family fully informed (and
entertained) throughout the year. My Aunt has made many new friends and looks so well it's so heartwarming to know that she is surrounded by such lovely caring people. Happy New Year.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.304)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.304) out of 10 for Springfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.704 for Springfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (96 Excellents x 5) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.704

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Springfield Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.8

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
