The staff at Maes Y Bryn are incredibly caring and loving. They show great respect and empathy towards my mother and treat her with dignity. The home appears to be a very friendly and happy place and nothing is too much trouble for any member of the team. My father and I visit regularly and we always
receive a warm and friendly welcome. My mother was very unwell recently and we had to prepare for the worst but, with the exceptional care she received at Maes Y Bryn, my mother is now in good health. We are always kept up to date and informed of any changes in Mum’s condition and if my mum does become unwell, this is acted upon immediately.

I am so happy with the care my mother is receiving here. Excellent, friendly, and helpful staff, my mother loves them! Communication between myself and the staff and management is excellent. Safety for the residents is obvious at all times, their safety is paramount.
I am positive that my mother would
not be able to get better care anywhere.
A ten out of ten for me.

My mum is receiving excellent care. The staff are professional and very supportive. My only concern is the amount of weight my mother has lost. I feel that the staff should have talked more to me about this and earlier on in her care. Other than that, I'm very happy and grateful for the work of Maes
y Bryn in Port Talbot.

Whilst my recent experience is limited due to the Covid pandemic I can state the following.
My aunt appears to be happy and contented. The home has kept us up to date with her welfare e.g when she has been ill etc. My overall impression is that my aunt is well cared for.

All the staff are friendly, helpful and informative. Very caring towards my husband who is in the advanced stage of vascular dementia.
Due to the pandemic, I have been unable to see the facilities of the home ie: the dining room, sitting room etc. Also not aware of the activities on offer, but this
month a regular newsletter has started which is really good for keeping relatives up to date with what is going on in the home.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.363)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.363) out of 10 for Maes y Bryn is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.783 for Maes y Bryn is calculated as follows: ( (18 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 4.783

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.58 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Maes y Bryn is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 registered maximum number of service users is 4.4. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 4.4 = 0.455

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
