My mother-in-law has resided in Thorncliffe House now for just over 2 years. Myself and my wife have always found the place clean and tidy. The staff have always been very attentive to the care and well-being of my mother-in-law, and have been helpful in anything that we have requested. They seem to
be on the ball in seeking any medical treatment that is needed. They do provide various types of entertainment and trips out. It is always a concern putting a person into a care home, but we have been very happy with the service and care provided.

My dad is a resident of this lovely nursing home. I don't live locally but when I come to visit, the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The home itself is beautifully decorated and clean, my dad's room is full of personal photos and all the medical equipment he needs. The staff are really kind and
caring treating him as if he were family and despite his frailty he looks really happy there. I work in care myself and know how important it is to have care and patience and it is well practised in this lovely place. Thank you everyone for your wonderful work.

My mother has been a resident in Thorncliffe House since December 2022 as she is severely sight impaired and has mild dementia. She has said on a regular basis when visited that the staff are all very friendly and helpful and that the food is good and, after initially worrying that she wouldn't settle,
she seems happy with her life. I usually have a chat with the carer when I arrive as to how she has been and they always seem well informed about her situation. She has required two visits to A and E recently and on both occasions we were immediately informed by management and she was accompanied by a carer to stay with her. She also suffered two TIA's on separate occasions when I was there and the response from the staff was instant and very professional. It is so reassuring to know that she is being looked after so well. The place is always clean and warm and I love the way that the entire staff, not just the carers, interact with Mam.

My father has been a resident for 3+ years suffers with dementia and has medical needs. All the staff treat him with patience, dignity and care - his medical needs are put in place immediately as required -medication, nurse visits, hospital visits etc.
Nobody wants a member of their family to end up
in a nursing home, but we know that he is getting 24/7 professional care which he now needs and is very well looked after. The home manager and all the staff keep us informed of any concerns they have and any changes in him.
All the staff are polite and friendly - we visit on a regular basis and are made very welcome every time we visit - nothing is a problem.
Thorncliffe House is clean, warm, always bright and welcoming and the food they serve is freshly home-cooked.
My father is well looked after and seems happy, a very homely atmosphere all year round.

My mam was in Thorncliffe from May 2019 to April 2022, and me and my family could not talk higher of the way she was looked after, and now the staff are taking the same great care of my aunt. The manageress has always been great, forthcoming with information and advice; and her staff represent her brilliantly,
all are friendly and helpful. The biggest compliment I can give is that Thorncliffe has a homely atmosphere from the moment you enter, nothing feels sterile or mechanical, there's genuine warmth and friendliness that goes with the excellent professional caring.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.636)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.636) out of 10 for Thorncliffe House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.736 for Thorncliffe House is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.736

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thorncliffe House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
