My wife and I have been in The Grange now for a while, and we appreciate all care given by the staff and management. The rooms are very good, and they have accommodated so my wife and I can share a room. They are cleaned very well and daily. I would highly recommend The Grange Care Home and the level
of care given.

My mum has been a resident at The Grange for six weeks. She has flourished since admission and found all of the staff caring and loving towards her. I feel safe knowing that she is being well looked after in a warm and friendly environment. Many thanks, everyone, especially the home manager.

My mother's medication was not logged on her arrival and she was left without her much-needed pain relief for a day. Her name was logged incorrectly. They sent me 2 letters during my mother's time there. Each was addressed to a different person, neither of them me.
Her hygiene/personal care was not
attended to adequately. On one occasion that I am aware of it took 2 hours for my mother to be taken to the toilet after her request.
Residents seemed to be dumped in the reception area rather than being taken to the community lounge.
The whole environment seemed unnecessarily noisy. My mother was very distracted by a constant loud beeping noise outside her room.

I am so sorry that you feel your mom's care fell short of your expectations. It is always our aim to listen to and acknowledge any concerns that our residents or relatives may have.
We actively encourage people to come forward and had you done so at the time; 100% of your concerns would have been looked into. Complaints are dealt with promptly, fairly, and sensitively with due regard to the upset and worry that they can cause to all. However, you chose not to and you have put your concerns into a review after Mom was discharged from The Grange. I have an open-door policy which is published within The Grange Service User guide as well.
I have written to you personally to address some of the comments made as I believe there are some factual inaccuracies within your review.

I visit my wife at The Grange Care Home every day. I can honestly say that she is "champion" looked after by all staff. I would highly recommend The Grange Care Home. All the staff are very caring and kind and treat me as part of the family. I will happily have all the staff look after me, when the
time comes. The manager has an open-door policy, always listens and manages the home very well. I am very thankful to The Grange for all their care.

This review is no reflection of the staff in general, it is more to do with my brother. If he has no dinner it is probably because he is not hungry or doesn't fancy the offering. I had a word with the senior manager about my concerns just this week, to see if my brother is getting dressed properly.
I've had to do this because he thinks he can manage, but he can't. He would rather try and fail. He needs help. He won't ask for help. He is 95 years old.

My husband has been in The Grange for approximately three months. He has settled really well thanks to the staff in the home. He always appears happy and content when we visit him and all the staff are very kind and helpful, which gives the family peace of mind that he is well looked after.

My mother has been at The Grange Care Home for 9 months. After a bit of a bumpy start, I can honestly say I feel safe having her there. I live in Scotland and it's hard having her so far away but the staff and Manager have been brilliant with me. We lost my stepfather recently and the bereavement support
for my mother has been unbelievable, including the patience staff have shown me over the phone. Some days I’ve called twice to check-in to see how she was coping and each time, staff have taken the time to give me a full update on how she is. They've provided 1:1 sessions for her since my stepfather died; real pastoral support, including preparation for the funeral. I've sat in the lobby of the home a few times when staff were getting called in all directions to respond to the needs of residents, to visitors, specialist medical staff and the phone. I've realised the incredible challenges attached to the role of caring for our elderly and vulnerable folk. It is professional, compassionate and well-run.

My mother has been a resident at the Grange for over 5 years. I first selected the Grange amongst other homes because of its cleanliness and the caring attitude that was presented to me. I have not been disappointed. My mother has been well looked after by the caring staff. I think it is relevant that
many of the staff have been there throughout my mothers stay, which would suggest that they find it a good working environment. The last 2 years have been very challenging with covid, but my mother continued to receive good care. Sadly, she has just died but I have to say that the end of life care given to her was excellent and made a difficult time for her and me that much easier. Thanks.

The Grange care home have been amazing with my mother, who has dementia. She is always clean, her medical needs are always tended to and she loves the staff and has a lovely friendship with all of them. I have also noticed the staff keep her active in mind and body. The care home itself is always clean
and tidy. It has been hard during lockdown with no visiting but the staff have always been accomodating with all of the family. I was very apprehensive initially with having to put my mother in a care home as I had never had a grandparent or anyone else in a care home but my worries were quickly eased with all of the care and help that The Grange care home have given us all, as a family. I would highly recommend The Grange care home in Darlington.

Mum has spent a few weeks in respite after Dad was taken into hospital after having a stroke. Mum is enjoying her time there and the carers and manager have been extremely helpful, caring and understanding with both Mum and the family during this very difficult time. Mum is really enjoying the activities
and the staff are really making her feel at home.

My brother-in-law is sensory impaired and has lived in The Grange for three years now. All the staff are marvellous with him and have really taken the time to get to know him. He is very happy there and very well looked after. Staff are all very friendly and caring. We have peace of mind, knowing he

I visited Mother in the care home's lounge for the first time in a year. Today was her Mother's Day; missed it last year! She was happy to hold hands; she loved her card and present, she was the same Mother that I held hands with a year ago. The care staff kept her safe, nursed her back to health when
she was poorly and made it possible for her to hold my hands again. Thank you.

We recently lost my amazing grandad; he really was a cheeky chap. From the moment he went into The Grange Care Home, we, as a family, knew he was truly in the best care. We couldn’t have asked for him to be cared for any better. The last year has been undoubtedly hard for you as a care home, but I can
truly say I felt the carers looked after him as if we was one of their own family, and for us, this has brought such comfort.


As a nurse myself, I know the pressure that goes alongside caring for people during Covid, I have been so impressed with the high-quality standard of care I have seen from your staff, the compassion is evident in all members of the team I have met, this is obviously a vocation not only a job, and that really does show. I really can't put into words how much him being with you in the latter days of his life meant to us as a family, knowing he was surrounded by people who knew him and truly did care for him.


Thank you for continuing to care for my grandma; you are amazing.

It's difficult to do a review when you live so far away, in a time of Covid, but my mum seems to be as happy as she can be given her condition and always tell me on the phone, which has been our main contact over the past year, that she's happy. The staff are usually very nice and helpful, particularly
two ladies. And if I don't get through to a staff member working with Mum, the manager always gets back with all updates on how she's doing.

I will not be able to do a full review of The Grange as since Dad was admitted, I have been unable to come inside, other than the pod. However, I have been especially impressed by the staff who have WhatsApp'd me randomly to chat with Dad. They have been very accommodating when my sister and I have
rung asking for support to contact him too. Also, if we ring asking for someone to go and give Dad support during a confessed episode, they respond quickly. Staff are so willing to go the extra mile and keep families informed and are patient and friendly.

My mother entered The Grange Care Home shortly after Christmas 2020. Within a few weeks, we were in lockdown, and I was unable to visit the home. It is very difficult for me to give an overall assessment, so I can only make a judgement based on that short period of time and my links to the home via
telephone. The home has been very quick to inform me of any problems with my mother, and I am pleased with the care she is receiving.
