Wellburn House Care Home is in Stockton-on-Tees, not far from the Durham Heritage Coast and the North Yorkshire coast. The home provides dementia and residential care.

The staff at Wellburn House pride themselves on their caring and empathetic attitude, which enables them to build close relationships with residents, their families, carers and friends.

The focus is very much on treating all residents as individuals and affording them the respect and dignity they deserve. There is also a strong emphasis on empowering the residents, encouraging them to remain as mentally and physically active as possible.

The staff at Wellburn House see themselves, not just as members of a team but rather as part of an extended family, which includes residents, families, visitors, healthcare professionals, and many groups and organisations in the local community.

The home has a regular residents and relatives newsletter to help keep everyone in touch with events and also helping to cement the feeling of being part of the Wellburn family.

My stay in Wellburn House was a very positive experience. The staff are extremely caring, helpful and professional at all times. The staff also supported my wife and niece during what was a trying time for us.

As Mam's dementia progressed, we needed secure care for her. Wellburn was chosen quickly and it has turned out to be excellent. The care, kindness and love shown by the staff has been second-to-none. My sister and I both live at some distance, but communication has been thorough and timely. When it
came to the end, their care was faultless and their affection for our old lady was genuine and touching.

My mam required an emergency placement and Wellburn House was recommended. I am pleased I listened, the home is very friendly, the staff can not do enough and the manager is so helpful and friendly, no wonder she won an award. My aunt was placed at Wellburn House as her dementia had started to take over her ability to live alone. I didn't expect the warmth I received from the staff, they had made a huge difference to my aunt's life and I can happily say that I am free from worry as I live 300 miles away thank you for all

My aunt went in (she has dementia) on 5/1/20 for two weeks respite. She was left unchanged or washed, in her soiled pad until Wednesday 8/1/20, when I had to ask her PA to attend and change her. I did raise my concerns on Tuesday night whilst visiting, the two women sat in the office stated they would
sort it, but unfortunately, it must have slipped their mind! Anyways, the two weeks respite is not happening as I decided she will be better looked after by us. The people working in there didn't seem to grasp that Dementia can affect a person's decisions, ie: would you like to get changed? No, my aunt replies, so it's ok to leave her soiled? They must have thought so, as this is exactly what happened. I spoke to the manager who simply wouldn't have it, stating all staff were dementia aware, but not as far as I could see, or they wouldn't have left a defenceless 89-year-old lady sat in soiled pads for four days!

They showed so much care and compassion for my aunt and made us feel so welcome. As soon as you walk through the doors the atmosphere is so friendly and homely,

I have been to Wellburn House many times to visit my friend with my daughter and found it to be a very pleasant, happy house. The staff are most helpful and make you welcome, and the care - nothing is ever a problem.


I would retire there myself if needs be, nothing but praise.

My aunt has been in Wellburn House for an assessment for the past 4 weeks. She enjoyed her stay very much. She has been exceptionally well cared for in every aspect. All the staff have been lovely with her and she says she will go back to Wellburn House for "a holiday". I can't thank the staff enough

The staff are very caring but I do feel they are understaffed as I have had instances when I have visited before lunch and my mother wasn't dressed. She had had her breakfast but was still in her pyjamas at 11:30 am. Some residents feel a bit bored but they have a new activities lady so this should
now improve.

Sadly our mother has passed away (9th June 2018). We would not recommend this care home to anybody. The staff are unapproachable and not at all friendly.


My mother slept in her day clothes all night, left in her old poo for hours on end.


Mixed up her medication. The ten days my mother was in the

care home were the worst days of her life. When we moved her to another home it was lovely and clean and most caring.

My aunt was a resident in Welburn house from 23rd april 2013 until unfortunately on the 6th January 2016 she suddenly became very ill, I was informed immediately and a doctor was called, when I got there it was obvious she was really ill. As I visited daily I was shocked at how quickly she had deteriorated,
the staff responded very quickly to get medical attention but unfortunately it resulted in my aunt being hospitalised for 10 weeks, after which she required nursing care so was unable to return to Welburn, this was decided by social worker and hospital staff. Luckily my aunt no longer needs nursing care as she is much better and I would be extremely happy for her to return to Welburn house which this decision was agreed by the nursing home social workers and myself. I feel my aunt would benefit a great deal by returning to familiar staff and surroundings..

My Aunty was in the care home for five years and was always extremely well cared for.
All staff are lovely and caring and I was very impressed with the excellent attention given to her when she was dying from Alzheimers disease.
She had been very challenging to look after the last two years as was
doubly incontinent, couldn't walk and had to have her food cut up minutely and be fed by staff, but they patiently did all this for her in a very caring way.
She used to enjoy the events at the home put on for the residents, and the sing songs before she was too ill to attend.
I was so happy with her treatment and care I didn't hesitate to recommend the home for my father-in-law, and he is in there now receiving excellent care, although he is seriously ill at the moment.
Would like to thank all the staff for the wonderful care they've given to my relatives over the years!
