The staff at Castlebank are caring and thoughtful towards residents and family. They show respect, have patience, and bring a calm atmosphere. We visit regularly and always feel welcomed and accepted. There is a good choice of food at all mealtimes and tea/coffee/juice with biscuits/cake in between.
Rooms are clean but not all have a toilet. Cannot fault the care they have given my mum.

My mother has been a resident for nearly a year now. In this time she has been treated with such kindness. I cannot find anything to criticise this care home for. The staff go over and above continuously. The food is all home-cooked and superb. The respect shown to all residents is exemplary.

Lovely staff, everyone is very approachable. care of residents is also good. Meals are really good with most things home-cooked. Rooms are clean and comfortable although not all have their own toilet. They allow residents to take some of their own furniture in which is comforting for them. if I could
choose a care home again for my mother, I would make the same choice.

My mother was accepted into the Castle Bank Residential Home in an emergency situation. She had been discharged from hospital a few days prior, which turned out to be somewhat premature.
Her mobility was dreadful, a problem which was dramatically improved by the attention given to her by staff over
a ten day period.
Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive and kept me informed about her progress.
She was surprisingly happy and content, considering her determination to remain in her own home. The treatment she received enabled her to return to that home.
She herself has concluded that she would be happy to return to Castle Bank should this be needed in the future.

My Mum has now been a resident for 2.5 years. The standard of care remains excellent. My mum went through a period of not eating, the staff did everything they could to coax and encourage her. She now has gained weight again and has a much better appetite. The food is all home cooked and the menu choices
great.
I cannot praise the staff enough they treat residents with respect, I am there regularly and am always impressed with the level of care.
The decor is a little dated but that is not a deterrent, the home is clean and provides a great home for the residents.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.314)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.314) out of 10 for Castlebank Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.528 for Castlebank Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (22 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.528

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.786 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Castlebank Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.6 = 0.536

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
