The staff at Elwick Grange Care Home really do care. There is a lot of thought to how to engage residents and enrich their lives. My uncle's room is always clean and this home always smells clean. I am kept up to date with anything regarding my uncle's care.

My mam moved into the care home after being in hospital. Due to mam's Dementia getting worse and having quite a few falls she needed 24-hour care. This is an upsetting time for the family as we have always managed to look after mam ourselves. The staff and manager could not have done more to make mam's
transition go as smoothly as possible. The staff are caring and thoughtful and have made mam feel welcome and are helping her to readjust to her new surroundings.

I would certainly like to thank all staff who are making my mother's stay in the Care Home manageable during the covid pandemic. My mother is a very special lady and is receiving very special care from management and staff. I cannot thank the team enough for the love and dedication they are showing
to my mother, for this I will be eternally grateful. I would have no hesitation in recommending her care home to anyone who has to consider more long-term care for their loved one.

My mother moved into the home in September 2021 and there have been various restrictions/lockdowns throughout. My contact at the home has always kept me informed of the latest guidelines and has worked tirelessly to ensure I have had contact with my mother even arranging Facetime calls. Mum is settled,
happy, and receives the best of care (she has even put weight on since arriving) a real testament to the kitchen and regular snacks that are provided. This home is well maintained and the staff are great. I honestly cannot fault it in any way.

My mother is very pleased with her care plan. She is very well looked after by the very caring staff. Her room is very cosy and warm, and she has made some friends. She has participated in several social events eg, seaside day at the care home, Bonfire night, which she enjoyed. Her food is very good.
We can also visit her regularly with ease.

My mum needed respite care following an operation and stay in hospital. The manager was extremely helpful in sorting the transfer to the home as we were going on holiday. Everything needed to be sorted quickly. The care was excellent and whilst no one ever wants to go into care it enabled mam to get
some confidence back and she is now safely back at home. Activities were many and varied (even though she wouldn't join in) Overall many thanks - would use again.

As a family, we found it difficult with the thought our mother/grandmother needed more help than we as a family could give. We visited a few care homes and loved Elwick Grange the moment we walked through the door. A member of staff met us and put our minds at ease, this is the place we thought she

I am very happy with Elwick Grange Care Home. The staff are excellent and provide care with respect and maintain the dignity of the residents at all times. The home is well maintained and all the staff are approachable at all times. Any minor problems are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Individual
rooms are a good size and ensuite facilities provided communal space is well decorated with lovely furniture and pictures etc. The meals and snacks are good quality and plentiful.

Wendy Winspear

Job Title: Home Manager

I’ve worked for Care UK for 15 years now. I’d been working in retail, but a family member worked here at the time and told me how good the home was, from the management down, and how well the team got to know residents and their families. It sounded like a place I wanted to be a part of.


I started as a domestic assistant and have worked my way up the ranks, doing all the training I could, including Care UK’s special training aimed at home managers of the future. It took confidence to put myself forward to be the Home Manager, but I’m so happy I did because I absolutely love my job.


My walkarounds are some of my favourite times of the day when I get to speak to residents and families. We have a brilliant team at Elwick Grange and the best thing about working here is being able to play a part in providing quality care to residents and enabling them to live happy, fulfilling lives.


Any spare time I have I like to spend with my husband, family and friends. I enjoy travelling to new places for days out or weekends away. I also enjoy reading, and I do try to keep fit.
