Wonderful calm atmosphere plenty of activities. Respect of individuals excellent. Good rooms and able to bring own furniture which helps residents to settle well and excellent assisted living service.

The social and activity side of things is a real credit to this home. Unfortunately, since requiring nursing care at a far higher cost my grandmother has experienced many problems with overstretched care staff and often bad attitudes.
Complaints to head office management were met with a lack of serious
engagement with issues of safety and care.

All the staff are warm and welcoming. Every time I come to visit my dad, nothing is too much trouble for them despite them being busy most of the time. When I leave my dad I can rest assured he is in the best place, safe well fed and secure.

My husband has been in Sunrise of Cardiff for 30 days respite when I could not longer look after him. The manager was extremely helpful in facilitating him coming to Sunrise of Cardiff, even to sending carers to visit my husband at his daughter's house where he was staying. My husband who is retired
and rather deaf found it difficult to communicate with the men on his table, who were also deaf. He is reluctant to speak to a group of women who sit in the bistro. There are very few men who socialise downstairs so he has been heavily reliant on me for company. I encourage him to join in the activities but a lot of those, especially those after supper, were not led by anyone. The concierge would pour drinks and put some music on, but 'meditation' for example was not structured or led. So activities for my husband have been disappointing. The evenings then are very long as supper is at 4.45.

Sunrise of Cardiff is a wonderful residential home. My mother is very happy there and that gives me peace of mind that she is in the best place for her needs. The care is very good all of the staff are lovely, food fantastic and wonderful rooms to have activities, gardens kept well. Treated with care
and dignity at all times 100% the best.

It is only when visiting and having a relative to stay in residential care that you realise what an extraordinary job is done. All of the care staff here are exceptional and never have I had any concerns for my relatives safety. Not sure I can afford to move in yet!

Mum has had such a good time throughout Christmas and into the New Year, all the way through to her birthday towards the end of January. She has been fully engaged with many of the activities organised and having been at Sunrise for about six months or so, is not only mentally more alert but physically
and healthy and very content.

The general standard of Sunrise is very good. However the food is not that good when you look at the costs residents have to pay. There is a lack of quality and variety. The kitchen is closed sometimes and good quality sandwiches are not generally available. Activities are poor with no stimulation
for residents. There seems to be a lack of soft drinks and snacks available and no themed evenings arranged. The cheese and wine evenings are poor with a lack of quality and quantity.

Carley Hunt

Job Title: General Manager

I started my career in care in 2011 and have worked my way up to General Manager.


Overseeing the smooth running of Llys Cyncoed keeps me busy, and you definitely need to multitask and be flexible.


One of my favourite parts of the day is the time I spend with residents. I always make sure to join in the daily anagrams challenge. As well as testing my word puzzle skills, interacting with residents helps me better understand the support they need.


I have a level five diploma in leadership for health and social care services, and learning and development are hugely important to me. In particular, I am keen to nurture colleagues who want to progress in their careers. Supporting achievements means we’re always striving to do our best for each other and residents.


As a mum of two, I am equally busy outside of work. I enjoy fun activities with my children and when I can, take walks along the beach and in forests.
