Welcome to Rose Lodge.

Rose Lodge is a purpose-built care home built in 2003 and then extended in 2004 to incorporate its specialised Dementia unit. Located in Cobblers Lane the home is located less than 2 miles from Newton Aycliffe Town Centre with 7 Sapphire bus stop on Burnhill Way and number 17 bus on Burn Lane.

The home is divided into four units, spread over two floors with the Lincoln and Hamilton suites housing 12 rooms for residential dementia residents and the main building caters for residential clients. All units have their own lounge and dining room for residents to relax and enjoy the delicious food cooked onsite in the homes kitchen.

There is a coffee shop in the main building with coffee corner and the snug in Lincoln and Hamilton units with complementary tea and coffee available for visitors to the home.

All bedrooms are provided fully furnished with en suite facilities and shared bathrooms and shower rooms with the option of personalising your own room with furniture from home and accessories should this be needed.

Rose Lodge's full-time activities coordinator provides residents with an extensive programme of activities, entertainment and events as well as trips out of the home to the local PCP groups. Its central location, regular coffee mornings and luncheon clubs, and charity fundraising events mean the home enjoys strong community links.

They have a 5-star award in Food Hygiene at the home and believe food is a huge aspect of their care at Rose Lodge and residents enjoy a cooked breakfast, choice of lunch and dinner meals, supper and hospitality trolley with drinks and cakes throughout the day.

My Mam receives excellent care and attention from the staff at the Care Home. She has all her meals specially made as she has a swallowing problem. This has enabled her to receive the nutrition she needs and has brought to an end her constant sickness when eating. I attribute this improvement to
the vigilance of the staff whoo organised her a Hospital investigation. I had been unable to achieve this for her through her previous GP when she was living at home. As a result of this, she has galined weight and is much stronger than when she first moved in to Care. She can walk with the aid of the Zimmer frame

Our experience with Rose Lodge Care Home was very positive during our loved one's respite stay of several weeks. The staff provided excellent attention to all aspects of personal care, ensuring my Mother-in-law was well-looked after with regular visits from the hairdresser and good attention to grooming
needs.
The team's holistic approach stood out - they didn't just focus on basic care but ensured residents had access to services that maintained their dignity and well-being. Staff showed genuine care in their interactions, making it feel more like a home than a facility.
The level of personal attention and professionalism gave us great peace of mind. We're grateful for the compassionate care provided by the Rose Lodge team during this time.

My mother has stayed at Rose Lodge for respite. She was very happy when we visited as she was not on her own. My family were very impressed at how friendly the staff were. The home is very clean, with plenty of activities. The manager was very helpful to us. As a family, we felt Mam was safe at Rose
Lodge.

My mam has been here for the past couple of weeks recovering from illness. She is going home tomorrow, but her stay here has been lovely. All the staff are ultra friendly and approachable. Her room was spacious and cosy. They have a lovely dining room laid out like a restaurant and she even got a daily
cooked breakfast. There were also plenty of activities for residents. I can honestly say this place is really good and definitely recommend it. Thank you to everyone for taking good care of my mam.

Very pleased with all aspects of care at Rose Lodge Newton Aycliffe. The staff are all very kind and patient with a good sprinkle of humour thrown in to lift spirits when required. Mum particularly enjoyed the activities, with music and movement and the singer who visited amongst her favourites. Food
choices are excellent and the endless cups of coffee/beverages are all very much appreciated. Would definitely recommend Rose Lodge to anyone looking for a caring, homely environment for their loved ones.

My mam has been a resident of Rose Lodge for just over a year. I cannot fault the staff's commitment to their residents. No home is perfect, but the carers work extremely hard. They are pleasant and caring. My mam is coming to the end of her life, but these girls have made her remaining time with us
enjoyable. She has flourished under their excellent care.

This care home is very welcoming to the residents. I partially love the range of activities that they have on. My aunt loves engaging in the activities, especially when the care home gets singers in, as she feels like she is the performance. She also enjoys playing bingo or dominoes. The staff are very
supportive, and I am glad that my aunt is well cared for.

Having many years experience in healthcare, the thought of having to choose a care home for my beloved Nana was daunting. As a family we decided to choose Rose Lodge Care Home and never did we ever regret this. My nana was cared for as we as her family would of cared for her, she was shown love and
affection and nothing was ever too much trouble. I would not hesitate to choose this care home again should we need to. I am forever grateful to each and every member of staff. Thank you Rose Lodge Care Home.

Rose Lodge is a very friendly home. Staff are very caring and will help you with any needs your family member has. My dad loves the activities, i.e. bingo, dominoes, armchair exercises, and reading books from their library. l have no hesitation in recommending this care home.

My father-in-law has lived there for over a year now. He loves it there; he has made friends and loves the activities and entertainment. He loves mealtimes sitting around the dining table chatting with other residents. Rose Lodge has a lovely and friendly atmosphere, and the staff are lovely to him.
He is very happy there, and that's all I could ask for.

My mother-in-law went to Rose Lodge two years ago and the care she has received has been amazing. I have not seen my mother-in-law look as healthy as she does and she is so happy in her surroundings, I know this is due to the care and support given by the staff and management at the home. I know my
wife is now able to settle at night knowing her mother is safe and well cared for.

Please please do not use this home. This is the most awful place. Understaffed, staff under pressure, and not the slightest hint of joy here. Any good reviews must be old reviews. Do your research. If you love your family member and they have dementia please take them elsewhere.

Rose Lodge is a clean and modern care home. The staff I engaged with on visits were pleasant and helpful when approached. My mother-in-law was placed in Rose Lodge temporarily. However, my experience of visiting my mother-in-law in the home was not a good one. She has mild to moderate dementia symptoms,
which manifests as confusion and no perception of time. She was placed on a floor with patients who displayed more severe dementia symptoms. This made her very uncomfortable and miserable (unfortunately, we were unable to move floors). On observation, some of the residents were not very clean and were walking around the corridors in badly soiled clothes. On one occasion a resident was banging on the door to be let out as I was trying to leave, no staff came to her aid. These are just a couple of examples. Whilst I appreciate that the staff have a difficult and demanding job, the residents are someone's family and therefore should be treated with care and respect at all times.

I found this care home perfect for my aunt who has advanced dementia. Her meals were given to her already cut up to make eating much easier for her. Her care is person-centred. The activities she enjoyed were offered on a daily basis, her favourite will always be armchair exercises. We are so pleased
with the care home.

The staff are Rose Lodge Care Home do a very good job for my mum and residents. They are helpful and make sure that nothing is a bother. To me, the staff don't get paid enough for the job they do. It's hard work and demanding, hats off to the ladies and gentlemen you have at your company. Just to say
a special mention to the care home's cat, 19 years old and the residents love him at Rose Lodge.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.300)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.300) out of 10 for Rose Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.952 for Rose Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.952

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.348 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rose Lodge Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.8 = 0.648

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
