Elwick Grange offers residential and dementia care from a pleasant setting close to the centre of Hartlepool. The modern, purpose-built care home has a highly qualified team that provides the very best standards of care.

Team members receive the latest dementia training and offer one-to-one sessions with residents that have proven to be effective in helping them to retain a sense of self-esteem and independence. At Elwick Grange, residents are encouraged to live as independently as possible. The home has access to shops and a local library, and regular trips are made to nearby attractions in its minibus.

My mother moved in for two weeks of respite care in May. The care and attention prior to her move was excellent. The staff were caring and careful to address all her concerns in a compassionate but clear way. While there, I saw countless acts by staff, which made it clear they loved the residents in
a way far beyond paid-for care. Each was treated as an individual, and their unique needs were being met. Sadly my mother's condition deteriorated - nothing to do with the home - but the staff were quick to alert us and arrange emergency treatment. They spotted her decline quickly and acted brilliantly. I have already recommended this home to others and will continue to do so.

My mam really enjoys all sorts of activities that they do and just recently they held a 'summer festival', which she really enjoyed. Her two sons turned up and spent some quality time with her. It is really a great care home and would recommend to family friends.

My mam has been a resident at Elwick Grange since the 6th of April 2023. As you can imagine it's always a difficult decision to move a loved one into care. I met with the manager of Elwick Grange who is absolutely fantastic and she put my mind at rest as to the level of engagement and care that the
staff would offer. The staff go above and beyond to make my mam comfortable and happy within the surroundings. I am just letting you know the staff offer a fine range of activities to keep residents engaged. Easter was particularly impressive. The care home nurse is dealing with any medical issues that my mam has, liaising with doctors and in turn, communicating this back to the family. In short, I find Elwich Grange excellent!

No longer able to cope at home, my mum moved to Elwick Grange. She was made very welcome by the lovely, caring staff and settled well. Unfortunately, after a week she took ill and end of life care was required. The care and dedication shown to not only my mum, but also my sister and I was incredible.
Nothing was too much trouble to both carers and management. As a family, we will be forever grateful for the support they provided. Simply the best.

Really pleased with the care from the staff at Elwick Grange. I've seen a big improvement in my mum's short stay. All the staff are friendly, there's a lively ambience between the fellow residents. I can't thank the staff enough for their care and love towards my mum.

After my aunt came to live at Elwick Grange, she was very frail. I had no hesitation in requesting that my man who has vascular dementia also came to live here. Both need different kinds of care but both are so happy and well cared for. It's care that I couldn't give at home. Thank you.

My dad moved into Elwich Grange at the end of October 2022 shortly after my mom passed away. He had Dementia and we knew we would have to choose a care home carefully to meet his needs and personality. Thankfully my mom was able to help me choose and loved Elwick Grange home after visiting. It was a
stressful l and emotional time for us and felt like losing both parents. Dad settling and getting on so well with staff and residents eased the pain and upset. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for caring for dad so well.

I am very grateful to all of the staff for taking care of my mum. They all went above and beyond what was expected of them. It has been a frightening time but knowing Mum was in such good hands really helped our family. The person who was hired to entertain the residents i.e. knitting, bingo etc. was
exceptional. When we couldn't visit she rang and kept us up to date with what was happening, when we were able to visit etc.

Wendy Winspear

Job Title: Home Manager

I’ve worked for Care UK for 15 years now. I’d been working in retail, but a family member worked here at the time and told me how good the home was, from the management down, and how well the team got to know residents and their families. It sounded like a place I wanted to be a part of.


I started as a domestic assistant and have worked my way up the ranks, doing all the training I could, including Care UK’s special training aimed at home managers of the future. It took confidence to put myself forward to be the Home Manager, but I’m so happy I did because I absolutely love my job.


My walkarounds are some of my favourite times of the day when I get to speak to residents and families. We have a brilliant team at Elwick Grange and the best thing about working here is being able to play a part in providing quality care to residents and enabling them to live happy, fulfilling lives.


Any spare time I have I like to spend with my husband, family and friends. I enjoy travelling to new places for days out or weekends away. I also enjoy reading, and I do try to keep fit.
