Staff have been very welcoming. They have allowed me to have Sky TV in my bedroom so I can watch what I want. The experience so far has been enjoyable and welcoming.

As a family we could not ask for more, Mum is so well cared for - Bryn Eithin isn't just a place for her to live, it is her home where she is safe, warm, clean and really well fed by staff who care. All the staff go the extra mile to make sure every resident is made to feel special. All we hear about
care homes is negative comments, but this care home is so very special. Mum has been in Bryn Eithin for a year now and all our concerns over her safety before she went into Bryn Eithin have vanished - it is a truly lovely place.

The staff are friendly, helpful and attentive and hard working which I consider to be the most important aspect of any care home. My mother is treated with compassion, dignity and they are very empathetic towards her condition. The food is nice as are the drinks (tea and coffee is readily available
when requested). The managerial staff are also very helpful and nice and were fine about us installing a sky box in the home. The facilities are clean and the rooms are spacious and overall the value for money is undeniable. I would without a doubt recommend Bryn Eithin to a friend.

My sister was very unhappy living alone, her memory was failing, since being at Bryn Eithin she is a new woman she has company activities and wonderful meals all the staff are kind and they will spend time with each resident. Families are always welcomed and often have a meal with their relatives. An
excellent choice of home.

The staff were very good at their job and helpful.
- My room was very nice and spacious but as recently decorated it smelt of paint.
- Meal times not ideal - especially evening meal at 3.45, too early.
- For my condition, the other residents seemed much older and more incapacitated - therefore not
ideal company.
- There were very limited social activities and no outings - because of condition of many of the residents who preferred to sleep in the lounge.
- Lack of any more lounges.

Reply from Susan Hanson, Manager at Bryn Eithin Hall Residential Care Home

We are sorry that on this occasion, the respite stay was not a fully enjoyable experience. I would like to respond to some of the comments, to help clarify. Our evening meal time is always at 4.45pm and never at 3.45pm, as commented. The residents range in ages with varying health. Our main meal of the day is served at 12.45pm, where a resident afterwards might choose to enjoy a short nap in an area of the home of their choosing. Our activities, whilst we try to please everyone, if a resident chooses not to take part or not to make use of the other seating area, we have to accept their choice and opinions. Our priority is for residents to feel that this is their home at all times, whether the stay is long term or respite and able to make their own decisions. Our apologies again and will also use this information as part of our own review process.

From my first meeting with the home manager, through delivering my 95 year old mother and settling her in, to speaking with various staff members and finally getting my mother's opinion/verdict. I have been thoroughly impressed with the professionalism, friendliness and caring attitude that Bryn Eithin
offers. It was my mother's first experience of respite care and she and I are happy to think it will not be the last.Full marks to all the staff.

The understanding regarding my extra care needed now I find it more difficult to walk around on my own. I now need to use a walking frame and need more help with personal care. It all takes extra time and I don't always understand why I need help, so the patience here is very good. Everyone is very
kind.

My wife had been in residence at Bryn Eithin Hall for 4 weeks, during this period she has received outstanding care and attention from all the staff, 1st class accommodation and friendly people, the food has excelled. If she has a relapse i would be very happy for her to come back for future care, i
would be very pleased for her to come here. A good homely atmosphere all around.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.743)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.743) out of 10 for Bryn Eithin Hall Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.843 for Bryn Eithin Hall Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (91 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.843

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bryn Eithin Hall Residential Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
