My mother stayed for respite before Christmas last year, she suffered from dementia which could be challenging but the staff were great with her. She helped decorate the Christmas tree, we saw some lovely pictures of her doing this and that’s exactly what mam needed to take her mind off things that
gave her stress. I follow Heatherdale online because I love to see all the activities they do with the residents and to me, they always look so happy, it is a great care home.

My mother has been in Heatherdale since October 21 and is still there, in my own personal opinion it is a spotlessly clean home.
The staff are second to none very friendly always upbeat, always doing activities and my Mother often comments on the nice food. It’s a very good home.

Heatherdale care home is a beautiful, cosy and has a very high standard of cleanliness, excellent food and care. The staff are wonderful, very caring and supportive. I am very happy and have peace of mind that my parents are very well looked after by the team. There is always lots of activities going
on in the home e.g Tia chi, bingo, crafts, karaoke, baking, birthday parties for the residents and days out visiting the coastline. When I visit my mam she always says "I love being here it is like just being at home and being able to visit her husband who lives at the other end of the home when I want". With my mam having Alzheimer's dementia she was unable to look after him at her home. The staff are fantastic, when she is having a bad day the team will always care and support her and make her laugh which really cheers her up. A huge congratulations to the manageress To the manager, you should be so very proud of your amazing team of staff at Heatherdale.

Our mum was a resident of Heatherdale for over two years, an environment that she said she would never like to be in. But arriving at Heatherdale she quickly adapted and had so much praise for the care home. The rooms are a good size and very clean, the staff are very helpful and at times go out of
their way to help you. Over the years my mum enjoyed every little bit of it, she liked the friendly atmosphere and the jam-packed activities programme which goes on every day. Speaking with my friends and family seeing what goes on daily makes us laugh when seeing the Facebook page. I cannot fault the staff they are all amazing. The gardens are beautiful and well kept a place to meet and reflect. I would like to thank all staff for helping our family through a difficult time during and after Mum's last week of her life at Heatherdale. (A home from home). Thank you.

My sister needed care and after carefully checking various homes decided on Heatherdale where I found all the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly. As she has become frailer I feel happy to know that she is safe and secure under their competent shawl of protection and care.

The family are very grateful to all the wonderful staff at Heatherdale who seem extremely dedicated to their jobs. We are all coping with massive changes in our lives during these difficult times of COVID and, more so, the staff working in care homes. It is very reassuring to know the staff at Heatherdale
in the face of adversity are always lively and cheerful. When you ring and hear a friendly voice at the end of the phone, it is very reassuring. When it was possible to visit, briefly in the new pod, or if you dropped something off, you are always greeted with lots of smiles, and this speaks volumes when it is not possible to go inside. Our Mams clothes are beautifully laundered, and this makes you feel the standards are high in all they do. We wish things were different, as everyone does so that we could visit our Mum in the care home but know they have everyone’s interest at heart to keep all the residents and staff safe and are doing an outstanding job.

Mum was admitted to Heatherdale in April as her health (Alzheimer’s) deteriorated in lockdown. The manager and her team found a way to admit Mum safely and have since worked extremely hard and very effectively in helping her to settle in. The kindness and attention to Mum’s individual needs has been
very evident from day one. She is physically very well cared for: hair done even though the hairdresser can’t visit at the moment, nails done, nicely dressed in clean (spills are frequent) and beautifully ironed clothes. Tasks have been created for her to help Mum feel useful. These have been carefully planned to reflect Mum’s past interests and hobbies. Mum enjoys the group activities on offer and this is all communicated through photos on the home’s Facebook page. Of course, I’m looking forward to being able to visit properly and to get to know Heatherdale, it’s residents and staff much better but I will never forget how they have made Mum safe and secure in lockdown. Highly recommended.

This month I have completed what has been my third brief respite stay at Heatherdale whilst my husband (who is also my carer) went into hospital for another planned cardiac procedure.
Yet again I was made to feel extremely welcome by very friendly and dedicated staff. My family members and visitors
were also warmly received. As always, the standard of care was excellent and my specific needs were met in full. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending Heatherdale to others. It must be one of the best care homes in the North East.

My grandmother became unwell. The staff acted quickly and worked to a high standard to ensure my gran got the correct help and support she was needing. The staff were brilliant with myself and family, I felt reassured at this difficult time.
I would highly recommend this care home. I have worked in
care homes myself for eight years and this is by far the best I have seen. I wouldn't have my gran anywhere else. Such a supportive team.

My Mum spent the last year of her life at Heatherdale and was extremely happy here. She knew no one when she moved to Northumberland and was welcomed into the community at the home by the carers and other staff. She had only good words to say about all the staff and knowing that she was happy made
my life so much easier. Mum was always a keen gardener and being able to sit outside during the summer months and look at the lovely garden was so important, her actual words to me, one day last summer were 'this is heaven'.
The staff seem to be always happy and have time for relatives and visitors. I would have no hesitation in recommending Heatherdale to others.

Heatherdale is a lovely place, it’s set in nice grounds and is well maintained and very homely and welcoming when you go. The staff are absolutely brilliant, nothing is ever too much trouble for them when they look after my Mother in Law or when looking after me as well. The staff really care about
the Residents and make sure their needs are always met, there are lots of activities, which are appropriate for everyone whatever their ability. The Staff go over and above in providing excellent care and even make sure specific needs are met and likes and dislikes recorded and most important actioned. When there are any health issues these are dealt with immediately. If you are looking for a Care home this is the best you could wish for, absolutely fantastic. Thank you, for making the transition from home to residential care as easy as possible for all parties.

Mum became a resident in July 2018 following a stay in a hospital. My first visit was an unbooked drop in but the staff were welcoming and happy to talk to me / show me around. Originally her stay was possibly short term however she was happy, settled and quickly saw it as ‘home’ - she was more than
happy to stay! Mum was always happy to talk about the activities (especially the singing) and how friendly the staff were. The atmosphere is lovely and always happy (a home from home) - there was never a day mum did not enjoy being there. All of the staff are friendly and happy to chat. Even when her situation changed and her needs increased the staff cared for her with respect and dignity. When it became clear Mum’s care was palliative her needs (and her family’s) were fully met - we can’t thank them enough.

Few places match Heatherdale’s standards of care, compassion and kindness. My father is happy and settled in a safe and loving environment. As his care needs have increased, staff have worked tirelessly to meet them. The way staff support and relate to residents is exemplary. A professional team who
go the extra mile, they care about what they do and how they do it.


The building itself is clean and homely, the rooms are spotless and the lovely garden is expertly tended. The whole environment is calm, appealing and welcoming.


The comforting daily routines and structures at Heatherdale run smoothly. An inclusive programme of activities and entertainment is of real value to residents as is the way staff involve them in celebrating or commemorating special occasions and significant events across the year. There is warmth, laughter and fun between staff and residents and visitors are always welcome. Heatherdale is like one big family - the nearest you’ll come to finding home from home.

My mother lived with this care provider for the last six years of her life. During that time, both her physical and mental health deteriorated. She became increasingly confused and forgetful with dementia and less physically able. Throughout that time the staff team cared for my mother with sensitivity
and compassion. She was very happy and relaxed in their care, with total trust in all the team. We have shared as a family, lots of happy memories with the care providers: her 90th birthday party, Christmas times and special events to name a few. We will always be grateful for their care and concern.

Allison Moore

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2004

Having worked at Heatherdale for 20 years, Allison’s journey with Wellburn Care Homes started in 2003 when she joined Heatherdale as a Care Assistant. In 2006, Allison was promoted to Team Leader before working her way up to management, becoming Home Manager of Heatherdale in 2008. Allison finds the job very rewarding and enjoys the diversity of the role as no two days are the same.
