Nunthorpe Oaks is a beautiful home which has recently undergone a stunning refurbishment. With a warm family feel the moment you walk through the door, it feels like home from home.

Providing residential care, the team also offers respite care breaks, which are ideal for carers looking after loved ones, who would like to plan a short break themselves.   

There are spacious lounges and a garden room, as well as a new bistro-style café area. And there’s a hair salon and nail bar, for regular appointments with the mobile hairdresser, plus pampering sessions with facials, manicures and hand massages.

The gardens are beautiful and are the perfect spot to relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time. Nunthorpe Oaks also has a private family and friends Facebook group, where families can see what their loved ones have been enjoying doing, even if they can’t be there in person.

The residents enjoy so many activities, with music from local choirs and musical entertainers to karaoke. The home even has its own choir. There are regular gentle exercise sessions, crafts, knit and knatter, baking and cocktail evenings, as well as trips to local parks, shopping and garden centres and coffee shops.

In the dining rooms, the residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals prepared by the chef, who was proud to be crowned Best Performing Chef for the entire region at Sanctuary Care’s annual Chefs’ Conference (2023). From roast dinners with all the trimmings, to fish and chip Fridays and lighter bites like home-made soups. And there is home-baking every day for afternoon tea, with the chef’s cheese scones and cakes always going down a treat.

The local community are embraced into life at Nunthorpe Oaks, with regular church services and hymns in the home to visits from local school children.

I hope you don't mind that this is rhyme, it's what I have now done for a while. I can now safely say my review is ok and hope it makes you smile. The head of the workforce and deputy to are always attentive to the staff. The carers are also second to none, they are dutiful, helpful and laugh. Even
the cleaners that come in each morn are willing to do what they must. By the time we arrive it's all spic and span and we know what they've done we entrust.

I am writing this review having just returned from visiting my mother in Nunthorpe Oaks, where a great time was had by all residents, staff and visitors. A 'dress as the decade you were born in' day had been arranged, complete with a singer and people in fancy dress. A brilliant atmosphere was created.
For anyone who finds the idea of care homes 'depressing', you really need to visit. The staff here don't just care for the residents, they care about them. A team of activity organisers ensure that residents are engaged at a level they can access, as well as meeting their physical needs. Brilliant!

The home is set out so that it feels like our own home. The management do a brilliant job, keep things moving and getting things done. The staff are caring and hard working and will go the extra mile for you. This applies all across the board. My health has improved greatly since coming into the home.

This care home is a very great credit to its manager and all her staff. The manager and all her staff are very resident-orientated with all their thinking. It is a pleasure to go and see everyone happy, with clean rooms and excellent food. Visitors are treated like one of the Oaks family.

My mother-in-law has been a resident since May 2022 and the care she has received has been excellent from the manager to care workers and kitchen staff, they all made her feel so welcome as well as ourselves. The entertainment team are excellent and never fails to keep the residents entertained at all
times. I cannot praise the team enough for all their hard work and care is definitely their number one priority. Well done to the Nunthorpe Oaks Team, you are simply the best!

In general, the home is lovely. Staff are very friendly, rooms are welcoming, food is of a very high standard and the activities team is amazing.
I do feel improvements could be made on the personal care front, e.g. nails (both hands and feet), hair (i.e. brushing and styling, especially after a shower)
and generally the attention to detail over and above the basic care. Note: I understand staff can't cut toenails but keeping an eye on when they need doing is important.

Having been put in the situation of finding a home for my aunt after becoming unable to live at home and not knowing what I was looking for I came across Nunthorpe Oaks after many many hours searching reviews on many many homes. I contacted Sanctuary and they put me in touch with the deputy manager.
From seeing the home on the website and speaking to the deputy manager I immediately knew this was the place for my aunt. The home, gardens, food and activities are just spot on. The care my aunt receives is unbelievable, kind, compassionate, professional and dignified in all areas. The communication from all the staff is fantastic as I haven't a clue if what I was/am doing is right. Having spent a few months in emergency care to moving in here it's like going from a 1* to a 5* hotel! My aunt's first response to her lovely room was "Oh my god is this my room, it's just beautiful (tears) and I could have a disco in the middle of it!"
I cannot say thank you enough times to everyone!

We have recommended this home to a friend whose father needs respite. We love
it. One of the best new additions to the team is a new Activities Coordinator who goes above and beyond to keep residents active and entertained, ably assisted by the other Activities Coordinator. We are looking forward to
the beach day, there seems to be so much more going on. Our mum has dementia and is 90 she did the exercise class with the Activities Coordinator this week. We are so grateful.

Very pleasant and helpful staff. Good food and a nice room although the bathroom is maybe a little small in regards to people with mobility issues and staff getting in as well etc. A call button near the chair as well as on the wall may help as well. Overall though, very good.

Our residents at Nunthorpe Oaks come first. I love interacting with them and supporting them to feel happy and fulfilled. We have so many lovely activities going on to enrich their lives. I am deeply passionate about involving the local community in life in the home, keeping those community connections alive for our residents to enjoy.
