The Review Score of 7.8 (7.834) out of 10 for The Lakes is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.
The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.
The Average Rating of 4.667 for The Lakes is calculated as follows: ( (8 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.667
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').
The 3.167 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Lakes is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.167
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager
Joined: 2024
Hello, my name is Clare Biggins. With over 20 years of experience in the care sector, I have dedicated my career to supporting and enhancing the lives of others. From an early stage, I discovered a deep passion for caring, which led me to pursue a fulfilling path within care homes.
As a mother of two boys, I balanced my family life with my growing career, starting as a support worker in a 60-bed dementia home. Over time, as my children grew, I was able to devote more of my energy to my role. This dedication allowed me to progress into the position of registered manager. Throughout this journey, I developed a strong focus on dementia care, striving to understand the profound effects it has on those living with the condition.
My approach is centred on stepping into the world of each individual living with dementia, acknowledging the challenges they face in making sense of their surroundings due to cognitive decline. My goal is to offer compassionate, individualised care that meets their unique needs.
As the manager at The Lakes Care Home, I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with our dedicated team, continuously working to enhance the quality of life for the residents we have the privilege to care for.
Job Title: Deputy Manager
Joined: 2020
After several years of being self-employed and caring for my parents, I felt a need for a career that allowed me to make a more direct impact on people’s lives. This realisation led me to the care sector, where I began my journey in 2008 as a carer. Over the years, I gained experience in various settings, including assisted living, care homes, and community-based care, as well as private caregiving roles. My passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping them live with dignity and purpose became my driving force.
Through hard work and dedication, I progressed from a carer to a managerial role, eventually becoming the Manager of The Lakes Care Home. During my time as Manager, I focused on creating a person-centred approach to care, with a particular emphasis on supporting residents living with dementia. I believe that every resident deserves a fulfilling life, and I am passionate about developing personalized care plans that enhance their quality of life.
My role as Manager also gave me the opportunity to mentor and support my team. Sharing my knowledge of dementia care and fostering a culture of learning became a priority for me. I found great satisfaction in seeing my team grow and gain confidence in providing the best care possible to our residents.
However, after years in a demanding managerial position, I decided to transition to a Deputy Manager role to achieve a better work-life balance and take a more hands-on approach in my day-to-day interactions with residents. This shift has allowed me to focus on what I love most: working closely with residents, building strong connections, and continuing to inspire and support my team in delivering compassionate, high-quality care.
Originally from Cheshire, I relocated to Cumbria after marrying. I am a mother of two and a proud grandmother of three wonderful grandchildren. Spending time with my family and embracing my role as “Granny” brings me great joy, and I cherish every moment I get to spend with them.
