Lambton House is a family owned residential care home, situated in open countryside on the outskirts of Bournmoor, near to Chester-le-Street & Houghton-le-Spring, not far from the historic city of Durham.

With 57 ensuite bedrooms, communal areas, a quiet library lounge & in-house hairdressing salon, the original twentieth-century property has been seamlessly extended to be spacious, light, comfortable & dementia-friendly.

An exceptional living environment has been created to encompass all the needs and requirements for any person in need of care, comfort, compassion and friendship.

The home is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens offering residents and visitors a peaceful and tranquil setting to enjoy open country views beyond the home's boundaries. The garden hosts outdoor entertainment events during the summer.

Lambton's garden is also home to the 'Residents' Rainbow Tearoom' and 'Pit Stop Bar'. The tearoom opened Aug 2020 is a social meeting place for residents and families to use. In May 2021 the residents' private 'Pit Stop Garden Bar' was opened offering another social stimulation meeting place. The snug-style bar is also in the main garden building with a local mining heritage and reminiscence themed interior. The bar is heated and offers visitors a TV, magnetic dartboard, dominoes and card games.
The garden building has a toilet.

In 2023, a cinema projector and large drop down screen was installed in the home for resident film evenings.

The Lambton team consists of senior care managers, professionally trained carers, activities co-ordinators, domestic, maintenance, housekeeping & kitchen staff.

Lambton House is registered with the National Dignity Council, promoting and committing to Dignity in Care. It is also a member of NAPA, (National Activity Providers Association).

    Advance notice also helps the housekeeping team who can prioritise bedrooms where resident bedroom visits taking place.

My brother and I looked at several care homes for our mother.
From our initial visit, we found the home had a very friendly and homely feel.
The staff are all very dedicated and friendly; nothing is a problem.
We could not have chosen a safer home form our mother, especially now during the covid-19
pandemic. I feel the staff have gone above and beyond to keep all residents and themselves safe and well.

The staff allowed me to use their personal iPads to video and see Mum, which makes such a difference in lockdown. Mum always looks happy and smiling with a story to tell about a picnic or afternoon tea they have had, which is very reassuring for family members.

I would totally recommend Lambton House to anyone who is considering using a care home.
The home itself is lovely and clean; they have nice, bright public areas and comfortable rooms. The staff are amazingly friendly and extremely helpful; always a warm welcome no matter what time of day you call.
If anyone is looking for a care home, you need to put Lambton House at the top of your list.

The staff at Lambton House are very dedicated and caring. During this difficult time (COVID-19) video call sessions have been provided to keep in contact with loved ones. I can honestly say that I am content knowing my mother is in there being looked after by a set of wonderful carers and management
team. I would recommend Lambton House to anyone.

Joined: 1993

Marie is a dedicated healthcare professional and is a qualified registered manager.


Her commitment is demonstrated through 30 years of experience in providing care and support to elderly people at Lambton House.


She is a passionate, knowledgeable and dynamic leader who is determined to deliver the highest standards of care and quality of life for all of the residents at Lambton.
Marie understands the essential need for continuous learning, teamwork and delegation and values her colleague's input to the successful running of Lambton.
She remarks “ I believe that without a sense of teamwork in caring, there can be no sense of community.
We foster a transparent and open culture at Lambton House, with common goals for high standards throughout all aspects of our service. Our entire team has a mix of role-relevant skills and experience. I'm extremely proud of the service we run and the environment we have created for our staff and residents.”


When she’s not at Lambton House, Marie enjoys travelling and spending quality time with family and friends.
