Abermill care home, nestled in the heart of the village of Abertridwr, near Caerphilly, provides personalised residential and residential dementia care to older people.

Having been tastefully decorated in 2024, the home offers modern furnishings and rooms with a view, which offer beautiful scenery and views over the Aber stream. There's also a hair salon, library service, café and minibus for resident trips out.

Abermill care home boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. On those sunny summer days, the patio area is the ideal spot for catching up with family and friends.

The catering team prides itself on ensuring that each meal is an enjoyable and heart-warming experience for every resident and visitor to the home.

The professional care team at Abermill take the time to learn about each resident’s individual hobbies and interests, to help those living in the home to lead an active and fulfilling life. Very good care for my mum. Friendly and helpful team. 10 out of 10. Facilities are excellent, location is great and the care home is spotless. My mum is happy there and well looked after every day.

My mother has been in Abermill since April 2022 and I am very happy with the care she gets. She has settled in well and is happy there. From management to staff I find them very helpful and caring and nothing is too much trouble for them and always willing to chat when I visit. I would have no hesitation

Mam has only been a resident at Abermill a week, and what a difference in her already. What has been such a worrying time for us as a family, has turned into one of the best weeks thanks to the amazing staff at Abermill - from the maintenance last, who prepared Mam's room before she arrived, to the

Abermill is a loving care home. The staff and carers are very courteous, friendly and helpful. There is always an uplifting atmosphere. Management is always available to discuss any concerns. The environment and climate of the home are of an extended family. My mother-in-law is very happy there.

Not able to give some ratings as due to covid we have been restricted with our visits, so things such as the cleanliness of rooms, food and drink, activities, we can only surmise at. Mam seems happy and contented and the staff are friendly.

Abermill Care Home is such an amazing place. My nan was a resident here until she passed away in January 2021. She was cared for amazingly during her time here. The staff are so friendly and enthusiastic - especially the care and compassion the staff showed during the pandemic when we were unable to
visit her. Would recommend this care home to anyone.

The staff are brilliant and we as a family are so pleased we can be assured our mum is having the very best of care. Despite lockdown, we are kept up to date with mum's health and well-being. I’m extremely pleased with the way that my grandmother has been cared for by the staff at Abermill. Before the outbreak of the pandemic, not being able to visit my grandmother as consistently as I would have liked to, I was very much comforted to see that my grandmother had friends in the other residents
at the home, and was in the very warm company of the staff. My grandmother took great pleasure in the activities that were planned to keep the residents entertained and occupied, and I’m convinced that a much higher level of socialisation that my grandmother has experienced while being a resident at the home has added years to her life. Many residents have been born and bred in Abertridwr, my grandmother included, so there’s no doubt that Abermill is very much an invaluable part of the Abertridwr community. Since March of last year, I have had much faith in the staff’s handling of safety arrangements, and have had my mind at ease knowing that my grandmother is in safe hands! Thank you!

I cannot speak highly enough of the care and compassion that every member of staff has shown my mother whilst in their care. I am so pleased that so far they have managed to keep my mam safe and well during the covid pandemic. Their attention to the residents is absolutely first class. I haven't seen
my mother looking so well for years despite not having a haircut for over a year. When I speak to her she only has praise for the staff. They go above and beyond to mark occasions in the home with celebrations when they can. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the staff that keep my mam safe and well - you are doing an amazing job.

The staff are absolutely wonderful and have cared for my mother. They have gone above and beyond their duties, nothing is ever too much for them. The manager and all the staff at Abermill have worked tirelessly to ensure the residents have been as safe as possible during the lockdown. Although they have had cases of Coronavirus, they’ve still looked after the residents with 100% commitment. They’ve become the second family to my mother-in-law
in these difficult times. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Abermill.

My mother has been a resident at Abermill since Sept 2017. She is very happy here and enjoys all the excellent entertainment here. The staff are very kind to all residents and treat them all with compassion and respect. The food offered is of excellent quality and she is offered choices. During the
coronavirus, they kept in touch with me by phone, zoom and Whatsapp. I was able to keep in touch with my mother digitally. I have no hesitation in recommending Abermill Care Home.

My sister has now been resident at Abermill Care Home for the past 6 months. During this time she has been very appreciative of the care and respect she has received from all the staff. The past 14 weeks have been a tester for all concerned and I am very grateful for ALL the staff for their dedication,

Christine

Christine Tipper

Job Title: Home Manager

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kind care means getting to know people and understanding their emotions, making every effort to offer the best possible care, and getting Residents involved in the activities that make them happiest.”


Christine started working at Abermill in 2001, and later progressed to Home Manager level after excelling in her role as Deputy Manager at the home. She has gained experience in a number of different care services, including residential and memory care, and has achieved qualifications in health and social services, management and care.


Christine closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys the most about her role, Christine remarked: “I enjoy taking time to interact with Residents and their Relatives, which allows me to get to know each individual on a personal level.”


Christine credits her biggest achievement as completing a 3km sponsored walk, raising more than £400 for Alzheimer’s Society with the support from her Colleagues and Residents.


Outside of work, Christine enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, including watching her niece and nephew play rugby.
