Sandford is a beautiful Care Home situated just a few hundred meters away from the local shops and amenities of Prestatyn town Centre. The Care Home is ideally placed boasting some beautiful views of the both the Irish Sea and the beach to the front of the building and, to the back of the building there are stunning views of Gwaenysgor Hill.

The residential unit within the Care Home is totally purpose-built, with exceptionally large and spacious bedrooms furnished to very high standards, every room is fully en-suite with a walk-in wet room, toilet and washbasin. There is a tastefully decorated communal lounge and dining area and a lift to get between floors. There is a communal bathroom available with electronic bath hoists to support those with mobility problems to access the bathing facilities.

The residential dementia unit is a part of the original house and, each bedroom is spacious and has a washbasin and is fully furnished to a very high standard. Some of the bedrooms on the residential dementia unit have their own access into the spacious and secure sensory garden area which leads off of the large communal lounge and, there is a beautiful dining area. There are several communal bathrooms again equipped with bathing, showering and toileting facilities. The residential dementia unit is very dementia friendly with coloured doors, dementia signs and coloured handrails and toilet seats etc. In addition to this, there is an additional ‘quiet’ seating area away from the main communal lounge with an outdoor park theme. There is also a lift for residents to easily move between floors.

They use a state-of-the-art Care Planning Technology to aid them in providing tailor-made care that is individualised to the needs, wishes and preferences of each resident. They have an activities co-ordinator who is able to cater for the individual interests and abilities of residents.

Sandford has been truly exceptional, and I can’t thank them enough. The rooms in Sandford are lovely. The home itself is modern, cosy and traditional. It is clean and never smells. The food was really good - she was so fussy at home, but suddenly was eating full meals and looked so much better. The
chef is really good, but also really cares and mingles with the residents. Her hair was done. She felt like she was on holiday. They put on entertainment and events, and she didn’t miss her home, even though initially she was refusing to leave. But the main thing was all of the staff. They treated my nana with real love. They went in to see her on their days off, came in early to see her before their shift, there were 8-people with her when she passed away; they stroked her hair and spoke to her with real love. The manager is leading a fantastic team, and as a family, we were so grateful to them - when we couldn’t be there, she was still loved and cared for better than we could have done ourselves. Thank you.

Mum joined Sandford after a respite stay in another home. Despite the other home looking "smarter" in terms of decor, Sandford is by far the best place for Mum. The care, individual attention, activities and overall ambience are excellent. The manager has been a revolution, and we couldn't be happier
with the level of care. Despite not wanting to live in a care home, Mum is so happy and that makes me happy and relieved.

I cannot praise the staff at Sandford enough for all the care and compassion they showed my dad during his short stay with them. Dad became a resident at the most difficult of times, he was palliative for bowel cancer and had advanced dementia along with very poor eyesight. Added to all this he joined
Sandford at the onset of the Covid pandemic.
Though mum couldn't visit inside the home the staff would bring him to the window so that he and mum could chat and blow the odd kiss to one another. This meant a lot to mum.
When dad's time came, the staff at Sandford ensured that he was kept comfortable and made sure that mum and I knew that we could ring at any time day or night just to check on him. This provided me with some comfort being that I was 5hr hours away. It never felt like it was a problem that we were calling.
So, on a final note, I would just like to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you and to wish the very best. Take care you lovely people x

My dad has been a resident of Sandford since March 2019. and my family and I would highly recommend the care home. The staff are very caring and have a lovely relationship with both the residents and their families. The home provides a variety of activities for residents to participate in such as various
crafts, baking, gardening, armchair darts and putting golf. They also provide events throughout the year such as a Halloween party, various activities and parties over the Christmas period, and numerous other occasions such as the VE day celebrations - all of which my dad really enjoys participating in. I look forward to seeing their Facebook posts to see what has been going on and the fun the residents have, making their Tik Tok videos. We feel so thankful that we picked such a lovely place for my dad to stay and never more so than now during the Covid-19 pandemic when we know he is safe and cared for so well.

My mother had been a resident for 2-years and had the greatest of care. The end of July she became ill, was in hospital then sent back to Sandford, she then became very ill and decided enough was enough. The final days of her care were some of the most professional and caring I have seen. She passed
away in the calm homely manner with her family and friends including staff with her. Not only her needs were provided, but mine were too, they gave me a place to sleep and they kept me fed, watered and time with my mother after she had passed.

My mother has been at Sandford for 2 years and has received excellent care. She has a variety of problems and reacts well to the staff who are always caring.
We are always contacted very quickly when she has had a fall.
She is happy and comments favourably about the food. Due to her poor hearing and
eyesight, she finds it difficult to enter into all the activities.

This was a temporary visit for our mum as re-enablement to end up back at home independently. The staff are most welcoming friendly and helpful, can't fault them. Treated mum with the utmost care and dignity. As a family, this was a perfect stop-gap on Mum's journey from hospital to home. Highly recommend.

Although some interesting activities are offered to residents, many feel unable to take part because there is no toilet on the ground floor and they are worried that they could not get back to their rooms quickly enough if they need one.
It would make a huge difference if residents had access to a
toilet on the ground floor. Perhaps they would attend the activities and everyone would benefit from more participation.

Staff are very caring. The home has a happy atmosphere. The staff engage with the residents and encourage activities as far as possible. The fabric of the home is being constantly upgraded, redecorated and improved. My wife died three years ago, so I became NOK to my mother-in-law (resident) - since
then the staff have been so helpful to me too, eg. advise me on care plans, do shopping for the correct type of clothes etc.

The staff are always friendly and they treat the residents with respect. I've seen the meals they give them and can't fault them. My wife is very happy there and that is good enough for me. The staff are always friendly when I visit, the place has a good atmosphere.

I find the staff very caring and efficient. However, at the moment, the manager is off sick long term and there has been no continuity for quite some time. However, the deputy manager is extremely efficient and knowledgeable about the procedures and the residents themselves.

My mother has been in your care for nearly 12 months. It started as short-term care while her fracture/dislocation of her shoulder healed but due to the care she has received, she decided to make this a permanent arrangement. The care she has received has been wonderful and as I live 200 miles away
the peace of mind that this gives me is worth the money alone. Thank you.

The Dementia unit at Sandford is quite rundown and needs some investment to bring it up to standard. The care staff are welcoming and speak to residents with respect and kindness but regrettably, we found that it did not meet our expectations in providing specialist dementia care for our mum.

Pearlcare prides itself on providing the highest standard of care at Sandford Care Home. This is evidenced by the many excellent reviews on Care Homes website and contained within the last local authority inspection report, which notably took place at the time this review was submitted and directly contradicts the content of this review.
Despite all attempts made, Pearlcare were unable to resolve complaints raised by a family member, during a short 4 week respite period for her parent, and are disappointed with this review.

We find the carers first class, they are kind and efficient even when they are busy. They treat the residents with respect and dignity and are always available for the resident's families when needed. The management have done so well recently in bringing the home up to a high standard. I believe the
resident's rooms are on the agenda which would be nice as they are slightly dated, but we have no complaints as this is a small price to pay for our family member feeling safe and secure in a friendly environment.

Sean

Job Title: Care Home Manager

Sean has over 14 years of experience in the care industry working in an array of settings including Nursing, Residential, Early Onset Dementia, YPD, End of Life and Elderly Care. Sean has a real passion for working with people and ensuring the provision of the best quality and standards of person-centred care are delivered.


Sean holds three level 5 qualifications; NVQ L5 Management in Health and Social Care, NVQ L5 Leadership and Management and, NVQ L5 Assistant Practitioner.


Sean started his career in care as a Health Care Assistant in St Helens, Merseyside where he learned the foundations of his role. Sean then worked his way to become a Senior Care Assistant, Residential Unit Manager and then, Nursing Unit Manager before later working as a Care Quality Monitoring Manager whereby he was responsible for monitoring the overall quality and standards of care delivery.


Sean began his career within the Pearlcare Group as the Care Home Manager of Wellfield Residential Care Home, Hawarden in May 2019. Sean became the Care Home Manager of Sandford Care Home in August 2020 and is extremely excited and privileged to have the opportunity to lead and manage his second Care Home within the Pearlcare Group.

Nicola has a wealth of experience and knowledge within Health and Social Care with over 20 years of experience within the sector. She is passionate about people and equally as passionate about delivering high standards of both dementia and residential care.


Nicola began working at Sandford back in July 2020 initially as a Senior Care Assistant. Nicola was then promoted to Deputy Home Manager in June 2021 and has supported upholding the company's high standards and expectations.
