My mum lived in Grange Lea for almost 2 and a half years. During this time she was well looked after and cared for by the excellent staff.
The home is small (only 20 places) and is not as modern and spacious as some of the newer purpose-built care homes. But this is a major advantage (in my view)
as the home is cosy and well cared for, ensuring the residents have a more personal place to live.
Many of the staff have worked there for years and take great pride in their job. This shows in the care the residents receive on a daily basis.

My mother has been in Grange Lea Care Home since autumn 2019 as she was unable to take care of herself at home. We had experience of this lovely place in the mid to late 1990s as my nana lived there for some years. Residents are extremely well cared for and we have great confidence in the way the home
is managed and how well the staff look after our mam. There are monthly calendars of activities which are shared with families and regular resident update meetings. They encourage us to give feedback whether positive or negative as they are committed to offering the best possible care. The staff are all passionate about supporting the residents and are all friendly and treat them extremely well. Mam's quality of life is better in Grange Lea as the care and support are 24/7, she is treated with respect and that makes such a difference to the family. Thank you for continuing to support us, we couldn't wish for anything better.

Mum has been made to feel at home since the day she moved in and actually, her mental health improved as a result.
The varied activity calendar helps to stimulate and integrate the residents.
The staff at Grange Lea are all wonderful, upbeat and cheerful and no request is too much trouble. They are
all permanent members of the team (and it is a team!) and as such quickly assess the needs and likes of each resident.
The management is truly caring and appreciates the needs of both the residents and their families.
Having recently experienced other care facilities in the area, in our opinion, there is no comparison and we cannot recommend Grange Lea highly enough. We are very happy that Mum is living there and have great peace of mind in the knowledge that she is safe and well cared for.

After a stay in the hospital, my father arrived in a poor state. As we arrived Deputy Manager came to the car to assist in transferring my father to his room. Tea and cake were brought and the manager reassured us not to worry.
My father needed rest and time to recover. After a few days, he started
to improve. Every member of staff, without exception, treated my father with the utmost care, dignity and professionalism. He is now a new man, full of life and confidence. Grange Lea has worked a miracle through their kindness and dedication.
My father and chef discuss likes, dislikes and healthy eating options. He has gained weight he looks forward to homemade meals that are varied and nutritious. There is always a choice and a glass of wine if he would like it.
Activities are varied. Residents are encouraged to join in. The staff work hard to encourage and engage residents.
To summarise. Grange Lea is a first-class care home. Not flashy or pretentious. Home from home is exactly what it is.

My uncle moved to Grange Lea in June 2020 at the age of 99, he settled in well and was made to feel welcome by all members of staff. He had a room upstairs to start with, but when mobility became an issue they were happy for him to move to a downstairs room. The food is excellent. There are activities
arranged if residents want to join in, but there is no pressure put on them if they do not want to. The staff not only care about the residents but also their relatives. I cannot believe how lucky we are to have found this wonderful place to care for my ageing uncle.
I would certainly recommend this care home to anyone.

My mother has been in Grange Lea for six weeks and although it was difficult for her to make the decision to go into a care home, the staff at Grange Lea have done everything they can to help her settle in. Everyone has been kind, patient, respectful and understanding and have made the effort to get
to know my mother as an individual, with all her likes and dislikes. All of the staff are permanent which means it is easier for my mother to establish relationships with them too.
My mother has been enjoying the food, which is home-cooked every day and the chef does whatever he can to support her wishes and food preferences.
We chose Grange Lea as it is a small family-run home with an excellent reputation in the area and so far it has lived up to expectations. I feel confident my mother is receiving a high standard of care and attention.

My mother has resided at Grange Lea Care Home for over two years, since becoming unable to cope on her own at home.
During her time there we have been impressed by the care, dedication and compassion shown to her by the staff and management. Whilst moving any relative into a care home is never something
that you want to do, Grange Lea has worked hard to ensure that she enjoys good food, is active and still socialises with the other residents.
I would highly recommend Grange Lea to anyone.

For anybody wishing for a caring personal service for their loved ones, Grange Lea fulfils that need.
A home of only 18 residents makes for a friendly environment.
Good care, good food, most important, and a very pleasant setting in the countryside on the outskirts of Ponteland.
I can thoroughly
recommend Grange Lea.

I have enjoyed my week's respite care at Grange Lea Care Home, I was well looked after as I received 24/7 care from trained staff and all aspects of my care were catered for by personal care. All the staff and management have been lovely. I had lovely views of the fields and sheep from my room, activities
were provided daily and I enjoyed the bus trip. The food has been lovely, home-cooked and nutritious - they also catered for my allergies.

My stay at Grange Lea Rest Home Ponteland was a lovely experience from when I came from Hexham Hospital till I left at the end of June. My room was nice with en-suite and a lovely view from the window of the fields nearby, with daily visits from the horses who were there for a runabout. The meals were
nice and wholesome and the menu had great daily choices and the Sunday lunches par excellence. And a little tipple of Sherry enjoyable too
All the staff were excellent helpful and caring, they helped with personal care and anything else that was needed. All in all a very nice stay.

My mother was 94 when she went into Grange Lea. She spent from December 2019 until February 2021 at the home. She died in hospital in mid-February.

In March 2020, the Covid pandemic struck. Before that, we were able to visit at any time and were always welcome. The home made a great effort to keep

the residents entertained with talks and visits. I, myself, attended some of these and they were very good.
Mum's room was pleasant and comfortable with a view over the fields. Mum had left her 96-year-old husband and often missed him. The staff were very understanding about this. He managed to visit her a couple of times before Covid restrictions came into place. At this time, we were able to have window visits, which were frustrating but necessary in order to keep everyone safe.

Management was very good and always willing to talk over a problem. The carers were a nice group of people, doing a good job in what became very difficult circumstances as the year progressed.

My mother stayed at Grange Lea for Respite Care for a period of two weeks. Mum was very well looked after and enjoyed meeting both residents and staff. Mum was given a beautifully redecorated downstairs room which she was able to make homely with a few items she brought with her. In the first week,
Mum was able to enjoy all the activities Grange Lea had on offer, but sadly at the outbreak of coronavirus (Covid-19), the home went into lock down to enable the residents to stay safe and well. The staff throughout Mum’s visit were very caring and nothing was too much trouble for them. As the lock down occurred, the Assistant Manager offered Mum the use of his phone so that family members could video call Mum to give her reassurance that all was well. We, as a family would highly recommend Grange Lea to anyone thinking about a possible stay at a care home and Mum hopes to be able to visit again sometime in the near future. Thank you very much to everyone at Grange Lea.

Personally, I have been very lucky as I have a lovely room which couldn't be nicer; I have been able to bring some of my own furniture into my room which makes it really homely. I don't feel institutionalised as I have been able to continue living independently and being my own person within Grange
Lea.
I am a nutritionist so know good food and the food at Grange Lea is well thought out, contains everything that people need and is very tasty.
The carers are all so caring and kind - I couldn't wish for anything more from them.

Grange Lea is, without doubt, a wonderful Care home. My mother has been living there since January 2019 and is happy in the homely comfortable environment, where she is treated with respect, enjoys tasty nutritious meals and the varied programme of entertainment and activities. More important is the
quality of care that she receives from the dedicated staff - It is exceptional! Staff turnover is very low and most staff have been there for many years. With a maximum of 18 residents, the staff know the residents so well, their needs are met and nothing is too much trouble. My mother says that she wouldn’t get better care anywhere, and I agree. I have no hesitation in recommending Grange Lea.

Grange Lea Care Home is extremely well run with every care taken to make the residents feel comfortable and happy. On entering the Home there is a warmth and friendliness which greets you and it is light and airy with lots of delightfully added new furnishings. The staff are both friendly and professional
and it is a pleasure to visit as a volunteer. I would have no hesitation in recommending Grange Lea Care Home.

A first-rate place to come for recuperation and care. The care staff have been excellent and I will miss them when I go home. My stay here has been a really pleasurable experience, I have been very happy here and have felt secure. I would definitely recommend to anyone who requires respite or permanent
residential care.

I had visited Grange Lea with my grandmother to spend time with one of her friends and we had a lovely time.
We were served afternoon tea on china cups and the home has a nice homely atmosphere.

Placing a relative into care is not an easy process. My mum was able to make this decision herself in August 2017. At the time, Grange Lea was a family run care home, well established within the village. We, as a family, were happy with the level of care there. In March 2019 the home was sold and is
now under new management. It has been very pleasing to note, not only the continuity of care but also the enhancement to standards and professionalism. The new owners/frontline team clearly have a vision, based on their previous experience within the sector and are in the process of modernising the home, giving it a more contemporary feel, introducing new activities for residents and supporting community links. An established and caring team of staff have been retained and are unfailingly supportive in their care of the residents. It has been pleasing to note the ongoing development of Grange Lea and I feel confident that my mother's care is in safe hands.

My mum has been a resident at Grange Lea for 3years. She is very happy here. It is homely and cosy as well as being recently modernised and decorated. There are only 18 resident rooms so carers and residents know each other well. Staff turnover is virtually nil. I consider them all as friends. There
is a good range of activities. E.g. crafts, visiting nursery children, singers, pets as therapy greyhounds, talks on local history and outings to the coast. Residents are encouraged to have meals in the dining room together but can be served in their own room if required. I have joined my mum for lunch a few times and the food is very tasty, wholesome and nicely served by the staff.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.654)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.654) out of 10 for Grange Lea Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.854 for Grange Lea Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.854

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Grange Lea Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
