My mother has been in residential care now for 18-months here. I know she joins in some of the activities as she used to love playing Bingo. The staff are very caring, and they are always very friendly to me whenever I visit. Nothing is any trouble for them. I really appreciate all the lovely staff
that work here.

My mother has been a resident for over 2 years. She is aged 96 and was admitted from hospital after being deemed incapable of managing in her own home, where she lived alone. There were no near relatives living near enough to help. Despite initial difficulties, the care home staff were excellent and
helped her settle. The staff were caring and supportive and found a room in which she felt comfortable. Without the help of the staff, I would not have been able to provide the safe and comfortable environment which she now enjoys.

My father has been a resident at Parklands for over two years. The care staff are all friendly, very patient and attentive and will go out of their way to attend to my father's needs. The accommodation is clean and safe and my father's bedroom is comfortable for him. My father has often commented on
how he enjoys the food on offer. There are a series of activities available to all the residents, although my father tends not to participate. I know my father is well cared for, and the home is always very welcoming to visitors.

Our family member has been a respite resident since December 2018 and will now be staying permanently. The staff at Parklands have all shown themselves to be extremely caring, thoughtful and go above and beyond to meet the needs of residents. The staff took time to know our relatives likes and dislikes
and make every effort to be kind and considerate at all times, we have witnessed this with our relative and other residents on every visit.

The care and staff attitude are very good.
The only 'extra' that would be beneficial to patients who are mobile would be a secure outdoor area where they could be unattended.

When Mum needed EMI care we found Parklands Care Home through comparing homes and CQC inspection reports on Carehome.co.uk.
The decision to hand over Mam's care to someone else was one of the hardest things our family had to do but after meeting the care home manager, our first impressions of the care
home were very good. The atmosphere was calm and homely and we could see that everyone was well looked after.
The manager bent over backwards to make sure there would be a permanent bed available after the initial respite period to avoid another unsettling move for Mam.
All of the staff are fantastic - so friendly, caring and helpful. They take great care of Mam and also support and take care of Dad when he visits.

The home is quite alright. The only thing I disagreed with was the activities - there didn't seem to be much at first but there is now. The majority of staff are good but you can't expect everything to be perfect. I have no complaints.

I have found that since my mother entered Parklands nearly three years ago, the occupancy has doubled without seeing a marked addition to the staff.

Reply from Eileen Jarmain, Manager at Parklands Care Home

The occupancy of Parklands has indeed increased, along with the staffing levels. We are governed by CQC and must provide an appropriate level of trained staffing levels to holistically care for the client group we are registered to care for, however, I now plan to provide a daily staffing list which will be displayed for all visitors and clients to read and
would be more than happy to discuss any issues/concerns that any client /family member may have.
Kind Regards
Eileen Jarmain

As my aunt was not one of the easiest person to deal with, she had the usual resentment that most old people have of going into a home, the staff did a first class job in looking after her.
The night she died one of the senior carers gave me great support. I think this home does a first class job
in difficult circumstances. My aunt was in the home just over a year and I found the staff dedicated to their work.

My mother spent 4 weeks in Parklands after some time in hospital. Our initial impression of the care home was very good. We were impressed but the cleanliness, the rooms, the facilities and especially the food and the attitude of the staff. After my mother was admitted we were not at all disappointed
she improved rapidly both mentally and physically over the time she was there. The staff were unbelievably good, quickly building a caring relationship with the residents. I cannot praise the establishment and staff too much. I would certainly recommend the care home to anyone looking for a safe, friendly and professional home for placing a relative.

I found every aspect of this care home excellent, it is the first time we have had to use such care and everybody has enabled our family to feel more comfortable in mind and ease our stress during a very difficult period.
Although we have only had temporary stay we will have no hesitation in using
Parklands for all our future short term or long term needs.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.362)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.362) out of 10 for Parklands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.462 for Parklands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.462

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parklands Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
