Lambton House is a family owned residential care home, situated in open countryside on the outskirts of Bournmoor, near to Chester-le-Street & Houghton-le-Spring, not far from the historic city of Durham.

With 57 ensuite bedrooms, communal areas, a quiet library lounge & in-house hairdressing salon, the original twentieth-century property has been seamlessly extended to be spacious, light, comfortable & dementia-friendly.

An exceptional living environment has been created to encompass all the needs and requirements for any person in need of care, comfort, compassion and friendship.

The home is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens offering residents and visitors a peaceful and tranquil setting to enjoy open country views beyond the home's boundaries. The garden hosts outdoor entertainment events during the summer.

Lambton's garden is also home to the 'Residents' Rainbow Tearoom' and 'Pit Stop Bar'. The tearoom opened Aug 2020 is a social meeting place for residents and families to use. In May 2021 the residents' private 'Pit Stop Garden Bar' was opened offering another social stimulation meeting place. The snug-style bar is also in the main garden building with a local mining heritage and reminiscence themed interior. The bar is heated and offers visitors a TV, magnetic dartboard, dominoes and card games.
The garden building has a toilet.

In 2023, a cinema projector and large drop down screen was installed in the home for resident film evenings.

The Lambton team consists of senior care managers, professionally trained carers, activities co-ordinators, domestic, maintenance, housekeeping & kitchen staff.

Lambton House is registered with the National Dignity Council, promoting and committing to Dignity in Care. It is also a member of NAPA, (National Activity Providers Association).

My mum has been in Lambton House Care Home for just over 12 months now. She has settled in really well. The Staff and Management have been excellent in their care, patience and encouragement in helping mum settle into her new home. Entertainment and activities are second to none. Also, beautiful outdoor
area with gorgeous tearooms and verandah. It gives us great peace of mind that she is getting well looked after with lovely home-cooked meals and snacks.
The social media page helps us feel more connected and see what she and the other residents are doing throughout the week.
I would highly recommend Lambton House Care Home to anyone looking for a caring residential home. The Staff and Management team do an excellent job.

I have someone resident in this care home with dementia and all I can say is the care received is exceptional. The staff and management are a credit to their profession. The residents' well-being and care is first and foremost. They have plenty of activities and entertainment, it is like a home from
home. Cleanliness is 100%. I have visited a couple of care homes locally and there is no comparison. I highly recommend Lambton Care Home 100%.

The care given at Lambton House is outstanding. All members of the team really care about the residents and go the extra mile to keep them happy and engaged. Moreover, the home itself is kept to a really high standard and the grounds outside are wonderful. The team constantly arrange a large number

My mother has been at Lambton House Care Home for fifteen months now and I have had only positive experiences of Lambton House, the facilities and its staff.
There is regular entertainment, e.g. singers. The entertainment co-ordinators keep my mum amused with bingo, arts/crafts to name a few. My mum
has built some lovely relationships with the staff who evidently genuinely care about her.
The staff communicate effectively with me on a regular basis which is reassuring and they are now very familiar with her as an individual in respect of her needs, both physically and emotionally.
There has been a new chef of late and the food, my mum reports, is even better than before! She particularly loves fish and chip Friday and the food-tasting evenings that are put on when residents can sample a range of different foods, e.g. Chinese.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Lambton House to anyone looking for a caring residential home for a loved one.

The home meets my mother's needs. She is clean well fed, warm and happy. All of the staff are great and do a good job. They are very friendly and accommodate our visits very well. There is plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained and engaged. Pleased we found this home.

My experience, up to now, is that this home is at the very top of the care home league if there is such an animal. It has that homely atmosphere about it which must be so hard to accomplish with so many people with so many different health or mental problems. The home is kept scrupulously clean. It
doesn't have that horrible smell of body waste and unwashed bodies at all. A fault I found and encountered sometimes in the work I did before retirement. This is because of the attention the staff carry out to the health, well-being and cleanliness to the residents, and of course the cleanliness of the home. This care and attention to all I have said that I bless and value the day the management accepted my loved one into their care. Also, I must mention the activities staff who do a wonderful, difficult job in keeping the residents attended and occupied. Finally, my thanks and gratitude to the management for keeping us aware of what our loved ones are up to through social media.

My friend of 45 years was admitted to Lambton House in November and has settled better than her son and I anticipated. She was very lonely at home after her husband died in February 2019. She lost friends during Covid and her short term memory deteriorated and she became depressed. Since moving into
Lambton her mood has lifted and our fun loving friend has returned. Staff are very professional and all residents are treated with respect and dignity. Activities/entertainment is fantastic, with lots of social interaction. A big thank you to all Lambton staff for the care and support given to our loved ones. In my opinion this is a well managed 5 star residential care home.

What a lovely place this is. Everything is organised to provide the residents with the best experience possible. The staff are really caring and there are loads of activities and events to keep the residents busy and entertained. The rooms are really nice and kept spotless and the garden is just lovely.

My mam has been at Lambton House for three months now and I can honestly say I could not be happier with the care she is receiving. The staff are so kind, always there with a smile, a joke or words of encouragement, they are very approachable and always ready to help. Mam thoroughly enjoys the activities
and entertainment from hair and beauty to bingo, dominoes, and the garden and grounds, which are extensive and include a pub and tea room! To quizzes and crafts and baking - the list is endless, as it would seem is the energy of Lambton House staff! Mam has a beautiful room, everything is so immaculately clean She is so well looked after. It was such a worry placing her in care but I am delighted we found Lambton House, a big thank you to each and every member of staff who has helped mam to settle and who care for her with such kindness, empathy and compassion You are all amazing!

Fantastic friendly staff, plenty of activities for residents, the residents are kept entertained and involved every day. Mam is really happy here, especially with the fabulous garden which residents are encouraged to enjoy in the summer. The rooms are kept clean and tidy, I could not fault it.

We put my dad in for respite while we were on holiday. The staff couldn’t have been better going over and above what they needed to do. My dad enjoyed it very much. It was very clean and very professional, and the garden is amazing. Would definitely recommend.

I cannot fault Dad's care whilst he was in Lambton House, the staff were friendly and caring, they were very accommodating and Dad felt they really helped him rest and recuperate.
The garden is beautiful and Dad enjoyed walking in it building his strength, we were over the moon with the care he received,
the entertainment that was provided and I’m sure Dad loved his daily tipple.
I cannot recommend Lambton House enough, thanks so much for giving us our dad back.

Even though I have not been able to visit my Mum in person for a long time, I Skype with her regularly from overseas. Mum finally gets the pampering she deserves when she has her hair, nails and makeup done and I think she quite enjoys it! She has even resumed reading for pleasure. I cannot say enough
good things about all of the staff who go out of their way to greet the residents cheerily and treat them with dignity, respect and humour and behind-the-scenes staff who ensure the internet connections run as smoothly as possible.
And all of this in a pandemic, which has challenged everyone. Staff provide an absolutely essential service and you are very much appreciated by the residents, their families and friends. Nothing would function without your constant care, diligence and kindness. It has been an absolute godsend seeing regular Facebook posts and knowing Mum is happy and well. Thank you so very much!

We are so pleased we found this care home it is perfect. Dad was in the process of being tested for Dementia, but he came in here for 2-weeks respite, to give Mam a rest. After 3-days he was asking when he could come back after his stay had ended, he absolutely loved it. The respite was extended for
a week as he was joining in with activities and entertainment, which he wouldn’t do at home and they have got him in a great routine instead of sleeping all day. Friends and family don’t recognise him now, he is a different man. They have even managed to get him to go to the hospital appointments, which he would not do from home. After his third week, he got his diagnosis, and he had Alzheimer’s. After we talked to him, he wanted to stay here permanently so Mam could now rest. He is always complimenting the staff, he says he wants for nothing and they will do anything for him and that the food is great. We would definitely recommend this care home.

My mother has been in Lambton House for 8 weeks respite and we have found that the facilities are very good and the staff very caring. My mother particularly likes the entertainment that is provided, especially when the weather is nice and able to watch in the garden outside the delightful tea room
and Pitstop Bar. She also looks forward to visiting the Hair Salon every Friday to have her hair washed, blow-dried and have a natter with the hairdresser and other residents. Mother did not want to leave her own home as no one would but has decided to stay at Lambton House as a permanent resident.

Staff have been extremely helpful, caring and supportive to help Mam adjust to her new home. They have kept us updated on her health, welfare and how she is settling into her new environment. They have a varied range of entertainment to keep residents occupied, and Mam particularly enjoys the afternoon
singers, especially if it’s in the garden as it was in the recent warm spell.

Marie is a dedicated healthcare professional and is a qualified registered manager.


Her commitment is demonstrated through 30 years of experience in providing care and support to elderly people at Lambton House.


She is a passionate, knowledgeable and dynamic leader who is determined to deliver the highest standards of care and quality of life for all of the residents at Lambton.
Marie understands the essential need for continuous learning, teamwork and delegation and values her colleague's input to the successful running of Lambton.
She remarks “ I believe that without a sense of teamwork in caring, there can be no sense of community.
We foster a transparent and open culture at Lambton House, with common goals for high standards throughout all aspects of our service. Our entire team has a mix of role-relevant skills and experience. I'm extremely proud of the service we run and the environment we have created for our staff and residents.”
