Situated just outside Cockermouth, Hames Hall is a Victorian country mansion that has been skilfully renovated to provide a suitable care environment for older people.

The home has also established strong links with the local community including a recent initiative that has allowed a prominent Cockermouth gardening group to voluntarily restore the fine walled Victorian kitchen garden. A network of disabled walkways and raised flowerbeds have allowed residents of the home and other visitors, ready access to all parts of the impressive garden which featured as part of the National Gardens Scheme open day programme in 2014.

Residents enjoy a spacious and comfortable environment, with scenic and secure grounds, nurse call systems in bedrooms and assisted bathing equipment. The home's conservatory and gardens afford probably the best views in Cockermouth, of the nearby Lakeland Fells.

A range of further health and care services ise made available for service users, with regular visits from GPs and chiropodists, as well as hairdressers.

My 100-year-old mother lived in supported independence until an upper arm fracture compromised her mobility. After 6 weeks in hospital when covid was at its peak she was medically fit to leave but extremely frail. I arranged for her to live at Hames Hall where she became transformed to her old self
over the period of quarantine under the care of the staff. She spent a happy 101st birthday there and made several friends. My relief at finding such a caring and friendly home for her was immense.

I have been made very welcome and given the chance to pick up after a nasty fall. The staff have been very caring and given extra care and time.

Hames Hall have cared for my mother for 5 years until her death at 98 in December 2019. Their care and compassion were exemplary with infinite kindness, patience and humour. The communication with me and my family was always warm, tactful and reassuring. All the staff went beyond the call of duty. I
cannot recommend Hames Hall highly enough.

My dear wife had been a resident at Hames Hall for almost two years until her death at the end of January this year. She had suffered much and had endured many falls and operations. But she had found comfort in the loving embrace of her carers in her beautiful room overlooking the attractive garden
and hills behind. The carers have shown me great kindness also. With their help and support, my wife's ashes have now been interred in the enchanting garden at Hames Hall and a memorial plaque placed nearby. Beautiful red roses, gypsophila and polemonium grace the spot. I have remembered Hames Hall in my Will. The carers have given us both so much. It gives me great joy and comfort to be able to do this.

My husband enjoys being in respite care at Hames Hall.

My mother entered the home almost 4 months in different circumstances and the home was very supportive and did all they could to ease her transition and protect her from a difficult relation. The home is clean, well staffed and well run. There are activities and day trips for the residents. There is
plenty of food and some of it is grown in the garden. There are very nice grounds and it is in a pleasant setting. The staff are mostly very friendly and have good relationships with my mother. We know my mother is safe and well looked after.

Throughout the twelve months I have been here I have been very happy.
I have felt safe and well cared for and the staff have all been attentive, pleasant and efficient.

My wife has been a resident at Hames Hall for over four years. She is now 96, partially sighted with macular degeneration and with moderate dementia.
I am 92. My wife is happy and settled and has never made any complaint and enjoys the food.
I can visit at any time, usually five or six times a week
and can join her in a meal if I wish.
I have celebrated Christmas, birthdays and diamond wedding there, as they occurred, with staff cooperation and participation. Visitors have commented it is more like a small country hotel, lacking any institutionalism.
The staff are all friendly, caring and competent.

I have worked in the care sector for over twenty years, starting as a care assistant, and working up to gaining my level five in leadership and management. Following on from this, I have been a manager at Hames Hall for almost nine years. I am passionate about working in the care sector, supporting people to achieve the best outcomes through personalized care. As a manager, I have the privilege of working alongside staff who have a great teamwork ethos and are proud of their work to create a family environment.
