The seaside town of Rhyl is five minutes by car, just over the blue bridge. They have a new Premier Inn hotel with a lovely restaurant called The Cook House. Rhyl also boasts the Pavilion Theatre where lots of live entertainment and shows take place.

This home is excellent. The staff are lovely, well mannered and always have time to spend with you if you ever have any questions.
If I could rate the home more than excellent, I would!

My aunt has been at Kinmel Lodge for 12 months and has settled well. She gets on well with the staff and tells me she is happy. They know her well and are able to identify when she needs checks for UTI chest infection etc which reassures us as a family. Again whilst my aunt wouldn't want to be on Facebook
etc it is lovely to receive photos of her enjoying the activities.

The home offers a friendly atmosphere. The staff are extremely good with the clients. Freshly cooked meals every day. The home is very clean throughout. I am regularly updated on my mum's condition and wellbeing. I have no concerns regarding my mums care what so ever, whilst I carry on with my life,
as I know she is very well cared for. Would highly recommend this home.

The staff at the home manage to look after my mother extremely well. Even though she often develops difficult behaviour, I have no worries about her care when I leave after visiting.

The home suits my father down to earth approach to life. It is a home from home. He is well fed, looked after and fairly free to do what he can under the circumstances but the home ensure his safety, care and wellbeing are paramount following his care plan. It appears at times new staff come in but
all very quick to learn.

My Aunty moved into Kinmel Lodge during the last week of November and felt at "home" straight away. All the staff have been very helpful and professional in settling her in and have made her extremely welcome into the Kinmel "family".
All the staff are patient and organised in running the residence
and have created a family home atmosphere, which is relaxing for the residents and reassuring to their families.
They have involved my Aunt in many activities to date, making her day interesting and enjoyable for her and you can see her improved happiness in her face, although she can't tell me about it as she suffers with a memory condition.
There is currently a refurbishment program being undertaken to raise the standards of decor and comfort of the guests, which is being rolled out with minimal disturbance but you can see how bright, warm and welcoming it is.

I was amazed with the development of work done at the home from when my father in law arrived. We can see the potential for the finished work. The carers and manager are working with great empathy for families and clients.

This is an outstanding care home. My dad is here and says to the family how excellent the girls are. My dad is very happy at Kinmel Lodge. The care from the staff is fantastic. The staff interact with the patients all the time. Since the new management has taken over, the home has gone from strength
to strength and you can see the patients are happier and more talkative. The interaction is great.

Since the arrival of the new manager the home has been totally transformed, the staff and residents are so much happier and the atmosphere has changed for the better. With the home being re-furnished, the home is brighter and lighter, more activities have been provided and the garden will be so much
better for the residents and visiting guests in the summer. I would have no hesitation at recommending this establishment to anyone looking for care in a good place.

With new management, we've noticed a big improvement all around in the home and staff. Still room for improvement in which there still is more to be done. This review would be more on good scores if carried out again in 12 months.

I care for my wife who has dementia and I take her to Kinmel Lodge two days a week for respite. When we arrive the staff are very friendly and helpful.
I was recently in the hospital for an operation and my wife had to go into respite for two and a half weeks. She was well looked after and I am very
satisfied with the care she gets.

Kinmel Lodge has improved greatly over the past few months: new windows, furniture and door. All the staff are lovely and treat all the residents with great care and dignity. The food is excellent with choices at each meal. The home itself is clean and pleasant.

My father resided at Kinmel Lodge for 8 months. He was a lot happier there than at home, as he was less restricted, whilst being safe.
He loved all the staff, especially one member of staff who would have a dance with him in the lounge.
I always found the staff to be helpful and cheerful and the residents
were treated with respect. It is a homely care home and was always clean. Dad lived in Sutton Coldfield all his life, he had respite at the home whilst staying with my sister in Abergele, so that I could have a rest. When Dads dementia worsened and we discussed with him the options, he said could he please go to the care home by the sea (Kinmel lodge) and the rest is history. We lost Dad in April 2018, he was 91 years old and it gives me comfort that his last days, apart from his health, seemed happy.
Thank you, everyone, at Kinmel Lodge for me and my sister's peace of mind during his last months. God bless you.

I was dragged along to Kinmel Lodge after facing the horrible truth that I could no longer give my uncle the care he deserved and needed.

I was totally against care homes as I had the misconception that they are cold and clinical.

On my very first meeting with Kinmel Lodge my fears and misconceptions

were thrown out the window. They have gone above and beyond to provide a personal environment where my uncle not only feels just as happy as he was at home but most importantly he is safe.

I live quite far away but made the decision to place him here as it was simply the only care home I felt I could trust. With the Internet cafe and the staff teaching him how to use the Internet I am able to Skype him on a regular basis so I feel reassured that he's happy at all times.

This is just one of the many ways Kinmel Lodge is set apart from other homes as they make sure contact with family is always available.

Kinmel Lodge have clearly worked hard to find care assistants that see their role as a vocation rather than just a job and this clearly shows as they take time to get to know residents on a personal but professional level.

The staff not only do an amazing job caring for my uncle but they are always there if I have any concerns or just need reassurance that he's got everything he needs.

Thanks to all people at Kinmel Lodge you have made this difficult time much easier.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.519)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.519) out of 10 for Kinmel Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.719 for Kinmel Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.719

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kinmel Lodge is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
