Abermill care home, nestled in the heart of the village of Abertridwr, near Caerphilly, provides personalised residential and residential dementia care to older people.

Having been tastefully decorated in 2024, the home offers modern furnishings and rooms with a view, which offer beautiful scenery and views over the Aber stream. There's also a hair salon, library service, café and minibus for resident trips out.

Abermill care home boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. On those sunny summer days, the patio area is the ideal spot for catching up with family and friends.

The catering team prides itself on ensuring that each meal is an enjoyable and heart-warming experience for every resident and visitor to the home.

Not a lot I can say. My overall experience has been very good. The one problem I had was dealt with dignity and sorted almost instantly.

My father has become a different person for being in Abermill which is a testament to all the staff for making him so welcome and engaging and caring for him as they do. He has a great relationship with the staff and believe he is a well-used character. The attention to his care is second to none and
speaking with him today he has never felt so good for some time as he does now being at Abermill.

My nan is a resident at Abermill, they had an open day recently and it was lovely, 80's theme, everyone was dressed up, loads of activities to do, singing dancing, my nan enjoyed herself. It's always lovely and clean.

What a wonderful place. I didn't want my Mum to go into care but I was unwell myself so this was no option! I couldn't wish for her to be anywhere better after that at home. Wonderful staff! Nothing too much of a problem for them.

The 80's celebration entertainment for residents and family was excellent - great fun and participation. All clients were shown love and care absolutely everyone was included. I can only recommend and thank all the organisers for such a great time.

My wife and I have been visiting our friend at Abermill Care Home on a roughly fortnightly basis for the past three years. We have, invariably, found her to be comfortable and content in her surroundings. We have always found the staff to be welcoming, friendly and attentive to both residents and visitors

Abermill Care Home had their care home open day. What a lovely atmosphere. It's lovely to see everyone getting together and enjoying themselves and seeing staff all making an amazing effort. They all work hard all year through. My mam is so settled in Abermill and well looked after. She's always enjoying
the activities provided each day and still enjoys going out with her husband. My father is always made welcome each day he visits. Plus the new refurbishment is lovely and fresh. Be nice when the new garden is done.

At first, I was anxious/nervous for my grandmother to reside in a care home, but Abermill have put my worries to rest. The staff are brilliant, caring and incredibly supportive. The entertainment for all residents is also enjoyable and family days are a great way of getting fully involved.

My wife has been in Abermill Care Home for quite a while. I visit her each day the staff always offer me tea or coffee. My wife enjoys joining in activities with residents, the home has been refurbished and looks very nice and fresh, I also attend family meetings I would absolutely recommend Abermill,

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kind care means getting to know people and understanding their emotions, making every effort to offer the best possible care, and getting Residents involved in the activities that make them happiest.”


Christine started working at Abermill in 2001, and later progressed to Home Manager level after excelling in her role as Deputy Manager at the home. She has gained experience in a number of different care services, including residential and memory care, and has achieved qualifications in health and social services, management and care.


Christine closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys the most about her role, Christine remarked: “I enjoy taking time to interact with Residents and their Relatives, which allows me to get to know each individual on a personal level.”


Christine credits her biggest achievement as completing a 3km sponsored walk, raising more than £400 for Alzheimer’s Society with the support from her Colleagues and Residents.


Outside of work, Christine enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, including watching her niece and nephew play rugby.
