My mother has been happily resident in the Old Vicarage, Allithwaite for over 5 years. The staff are like family, she has a light and airy room and the meals and entertainment are second to none. She feels safe and secure is never lonely and my mind is a peace that she is well cared for whatever the
time of day and night. We, that is my 96 year old mother and I chose the Home together after strong personal recommendation, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. I feel very lucky to have found such a place close to home so I can pop in for a cuddle and chat with Mum whenever we need it. Long may it continue providing such a vital service.

The Old Vicarage is an old building, It is gradually being updated and redecorated. My sister and I have been welcomed from day one. My sister is unable to communicate, she is bilingual and also has Alzheimer's dementia, this causes extra challenges for the staff. They have made flashcards with short
sentences, which I have translated and also photos of meals. This not only benefits my sister, but other residents with limited language or speech. The care manager is very involved with the residents and their family members. The residents have a choice of menus. Hot and cold drinks are offered frequently. Each morning and afternoon there are different activities offered and each resident help to reach their potential. At the weekend the activities are less structured, the residents seem very happy. There are security alarms on all the outside doors. I very much appreciate the internet connection. Overall this home is a very happy place. Often you hear laughter from residents and staff.

Reply from Kamal Siddiqi, Owner at The Old Vicarage

Thank you for your feedback and support. We are pleased that our Communication and Photo Menu Flashcards have proved to be beneficial for the provision of care for your sister. Our menu is thoughtfully planned with the concept of enjoying every meal and our activities aim to enhance the quality of life. And laughter is most certainly the best medicine of all.

Mum has been in the Old Vicarage for 6 years now and there has never been a moment when I have been concerned for her care or safety. She is always clean, well fed and kept busy with different activities. She is often awake and up during the night but the staff will make her a snack and chat to
her until she settles down again!
Without exception, the staff are so caring and concerned for all the residents (& their families). The events they arrange for everyone - Christmas, birthdays, bonfire night, etc are always well supported and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
I am just so pleased that the Old Vicarage was our first choice of care and support for mum. It's a very special place to be.

We spent 3 months looking for quality full-time residential care in south Lakeland/North Lancashire for Dad. Our prerequisites were for a small safe homely environment with attentive caring staff, high-quality food, stimulating activities, and access to a safe outside environment. Dad moved into the
Old Vicarage in early August 2024 where the staff made a fantastic effort to settle him into his new environment. During this period feedback and communication were exemplary with several adaptions made to his environment and daily routines to enhance his care. He particularly enjoys a walk in the neatly tended garden and an occasional village walk accompanied by staff. The lunchtime dining experience is recommended with nutritious home-cooked food and always a surprise dessert. Our personal experience to date has been very positive and all staff made our Dad and family very welcome.

The Old Vicarage Care Home is just that. A caring home from home. My mother is treated with love and respect and all her needs are met. She attends here 2x weekly for daycare and for longer when a respite bed is available. She is well-fed, well-looked after and entertained.

Reply from Kamal Siddiqi, Owner at The Old Vicarage

Thank you for your positive feedback; it is much appreciated. We endeavour to provide care and reassurance for all our residents and hope that we create a warm and friendly care home.

Homely ren-institutional atmosphere. Residents are primarily female but welcoming.
Good range of activities available including links with the community.
Management is reflected in the low turnover of staff. Good feedback of the day to the carer regarding any concerns raised/occurring during the day.
As
a sole carer, I feel very comfortable that they are sensitive to the needs of both of us and able to offer support appropriately.

My auntie now lives at The Old Vicarage and every time I visit I find the staff very friendly and helpful. Nothing is ever too much trouble, she is being well cared for and looked after to meet all her needs. It is a very comfortable and caring establishment. I always feel grateful when I leave that
I have found such a nice place for her to reside in.

Very happy with the care that Mum is receiving - ever since she moved in (2019), she has been well looked after. During Covid, the house did an excellent job keeping the residents and staff safe. Thank you, and for the record, Mum seems to have more energy now than before she moved in.

My mother has lived at The Old Vicarage for over 4 years. She is contented and well cared for. It is a happy and friendly home and, without exception, the staff are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble. It is noticeable that the owner puts the care of and facilities for the residents at the top of
his agenda. He goes out of his way to do things for the residents to make their lives happier and more fulfilling. There is a good range of activities available daily and every effort is made to personalise the care. The food is very good. It is full marks to everyone that the home has thrived during the past few challenging years of Covid and short staffing. I would highly recommend The Old Vicarage to both future residents and staff.

Mum has been at The Old Vicarage for over 6 months and though she has Alzheimer's, she is enjoying the care that she receives, and the interaction she has with other residents and carers alike. She says, "there's always another cup of tea around the corner", which sums up the attentiveness of the staff.
The surroundings are pleasant and clean, and homely - not institutional in any way. When I first started talking to staff about my mother going to live at The Old Vicarage, I was blown away by the fact that I was listened to, and not just talked at. They were keen to get to know Mum and what she liked so that they could continue helping her to enjoy her life. In short, Mum is healthier and happier than she had been in the last months, or even years of her living at her own home. Would I recommend The Old Vicarage to families in similar circumstances? You bet, I would! They are happy for families to visit - in my own case, on a very regular basis. Thanks to everyone involved.

The care staff are excellent at providing activities and things for my grandma to do. They've looked after her exceptionally well, including mental health issues along the way. The walks and 'jobs' that they get involved with really give her a sense of purpose after being independent for so long in
life. Exceptional place highly recommended to many.
I understand during Covid, it has been difficult, but the staff shortage was handled as best as it could be, but some minor errors were made regarding staff attitude. Nothing major, and still a great place!

When I visited The Old Vicarage I was impressed by the feeling that this was home to the residents and not an institution.
My father has Alzheimer's and has found his removal from his own home into care very difficult at times. He has a lovely room but prefers to spend his time in the conservatory
where he can have the company he craves and enjoy the views of the garden and church. There is always lots going on with an excellent range of activities including the family and visitors at special events.
The staff are always cheerful and inclusive. They deal with any problems promptly and professionally. I know that I can leave my father in the knowledge that he is treated respectfully with empathy and friendliness. That he is safe.
I cannot stress how highly I value this home and am in complete agreement with other families who recommended it to me.

My mum has been in The Old Vicarage for four months now. She moved here after the previous care home closed down. This would have been a stressful time for her but the staff were exceptionally good in getting her settled much quicker than I anticipated. The staff and management are very professional,
warm, caring and the establishment is spotless. The food served is of a high quality and the residents are taken out on trips regularly. I would not hesitate in recommending The Old Vicarage to anyone.

My aunt was a resident of The Old Vicarage for two and a half years. During that time we were so pleased to see that, although her mental health was declining, she was treated with compassion and respect. We also felt part of The Old Vicarage 'family', being invited to functions and entertainment.
The support we received on her move into nursing care was amazing. Thank you all.

My father lived here for nearly 2 years prior to his recent passing. The moment he first entered he (and his family) were made to feel very welcome. The care and devotion to the residents is exceptional. The place is at all times spotlessly clean. The food is all homemade and always looks very tempting.
The gardens are well maintained and the parking is good. We have been absolutely delighted by the care all (night and day) staff gave my father and cannot praise this home loudly enough.

Myself and my family have been consistently impressed with every aspect of care at The Old Vicarage. I have had experience of many care homes over the years and nowhere else have I experienced this level of exceptional personal care. The Old Vicarage has a warm, upbeat family feel. The food and activity
programme are excellent. The staff are thoughtful, considerate and always have time to talk. I cannot recommend The Old Vicarage highly enough.

The Old Vicarage has cared for my mother for the last four and a half years. I cannot recommend the care and professionalism and of the staff enough. The Old Vicarage is an amazing care home and nothing is too much to ensure that their clients have the highest standard of life possible. (and the food
is really good too!)

My mum has been living at The Old Vicarage since September 2016. The management and staff have made, and continue to make, her welcome from day one. Knowing that she's looked after and cared for in such a way is such a weight off our minds. Family/visitors are made just as welcome and are included
in any major activities (e.g. bonfire night, Christmas, Easter etc.). Importantly, the staff actually CARE for the residents. I'd have no hesitation in recommending The Old Vicarage.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.566)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.566) out of 10 for The Old Vicarage is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.766 for The Old Vicarage is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.766

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Vicarage is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
