My father has now been in the home for about 4 weeks, I cannot thank the staff at Llys Cyncoed enough for their support and commitment to ensuring my father has settled in so quickly. The team at Llys Cyncoed are all super friendly, attentive and very personable. My father is treated with great respect,
everyone knows his name and they treat him as if he has been here for years.
The home has recently been refurbished and looks really clean and tidy, it is also very welcoming where nothing is too much trouble, from the moment you walk through the door you get the feeling of a very relaxed friendly environment. I want also to call out DCR, from our first meeting she made the family feel very welcome, has given our father the attention he has needed and is a friendly and welcoming face every time you meet her.

I was extremely surprised at the presentation of the display. Everything was so neat and tidy and well presented and clean and very attractive. The residents are fairly friendly but stay in their group.

My wife has been a resident since May 2000. This has been my first experience of caring for Alzheimer's sufferers and I had no preconceived ideas about what to expect. Having had a lot of experience with housing associations I was wary of "hiding behind bureaucracy", from filing being more important
than residents care. This does not happen at Lys Cyncoed. Naturally, I have raised points during the past years but never have I had to feel concerned as to the level of care shown by all the members of staff.

What a wonderful care home! Llys Cyncoed has the look of a high-class hotel but with the warmth of home. My dad has been a resident there for three weeks and is receiving excellent care. The staff are all, without exception, compassionate and friendly, and treat my father with respect and kindness.
Nothing seems too much trouble for them in trying to make my father feel at home. Senior staff are approachable and professional and are always available to chat through any concerns. My dad has a lovely room overlooking the garden, and I appreciate the open-plan ground floor. It means that when dad is not in his bedroom, there is always something to see and people to talk to. Dad has already joined in a few of the many activities which is a triumph in itself as he had not shown any interest in doing much when he was at home. I put that down to improved care, more nutritious food, and plenty of encouragement. I have visited many care homes and I have never experienced one as good as this!

My Nan came to stay at Llys Cyncoed back in March for a month of respite. She had been quite poorly and really struggling with each day. The care she has received from day one from the reception staff, care, catering and management has been unbelievable. So much so, that she is now a permanent resident
and is completely back to herself. To know your loved one is happy, safe and so well cared for is something that means so much to me and my family. The personal touch is something that is so noticeable. Not only to the resident but to the family too, the staff really take the time to get to know family members to then keep things familiar. Such a special place.

My wife has been cared for by this establishment for almost five years. Her care is exemplary, the staff always go the extra mile to make sure that she is content despite the challenges that she faces as someone with early onset dementia. If there are any changes to her condition or if an incident occurs
I am immediately informed and any proposed action is discussed with me. There is an excellent activity program which seeks to engage residents at whatever level is suitable for them

Although I telephone nearly every day, I have not visited my sister for nine months, since shortly after she first came to Llys Cyncoed, because of Covid and the distance I live from Cardiff. I visited her last week and was really impressed by how much happier she seemed. The staff are so caring and
take a personal interest in my sister: they make her feel safe and secure. My sister has a lovely room with her belongings, so she feels very much that this is her home.
She has plenty of activities to join in, if she feels like it. There is a lovely garden to sit or wander in and the family are welcomed when they visit. The food is very good - in fact I tell my sister that I shall be joining her when I reach her age!

Very helpful and supportive staff friendly and well-maintained home. Good food. Plenty to do. Always offered a hot drink on arrival. Modern light ambience. Could do with better car parking for visitors.

In regards to car parking you should be able to find spaces when you arrive but if you have any issues please do let the concierge know and we’ll do our best to help. We are also currently undertaking some improvement works to our car parking which will clearly align individual parking spaces and direct team members at the home to only park on one side - this will allow visitors far greater accessibility to a parking space.

Staff are wonderful, always helpful and supportive. It would be great to see more and a wider variety of activities that cover more diverse interests, abilities and are more frequent. More trips need to be organised to ensure the residents can go out at least twice a week.

In regards to activities, we do offer different activities each day which are chosen using feedback from residents about what they’d enjoy, but of course, we’re always open to updating and adding new things too – if there’s something your loved one would love to do, whether an old hobby or something new they’d like to try, just let us know. In regards to trips, we’ve obviously been restricted in the past couple of years by the pandemic as to what we can do and what’s permitted, but the home does have its own minibus and we’re happy to let you know that, since restrictions have eased, residents have been enjoying plenty of regular trips out – as the weather warms we hope to get out about even more too to local beauty spots and further afield.

Llys Cyncoed is a truly amazing place from every point of view. All staff are polite, caring, friendly, professional, welcoming etc. and communication with residents and their families is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff they are happy to provide whatever a resident needs
or would like including food options. The atmosphere is relaxed peaceful and welcoming and the place is immaculately clean and user friendly. I would highly recommend Llys Cyncoed to anyone.

The staff at Llys Cyncoed have been extremely kind and friendly to my mother and all the members of our family who have visited. Mum has been a resident for 6 months with a dementia condition. She was no longer able to live on her own independently despite daily visits from the local care support team. We tried hard to make that work but it wasn't to be. At Llys, mum has benefited greatly from having a structured day and routine,
with social interaction and dedicated people looking out for her and caring for her with quiet time in her room when she needs it. The staff and the level of care have been brilliant and that has taken a lot of worry and stress from her family. We have made her room at Llys really homely and it was fantastic that Llys allowed us to do that and have familiar things around her, really important. Mum feels at home at Llys and is being cared for and looked after wonderfully. The staff take a really personal interest in mum and encourage her to remember and talk about things that have been important to her. The staff keep the family constantly updated too which is great. Thank you so much.

We moved mom here when she was no longer able to live independently with dementia. We viewed a number of care homes before moving her and we felt here was the best place for her. During the viewing, the staff took time to learn about mom and make suggestions on the best support for her.


Mom has

been a resident for six months and I've been consistently impressed with the staff and the level of care they provide. I'm kept fully up to date with everything to do with mom's care. I no longer worry about phone calls as I know she's safe and well looked after. Her well being has improved significantly and it's all thanks to the staff.

My in-laws first had an initial 2-week respite in September 2021 whilst we went on holiday. They had both had a number of falls at their bungalow so we were pleased when the home could take them in. My father-in-law has vascular dementia at the age of 91 and my mother-in-law is frail at 88 and has
had significant problems with her legs since falling. In November, they initially moved in for respite following another fall but they have been so impressed with the level of care, attention to detail, empathetic attitudes of the staff, and the standard of the accommodation that they have now decided to stay permanently. The staff have been so supportive to us in many ways and have kept us fully informed of any issues relating to their health, well-being, and care requirements. We really cannot thank them enough. We love the fact that we can take our dog in to see them - the staff and other residents have also enjoyed a waggy tail.

Overall pretty good. Tend to be over careful about contacting relatives as sometimes we are told that something has happened which is fairly minor eg sore finger, sore foot, fall but no damage. It would be helpful if someone on duty was qualified to make decisions about the seriousness of something,
seem too quick to call a doctor or ambulance due to reluctance to take responsibility. Fees are high enough to warrant such a member of staff.

My mother moved to Llys Cyncoed during the Summer of 2020, obviously, you want the best possible environment for your loved one to be in, having reviewed a lot of Care homes, I finally chose Llys Cyncoed (formerly Sunrise) as when I first made contact, they couldn’t have been more helpful, putting my
mind at rest, it’s quite traumatic going through this journey, for your loved one. I made the right choice, my mum has settled, the staff are so warm and caring, you feel as if you are part of their family as well, someone you can talk to if you have any concerns, a lovely environment to live in, the gardens are beautiful in the summer, I’m a very happy daughter, because my mum is happy and contented, and that’s the most important thing for me

Our mum has been in Llys Cyncoed for the past 12 months.
From the outset, the Director of Community Relations, arranged a virtual tour over zoom, to show Mum the facilities and the type of suite Mum would have, which immediately instilled confidence in both Mum and us as a family.
The superb facilities
are obvious as soon as you set foot inside Llys Cyncoed. Added to that, there is a full weekly itinerary of activities to suit all capability levels and a very varied menu at mealtimes. There is no pressure on residents, to take part or go on excursions, but encouragement is always there from the care team.
Finally, but most importantly, the whole care team are fabulous, empathetic, and very responsive to their resident's needs. They make all the residents feel special and due to them, Mum has come out of her shell and is now fully immersed in the activities. The transformation is all down to the care team at Llys Cyncoed.
We would highly recommend this care home to anyone who needs it.

Carley Hunt

Job Title: General Manager

I started my career in care in 2011 and have worked my way up to General Manager.


Overseeing the smooth running of Llys Cyncoed keeps me busy, and you definitely need to multitask and be flexible.


One of my favourite parts of the day is the time I spend with residents. I always make sure to join in the daily anagrams challenge. As well as testing my word puzzle skills, interacting with residents helps me better understand the support they need.


I have a level five diploma in leadership for health and social care services, and learning and development are hugely important to me. In particular, I am keen to nurture colleagues who want to progress in their careers. Supporting achievements means we’re always striving to do our best for each other and residents.


As a mum of two, I am equally busy outside of work. I enjoy fun activities with my children and when I can, take walks along the beach and in forests.
