My Mother in Law has been a resident here for several years. As a family, we are very happy with the care she receives. Staff are very patient and caring of all needs, including Mum's needs as a Welsh speaker. The whole community of the home has a Christian ethos about it and we cannot speak too highly
of the management and staff. The quality of food is worthy of a mention.

My sister has been a resident at Llys Newydd for the past 6 weeks and during this time I have been very happy with the care and support provided to both her and our family. I cannot praise the staff enough. They treat my sister and us with the greatest of respect at all times

On a positive: the staff are very friendly and always willing to help if I have any issues with my mum. All areas are kept clean and tidy. My mum is registered deaf and blind but despite this staff are keen to get my mum involved in the daily activities and entertainment which she seems to enjoy. I
attended an event recently and was very impressed with its organisation giving families the opportunity to have a fun time together.
On a negative: More attention needs to be given to residents visiting the toilet. Some people clearly struggle with this putting risk on good hygiene requirements. It is my opinion that staff should have more interaction with residents throughout the day not just during daily activities. Quiet residents can be left on their own for several hours and could be suffering in silence.

We work hard to ensure the happiness and wellbeing of our residents, which includes organising events at the home for their enjoyment. I am glad you found a recent event to have afforded you quality family time with your loved one. Please be assured with regard to toileting support requirements, every resident has an individual care plan detailing their own support needs, preferences, personal hygiene and continence needs. These are reviewed monthly in consultation with residents or more often if required, and colleagues endeavour to work to these plans daily. Please accept our apology that you felt some residents were not attended to in a timely manner when you visited; we will review how we facilitate events in future to ensure this does not become a concern again.

There could be more staff as at present there is not enough to see to every need of the residents. I am up there every day visiting my husband so I can see what is needed.

In my experience I find Llys Newydd to be a very homely environment for the residents. The staff are very pleasant, conscientious and hardworking. They always put the needs of the residents to the fore. There are plenty of activities taking place from Monday to Friday to ensure the residents are stimulated.

AS a family, we had an initial 2-month experience at Llys Newydd Care Home. Everyone and I mean everyone has been wonderful in their attitude and compassion to both my mother as a resident plus the emotional support to my father and me as regular visitors during their tough time. Llys Newydd Care Home
has obviously set high standards for her tenure and it is apparent that all have adopted this and are singing from the same song sheet. Thoroughly recommended and well deserved.

The staff are all extremely helpful and kind at all times, cool, calm and collected during a crisis. I know my mother is in safe hands and at 90 years of age is comfortable and as contented as is possible given her dementia.

My parents stayed here for a week while I was abroad and could not return quickly if needed. They had excellent care and especially commented on how friendly and attentive the staff were to them both. They enjoyed the regular meals and had a lovely double en-suite room. I would recommend Llys Newydd

Staff are amazing, should be treasured. Everyone caring and patient personified rooms have had a makeover much fresher. If my mother hadn't come to Llys Newydd Care Home I doubt she would have survived.

Every time I go to see my husband I find all the staff are so very kind and show great care to the residents.

He seems to have no problems in going and sleeping there. All the staff welcome him immediately by name and lots of smiles. I would appreciate a bit more attention to showers. Other than that, it seems excellent.

At every HC one home, we encourage all permanent and respite residents to follow good personal hygiene routines and we support and assist where necessary, in some cases residents decline or become distressed and in these cases, we can not force them to bathe or wash. If this is an issue on more than one occasion we review this with the NOK to ensure good continuity of care and more experienced staff members are assigned to the residents care in the hope moving forward a personal hygiene plan can be put in place that the resident is happy with.

My mother was a resident at Llys Newydd Care Home. In July she became unwell and over a week deteriorated. I cannot express how amazing the staff were during this time. My mother was given such care and attention by all. We were with my mother for four days until she died. During this time we were
treated with such respect and given so much support. I cannot express our gratitude as a family to the team at Llys Newydd. We will not forget their kindness to us but more importantly the kindness, respect and care shown to my mother during this time

The staff are friendly and helpful, have treated my aunt with dignity and respect.

Introducing Catrin Hooper
Home Manager at Llys Newydd, Capel Hendre


What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?
“For me, kind care is treating each person with kindness in everything you do every day”


As a dedicated care professional who has worked within the learning disability and elderly care sector for over 20 years, Catrin has gained a wealth of experience in providing support to people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Catrin closely shares HC-One’s vision is aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Llys Newydd. When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Catrin remarked: “Making a difference in Residents' lives in their twilight years”


Outside of work, Catrin enjoys spending quality time with her family and three dogs; a Collie called Poppy, a Cocker Spaniel called Sionny and a Black Labrador called Steve.
