Choosing a care facility for a loved one is not an easy task and is an emotional roller coaster ride. From stepping through the door for the very first time, I felt Elmsfield House was somewhere that my partner would be well cared for. He became a resident in September 2024 and the staff have supported
us through the difficult transitional stage. He has now settled in to the routine of the home and I can relax in the knowledge that he is receiving the best care from both the nurses and the care staff. My feeling is that the staff support not only my partner but me as well.
Communication between the staff on all levels and family members is excellent and the friendly greeting received on arrival at any visit is greatly valued.

My father has been in Elmsfield House for just over 6 weeks now and at first I was worried Dad would not settle but how wrong was I. He has engaged in all aspects of the home. He eats all his meals with the other residents in the dining room. Has conversation with the other residents and joins in in
all the activities that the home has to offer which is every day. The staff are lovely, kind and very caring. The whole place is warm clean and modern. I could not be more happy.

When my mother went into Elmsfield House after several months of being in the hospital, where she had deteriorated badly losing mobility, and confidence and becoming more and more confused. After just three months of care at Elmsfield she is looking and acting like her old self, gaining confidence every
day and joining in all the regular activities. The staff are so kind, patient and caring. They have time to give the attention that the residents need. Elmsfield house has taken a massive weight off our shoulders as well given my mum a new lease of life. Elmsfield isn't just a care home, it's her home now and she loves it.

My Mum has been in Elmsfield House since her debilitating stroke last year and she has been well looked after by the kind and attentive staff. I have been impressed by the forward-thinking of the care home team, who have recently reviewed the food menu to cater for Mum's coeliac requirements and preferences.
With Mum being bed-bound most of the time, they have also instigated regular contact with her by a member of staff in between meal times which is improving her cognition and mental well-being. So I would like to thank the staff and management of Elmsfield House for their good and progressive work.

My mum came to Elmsfield House after receiving treatment in the local hospice. Even though she is still receiving palliative care the staff have encouraged her with walking again and also to participate in daily activities. Elmsfield House is clean and tidy and very homely. The garden is beautiful,
which we all enjoy very much. The staff are kind and caring, they always make us feel welcome. I would definitely recommend Elmsfield House.

As a power of attorney, it has been important to find somewhere that we could feel that our friend would have chosen for herself. Elmsfield House has a very kind, caring, attentive and family-orientated atmosphere. Nothing is too much trouble. They fit in with her needs, not the other way round. The
standard of nursing care is excellent (I am a retired nurse). Our friend has commented that 'people are always smiling here'.

Reply from Emma Dunkley, Manager at Elmsfield House

Thank you for your kind words. We have some truly amazing staff at Elmsfield House and they always go above and beyond, it is nice for this to be recognised by a fellow professional. It is a privilege to care for your friend and I shall pass your kind words on to the team.

My mum moved into Elmsfield House in March 2020, just as the pandemic hit. I was obviously worried during this lockdown period, as I didn't know the home or any of the staff. No need to worry though, as all was excellent. So, three years and three months later Mum is still being cared for here. She
receives first-class care from first-class staff. All staff are so welcoming and greet you with a smile. Elmsfield House has a real family feel and doesn't feel like a traditional care home, but more like a big farm house with a large family. I've always been made to feel welcome and part of it this 'family'. The only reason for not giving a full five stars is Mum's room needs upgrading, but management are aware and are sorting another room for Mum and are going to be upgrading them all. I would certainly recommend this care home. Huge thank you to all at Elmsfield House (management, carers, kitchen staff, cleaning staff, nurses and office staff) for looking after Mum and keeping her safe.

Reply from Emma Dunkley, Manager at Elmsfield House

Thank you so much for your kind words, we absolutely love your mum (and you of course)! As you, quite rightly, said we are in the middle of renovating the older rooms so they match the standard of the rest of the home. We are constantly improving things and investing in the home to ensure that the environment is as welcoming as it can be for everyone.

I have been visiting my granddad in Elmsfield House for a while now. Everyone at Elmsfield have been amazing with him. The staff are friendly, welcoming and cannot do enough for him, or us. They really do go above and beyond. The home is clean, welcoming and really does feel like 'home'. Their new garden
is amazing and I am looking forward to spending time out there with my granddad this summer; he used to love gardening when he was able to. I cannot recommend the home highly enough.

My mum is staying here. The staff are really great with the residents and my mum can be difficult if she’s that way out. There are various activities for the residents to enjoy, as well as a lovely garden to sit in and look at.

The support, kindness and care shown to my husband and myself have been excellent by everyone at Elmsfield. They provide an "at home" environment and treat him with dignity under difficult circumstances for him. I am always made very welcome when visiting. They are also there for myself and my son to
answer any questions and keep us up to date with his health.

My aunt is receiving nursing care due to her condition worsening. As she has deteriorated the staff have adjusted her care according.
They have daily activities which she is encouraged to participate in. I get regular updates from the nursing staff and caregivers.
Her clothes are always clean as
is her room and bedding, which is very important to me.
There has been a lot of updating done to the home. Elmsfield House is ahead of the game. An air filter system was put in just before Covid 19, invaluable in saving lives. All staff have radio contact bringing more safety to both residents and staff. All staff are helpful and kind taking pride in the care given. Meals always looked lovely and nutritious. I would recommend Elmsfield House to friends.

My mother was admitted to Elmsfield from hospital due to coronavirus, a very difficult situation for us but the staff have been amazing by keeping us in touch with her. My Mam is very well cared for and is obviously happy there, which is a great relief to us all. The staff have worked hard to enable
us to maintain visits and all the staff have been professional, courteous and caring when we have been there. Thank you Elmsfield House.

Everything about Elmsfield House says CARE and LOVE. The staff at this establishment are amazing, friendly and helpful. It is run and managed by the most caring owner, who I know without a shadow of a doubt would use the services of this home for the care of his own parents - that says something.
The
care that the staff give to the residents here is second to none - it is indeed a CARE home.
Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the residents and their visitors alike and it is obvious that a large amount of money has been spent upgrading essential equipment as required by the staff in order for the elderly in their care to have the best available facilities in order to assist their needs.
I was very impressed by the care shown here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others. In fact, I have already done so!

Modern accommodation in a quiet countryside setting. We have seen evidence of continuing improvements around the house, such as a lift being installed now and the adaption of the Gold Standards Framework. The nursing staff seems knowledgeable and competent and the other staff caring and gentle. Mother
seems settled and happy here and has even been persuaded to join in the activities. All in all a good choice for her remaining years. Thank you.

Lovely atmosphere, nothing too much trouble for the staff or management. Kind and considerate with clients. Unfortunately, my mother was only there at the end of her life but the care was excellent.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.737)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.737) out of 10 for Elmsfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.837 for Elmsfield House is calculated as follows: ( (88 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 104 Ratings = 4.837

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elmsfield House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
