Welcome to Rose Lodge.

The home is divided into four units, spread over two floors with the Lincoln and Hamilton suites housing 12 rooms for residential dementia residents and the main building caters for residential clients. All units have their own lounge and dining room for residents to relax and enjoy the delicious food cooked onsite in the homes kitchen.

From admission, the care and helpfulness given from management to care worker level, has been of the highest degree.
The staff have performed well and to the standard wanted.
Nothing is a trouble to any of the staff and I feel my wife is in very good hands.

Rose Lodge has exceeded our expectation. My mother was far from keen to move into care, and was made more than apprehensive about making the move. However, having made the move she is very happy in her life. So much so, she wants to stay at Rose Lodge 'until the end of her days'.

The home is bright

and cheerful. The staff are all exceptional and go all out to make the residents comfortable.

On my visits I found this home Rose Lodge to have a warm and friendly feel. The staff and residents seem so relaxed in a homely atmosphere. I find it important that the residents who are more able, are, and should be provided with simple but various interesting versatilities and a little more exercise
so they enjoy each day - more outings too.

Reply from Nicola Wheatley, Home Manager at Rose Lodge Care Home

Thank you for your comments. We are very glad that you enjoy your visits to our home. We too believe it is important to incorporate regular exercise and outings as part of our Activities programme. We hold exercise classes with a visiting personal trainer every 2 weeks and our residents are invited to attend an outing to a local monthly lunch club as well as clubs at the neighbouring PCP centre. Recently we have also been attending Spennymoor Leisure Centre’s Dementia-friendly swimming sessions which take place every month. Over the colder winter months our residents tend to prefer more indoor activities but as the warmer weather approaches, we will be arranging more outings and walks. If you’d like more information on the activities programme or have any suggestions then please feel free to speak to me or one of our Activities Coordinators.

Our mother moved into Rose Lodge on a temporary emergency placement.
We had made some informal enquiries with a view to taking mother to look around, however, events overtook us.
We were impressed by the level of personal contact from our enquiry and the fact that we were told just to pop in and no
need for an appointment to look around.
Upon admission my mother (and us) were made very welcome, nothing was rushed and her room had been beautifully prepared with fresh flowers, chocolates and a welcome card.
The staff were professional and reassuring.

My husband had a short stay in Rose Lodge January 11th until 14th Jan to enable me to have respite, he was made very welcome and even though he was a bit of a trial the staff managed him very well, 10/10. I wouldn't be afraid to leave him again.

My mother was very unwell when she first went to Rose Lodge but over the last two months with the love and great care that all staff have given her she is now almost back to her old self. Rose Lodge has a very warm caring almost family like feeling as soon as you walk through the doors. I would not
hesitate to recommend this home to anyone as I leave each time after visiting. I am happy in the knowledge my mother is in very good hands.

The manager is confident, capable and supports the staff who are respected and valued. The home focusses on relationships and people and provides a community of people. The home is clean and tidy and lived in and is a welcoming place to visit. Visiting has no restrictions. Relatives can converse openly
with staff and be confident of their support. All staff are caring and supportive.

Mum being taken into the care home was a very traumatic experience for mum and her sons and daughters. Rose Lodge staff were very emphatic, supportive, helpful and reassuring. Mums family feel confident that the staff and management are fully committed to mums care and welfare. I personally feel the
ethos of the staff is genuine and caring. As a family we feel that nothing is a trouble to the staff. The whole environment at Rose Lodge is welcoming, friendly and supportive. The home is spotless, food and drinks are of good quality. We feel mum is safe and well cared for, her health has improved a great deal. Thank you to the management and wonderful staff at Rose Lodge on behalf of mum and family.

My Mam has settled well in Rose Lodge Care Home and gets on very well with all the care staff. She is well looked after and I am kept fully informed at all times. Staff are respectful, caring and always helpful. My only concern is that the care home has been unable to appoint an activities co-ordinator
for nearly 12 months now. It is important that one is appointed soon as residence enjoy doing different activities.

Reply from Nicola Wheatley, Home Manager at Rose Lodge Care Home

Thank you for your comments on Rose Lodge. We would like to address your concerns regarding the Activities Coordinator vacancy. There were 7 months, from the end of June 2015 until February 2016, without a full time Activities Coordinator in post. During the time there was a part-time Activities Coordinator from a sister care home who visited regularly for activities with residents, as well as planning activities and entertainment for when she was not on site.

The role of Activities Coordinator is an important one and we need to be careful that the right person is chosen. Passion, enthusiasm and an innovative approach to providing meaningful activities, entertainment and events for our residents are a prerequisite.

We are delighted to say that as of 15th February 2016 we appointed a full time Activities Coordinator, who is working alongside the residents and relatives to continue, as well as develop, the activities programme in Rose Lodge.

My father has been a resident at Rose Lodge. He has Alzheimer's. I have visited on hundreds of occasions over the last two years and I think that the care home is lovely. The staff are so friendly and professional. They treat the residents and guests with dignity and respect. In my fathers case, they
always seem to have time to talk with him, give him a reassuring hug or make him a cup of tea. They shower him, despite his reluctance (his personal hygiene standards dropped before he moved to Rose Lodge) and they keep him safe and comfortable. The cleaning and laundry service around the home is great and the food looks nice. Overall, there is a lovely, welcoming atmosphere at Rose Lodge. Thanks to the staff, who, in my opinion are fantastic people.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.300)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.300) out of 10 for Rose Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.952 for Rose Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.952

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.348 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rose Lodge Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.8 = 0.648

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
