Winters Park Care Home, located in the historic market town of Penrith in the Lake District, provides personalised residential and residential dementia care to older people.

This is now three years into my mother being at Winters Park, and we feel as a family so lucky to have her cared for in such a fantastic manner. The staff are unbelievable in their care and attitude. (We are lucky, lucky, luck!).

I cannot comment on the food and drink as my husband has poor communication. He is a young 72-year-old and I don't think there were many activities for him, which is why the value for money is poor.

Our Activities Coordinators use their energy and ideas to deliver a lively programme of home activities which consider residents' individual interests and abilities. Residents are actively encouraged to engage in these activities and relatives are welcome to join in the fun too. Please be assured you are always most welcome to come into the home during mealtimes to assist your husband or to have a meal together in his room or a private area of the home. My husband has been in the care home since September 2021 and during the time he has been there, it has been under Covid lockdown rules. This has been difficult to adjust to and hasn't given me a fair opportunity to assess the home adequately. I have put the activities as poor but that has been because
of lockdown, residents haven't been able to mix freely with each other and visitors. I know that the staff have been able to improve this situation.

Each person’s interests are taken into account when planning their social activities and the hairdresser is now back on site. The staff at Winters Park have been extremely helpful and kind to my aunt. She agreed to try Winters Park for a 4 week respite period after having a few falls and then made the decision she would like to stay.

My father went to Winters Park after a stay in hospital over Christmas and New Year, to recuperate. At 92 he was still living alone. After discussion with him on day 5 he agreed to stay longer and get stronger before returning home. With all his family living out of the area this was a huge relief to
us, finally he admitted he needed care, eating properly etc.
8 months on he is still there, thankfully, especially during this pandemic. It’s his home now, he loves it. His words from a very astute, intelligent man are, 'I have everything I need here, it’s a 5* hotel. Everything done for me. Food top-notch, staff are absolutely wonderful and caring, I want for nothing.'
Praise indeed from a very independent man! From the family, we can sleep at night knowing he is been so well looked after, even to him enjoying his odd glass of wine.
Well done to all the team at Winters Park, you work so hard especially in these uncertain times. Definitely recommended.

From day one when my father-in-law arrived from hospital it became obvious he would settle in straight away. He was treated with great respect, kindness and friendliness. The staff have ensured that his residence at Winters Park guarantees excellent care, deep admiration for him and given him great
peace of mind.

Couldn’t recommend Winters Park more.
Before my mam became a permanent resident she spent several respite periods at Winters Park and on each occasion, she was treated with great dignity, care and made to feel part of the home family.
Since becoming a permanent resident she has settled in and the
care for her and her dementia has been great. Although we would prefer her not to be in a home, dementia is a cruel disease that doesn’t discriminate against anyone, knowing she is safe, well and happy makes the situation bearable, Winters Park has given us this.
It has been hard during COVID but Winters Park have coped well and knowing how well they are looking after my mam has given great peace of mind. They have tried to do regular FaceTime chats which we have appreciated. Overall very happy with Winters Park, my mams new home.

I do feel that Mum is quite happy at Winters Park and would recommend this care home in Penrith to others. The staff are extremely warm, friendly and caring. I haven't been inside the home since March (Covid-19), but expect standards will still be high.

It is always difficult coming to terms with when a relative can no longer be in their own home. It is therefore reassuring to find somewhere like Winters Park that can care for your relative as you do. The size of the home is not too big and has different areas for the resident's needs. The staff are
caring, approachable and professional. Myself and my family have been visiting the home for over 2 years now and have always been happy with the home and the way it has continued to improve the resident's surroundings, care and experience. They have regular meetings and always striving to improve resident's care. This includes their surroundings inside and in the garden, entertainment and including the wider community so as not to feel isolated (pre-Covid).

This review is of course at a very difficult time in everyone’s lives. COVID-19 has brought huge challenges to the care of the elderly in care homes.
We can not thank enough the management and staff of Winters Park for their care commitment and diligence throughout this time.
They have provided the
love and affection that we have not been able to.
They have provided the means to communicate at a time when we aren’t able to visit ... They give us peace of mind ... They are amazing individuals .... Our mother loves you too.

Mother came into Winters Park for respite due to circumstances she was in lockdown. Although reluctant to admit it, she has settled well and now is content to the point she is laughing, something I have not heard since my father died. I think that says it all!

My mother moved into Winters Park in March, just before lockdown, and I have been both relieved and delighted at the quality of life my mother is now enjoying. She is much happier, eating well, and enjoying the social interaction. She often praises the staff for their care and good humour. The atmosphere
in the home is very positive and when my mother had a medical problem recently, it was dealt with swiftly and sensitively. Both my mother and I agree it was an excellent decision to choose Winters Park.

We find the care home wonderful as they look after our Mum and particularly our Dad for two weeks as he needed respite; he was 100% better after he left. The staff are lovely and very helpful.
As a family, we feel happy our Mum/Gran is in the best place for her.

My mother needed a weeks respite care due to having an eye operation resulting in serious vision impairment. The standard of care she received was highly professional and tailored well to suit her individual needs. Her experience of the home is one of respectful and helpful staff who made her stay relaxing
and supported. It's given her the break she needed to allow her to return to independence.

The manager has been wonderful to my mum who has been looking for respite care for a family member. She has provided a lot of support and information and just provided much needed care and advice at a very critical time. I really would encourage you to visit Winters Park and speak to the team there.

We are incredibly impressed with Winters Park Care Home and pray every day in thanks for staff and kindness given to residents, including my Mum (aged 99).
Two members of staff, in particular, are superb and the new manager is 'just the ticket'.
The latter has brought 'Tigger' the kitten into the
home and Mum loves this little cat.
My husband and I have no worries about Mum's care and support and are very grateful for the day to day security Mum feels.
