Since last year there has been an improvement. The staff and management have worked really hard in giving us all enterprise that we are really proud of and there is more to come! Now that we have a full time activities member we will be looking towards improving this side of things.

I moved into Fairhaven a few months ago and did not know what to expect. I found the staff to be kind and supportive, and the management very helpful. They sorted out my hearing after getting me appointments in the local surgery to remove grease which had accumulated over two years. I found out that
I had hearing difficulties and I'm waiting for appointments for tests. I also started to walk after two years of not moving at all. The food is excellent and a good choice. I'm looking forward for the first time in many years.

I found this home a caring place with helpful staff, they look after mum very well. They normally inform me if anything happens but a couple of times this hasn't been so, whether it was because of new staff or not a severe situation which I understand. Hopefully, if it were severe, I would be informed
quickly and fully. Recent renovations have been needed and have brightened up the home, though there are still more that are needed and I hope to see these sorted soon - as mentioned, they are due to be done.

It would be good if the residents could have a television in their own rooms.
I live in Ireland so I don't get to see my dad very often so I rely on the staff giving me feed- back when I ring the home which they always do.
When I ring they take the phone to dad so that we can have a chat.

My mother came to Fairhaven on an emergency placement for a few weeks as she was unable to manage on her own at home after a stay in hospital. The manager and her staff were always kind and caring towards my mother, encouraging her to become more independent and helping her to rebuild her confidence.
She spent Christmas at Fairhaven and my brother was invited to join everyone for Christmas lunch which was very thoughtful and meant a great deal to Mum. Staff were always available to talk to family members and any concerns were swiftly sorted.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.877)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.877) out of 10 for Fairhaven Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.896 for Fairhaven Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.896

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.981 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fairhaven Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.6 = 0.606

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
