Abermill care home, nestled in the heart of the village of Abertridwr, near Caerphilly, provides personalised residential and residential dementia care to older people.

Having been tastefully decorated in 2024, the home offers modern furnishings and rooms with a view, which offer beautiful scenery and views over the Aber stream. There's also a hair salon, library service, café and minibus for resident trips out.

Abermill care home boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. On those sunny summer days, the patio area is the ideal spot for catching up with family and friends.

The catering team prides itself on ensuring that each meal is an enjoyable and heart-warming experience for every resident and visitor to the home.

The professional care team at Abermill take the time to learn about each resident’s individual hobbies and interests, to help those living in the home to lead an active and fulfilling life. My mother has been a resident since last year and has settled in well thanks to the dedication of the staff. When she hasn’t been well they have promptly called the GP and kept us updated on the situation. Staff are very caring and treat mum like a member of their own family and because of the lockdown
they are under more pressure than ever but are coping extremely well. They are never too busy to give us an update when we call them to see how Mum is doing, as mum finds it difficult to hold a conversation on the phone.

My father has been a resident for over 2 years. During this time his dementia has progressed to such a degree that he no longer knows his own family. I live over 250 miles away and know although I can't get across as much as I would like, the team at Abermill looks after him like they would their own.
Something I can't thank them enough for.
They are angels and even more so now we are all under government lockdown.

The staff are excellent.
The food and drink are excellent.
Room 302 is like an icebox! members of staff put a heater in it and it is much better now. Apart from this everything is excellent.

Please be assured this was checked by our maintenance operative and there have been no issues noted with the radiator in the room; it is giving off heat. We have spoken to staff to ensure windows are kept closed due to the cold weather and anticipate this should help. If however either your relative or you experience any further issues then please see or contact the Home Manager.

It took a little while for my sister-in-law to settle in mainly due to her illness and circumstances. The staff have been fabulous with her, and she has settled down. Going out on the minibus and sing songs have been fab for her. We are so pleased, as she has been through such a stressful time prior
to coming into Abermill. Would highly recommend the staff and care she has been given.

The care home is clean, warm and nicely decorated giving it a homely feeling. The staff give their all to help the residents in all situations. The food is always cooked and looks great. My mother has been a resident here for two-plus years and she is happy and well cared for.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where necessary. As there is no specific quiet area on the Ein Cartref community for families to use when visiting, the staff are happy to assist your Mother and you to a quieter area or bedroom to allow for privacy during visits. Unfortunately, for the security of the home and those we care for, we are not permitted to give out the access codes to the building. I understand the frustration this may cause especially on weekends when you may have to wait a little longer for the door to be opened but the safety and wellbeing of our residents is paramount.

I visit Abermill Care Home every week to see my auntie. It is a lovely and clean, the food is outstanding. The staff are warm and friendly towards family visitors.
My auntie is very well cared for by all the staff members which are very noticeable when we visit it's like home from home. I love spending

My father went into Abermill Care Home for two weeks for respite and we were all extremely impressed with the care home. All the staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. My father commented that the food was wonderful and it was like staying in a 5 star all inclusive hotel.
The
home itself is very clean and the staff ensure all the residents are looked after. The whole family were happy with the care my father received and this eased our minds knowing this.

The home from home my grandad needs to live a fulfilling life alongside his dementia diagnosis.
Wider family are always made to feel at home and part of the care home's day to day routine. Lovely to be able to stay for meals and hear about the rich varied activity schedule. Couldn't ask for a better
home for my grandad. Abermill really is an extension of our family.

Christine

Christine Tipper

Job Title: Home Manager

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kind care means getting to know people and understanding their emotions, making every effort to offer the best possible care, and getting Residents involved in the activities that make them happiest.”


Christine started working at Abermill in 2001, and later progressed to Home Manager level after excelling in her role as Deputy Manager at the home. She has gained experience in a number of different care services, including residential and memory care, and has achieved qualifications in health and social services, management and care.


Christine closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys the most about her role, Christine remarked: “I enjoy taking time to interact with Residents and their Relatives, which allows me to get to know each individual on a personal level.”


Christine credits her biggest achievement as completing a 3km sponsored walk, raising more than £400 for Alzheimer’s Society with the support from her Colleagues and Residents.


Outside of work, Christine enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, including watching her niece and nephew play rugby.
