St. George’s is a high quality home located in the centre of of Millom which exudes peace and tranquillity, whilst being immediately and conveniently adjacent to the town centre.

The rooms are tastefully decorated to a high standard, with en-suite facilities. The home actively encourage residents to personalise their rooms with photographs, ornaments and furniture to create a familiar environment.

Offering an extensive range of specialist equipment to cater for particular needs and occupational therapists are available as required. Activities and entertainment are an important part of life at the home. A hairdresser visits the home regularly for any resident who wishes to use the service. They have a programme of daily activities which includes: baking, hand massages and manicures, quizzes, games and much, much more.

The home pride themselves on a person-centred programme of care which will help to build upon your strengths and wishes to improve your quality of life and help you enjoy the community environment they work so hard to create and maintain.

My mother has spent almost four weeks at St George's having respite care. From the first contact with St George's, I could tell that this was a very welcoming and professional organisation. My mother was concerned about having respite care but from the first moment we arrived she was made to feel very
welcome and there was a warm, friendly, caring atmosphere throughout her stay. Mum soon settled and every member of staff was helpful giving her excellent attention, along with tasty food from beginning to end. She had a very comfortable room with a television and wash hand basin next to the bathroom. I would have no hesitation in recommending St George's for the care my mother received and also the support which was given to the family by the St George's team.

Gemma Fretter

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2016

Gemma has a wide range of experience and knowledge from her 18 years in the care sector, previously working with issues such as mental health, Korsakoffs, physically frail, younger adults and special care needs.


Her previous ambition of becoming a nurse set her on her career in care and fell in love with the elderly. She worked from the age of 18 as a Health Care Assistant and was quickly promoted to Senior Health Care Assistant until she was promoted again to Deputy Manager. Stepping up to Acting Manager early in 2023 she has been a significant support not only to the residents and family members but also to the staff. Making continuous improvements within the home she constantly goes above and beyond for everyone.
