Coed Mor is a 19-bedded residential home in the charming market town of Abergele. The home is close to all local amenities such as the library, supermarket, park, Pensarn beach and an array of cafes and tea houses. The home consists of 18 large bedrooms 6 of which are en-suite.

The home can provide care for male and female residents over the age of 50 years with physical and psychological care needs. The management team has a strong background in care and medicine and actively encourage and support those in their care to exercise as much choice and make as many decisions for themselves as possible regarding their lives, thereby contributing to their autonomy and fulfilment in life.

They are proud of their Welsh tradition and aim to provide the medium of the Welsh language. They have a few members of staff who are fluent in Welsh and are able to converse with residents in their chosen language.

Residents have access to a number of different external healthcare professionals such as GPs, District nurses, dentists, opticians, chiropodists, physiotherapists, occupational health therapists etc. to ensure the client is kept in the best possible health.

Menus will be varied, favourite dishes and special diets will be catered for. Residents are encouraged to eat in the dining room but may eat in their own rooms or lounges if this is their choice. Staff regularly review with the clients at 6 monthly resident meetings any changes they wish to make to the menu. The home has a 5-star food hygiene rating.

The home policy on ‘therapeutic activities’ takes into account the clients' interests, skills, experiences, personalities, medical conditions and dependency requirements. They are always looking for different ways they can keep clients entertained.

I want to thank the staff for all the kindness, care and love they give my mum. I enjoy joining in with the activities, there's always something going on, and we're always welcome too! I see my mum every day, I can come whenever and be with mum, the staff make me feel so welcome it has a family feel.
I feel lucky my mum is in Coed Mor. The home is always improving, thank you!

My dad has been treated like a prisoner since he was put in there for 4 weeks on the 7/5/24 while the housing association completed some work on my brothers and dad's bungalow, even though the work was completed by the 7/6/24 they still refused to let him return to his bungalow. The woman from social
services will not answer the phone or return calls when my brother calls to see why our dad is still being kept like a prisoner.
When I went to the home on the 27/12/24 to arrange to collect Dad on the 28/12/24 to take him to my home for a meal as it is my birthday I was told to call the home manager when she returned to the home at 2pm but every time I have called I only get the answering machine. Every time my brother and myself went to see him they would be listening outside the door, especially the home manager and we are still not allowed to see him in private.

Dear Paul, I am sorry to hear you felt like this and hope this was adequately resolved for you. The staff really enjoy looking after your dad and providing him with the care he deserves. He thoroughly enjoys taking part in activities in the home and socialising with others. I am sorry to hear that you could not get hold of the social services team from the council and hope they could provide you with further support.

Mum has been a resident for nearly three years. Could not ask for better care for her. All the staff are wonderful, treat Mum with great care and dignity, always very friendly towards both Mum and myself, nothing is too much trouble. I am always kept updated about her health and any care she needs.
Mum herself says she is very well fed, very well cared for and she is very happy. Thank you to all the staff, especially during a very difficult eighteen months, for keeping her so well looked after and safe.

Current Review Score: 6.6 (6.555)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.6 (6.555) out of 10 for Coed Mor Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.292 for Coed Mor Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 3.292

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.263 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Coed Mor Residential Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 3.8 = 0.263

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
