Abermill care home, nestled in the heart of the village of Abertridwr, near Caerphilly, provides personalised residential and residential dementia care to older people.

Having been tastefully decorated in 2024, the home offers modern furnishings and rooms with a view, which offer beautiful scenery and views over the Aber stream. There's also a hair salon, library service, café and minibus for resident trips out.

Abermill care home boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. On those sunny summer days, the patio area is the ideal spot for catching up with family and friends.

The catering team prides itself on ensuring that each meal is an enjoyable and heart-warming experience for every resident and visitor to the home.

The professional care team at Abermill take the time to learn about each resident’s individual hobbies and interests, to help those living in the home to lead an active and fulfilling life. In addition to the range of activities available, the home also encourages residents to take an active role in the Caerphilly community, from building relationships with the neighbours in local community groups and schools, to arranging sightseeing trips in the local area.

Following circumstances that meant our elderly Aunt would not be able stay in her own home, she needed 24-hour care and support. We looked at a care homes for her and after contacting several, Abermill was the one that stood out for us. The attitude, approach and friendliness from day 1, gave us a good
feeling and made us feel that we were placing our Aunt in the next best place to her own home. She was immediately accepted by all staff and given the support to make her transition to something that is so different, and probably scary for her, a lot easier. As family, we were made to feel that we had done the right. Many weeks on and she has settled fairly well, she still gets her off days but with what she's been through, she's entitled to. Whether she is having a good day or a bad day, she is made to feel special and cared for. Abermill is a great environment; the residents are well cared for, staff are attentive, caring and professional. It's a great place to be part of.

Mothers bedroom frequently smells of urine - on more than one occasion, could only be described as "over-powering". Type of bed only changed following a meeting with the home manager. Smell improved following change of bed - however it now seems to be deteriorating again.
Xmas day and Xmas dinner -
"abysmal" - meal bland - mashed potato, mushy peas and meat - looked awful. Nothing going on to suggest that it was Xmas Day. Little/no activities going on with the residents.

I am very happy with the care my dad receives. He is always kept clean and tidy, the staff deliver a high standard of care and are very welcoming towards myself, my family and mam. Would highly recommend to anyone. happy father, happy son.

The level of care that Abermil is providing for my brother-in-law is amazing. I am happy with the facilities that are on often at Abermill. Abermill is a very clean home and a happy environment. The domestic staff here are outstanding and the care staff are second to none. The management is very good.
There are plenty of activities for the residents. I wouldn't change a thing. My brother-in-law is spoilt here at Abermill.

This is the first time I have met my partner's nan and it's clear to see that she is very well cared for and all residents are very happy. All staff friendly and welcoming.

This is the first time I have been able to visit, my nan has been here as I was working away. I was very upset to find out that she was in a care home. However as soon as I saw my nan, how well looked after and happy she looked, I knew this was the best place she could be in. She even has her perfect
perm back! We saw the entertainment which was a singer and it was the most fun I saw my nan have in years! All her carers were lovely and caring, always telling her how beautiful she looked! I'm looking forward to many more visits!

My mother has been a resident for many years now and the care she receives is wonderful. I have always had a good relationship with staff who work there and I find them very caring and dedicated with their care for my mother. I always find the atmosphere at the home very happy and welcoming and it is

Staff are always friendly and attentive. Mum has settled well and enjoys the company of other residents and of the staff. She joins in with the activities on offer and seems to really enjoy them. The singalongs are her favourite!

Christine Tipper

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kind care means getting to know people and understanding their emotions, making every effort to offer the best possible care, and getting Residents involved in the activities that make them happiest.”


Christine started working at Abermill in 2001, and later progressed to Home Manager level after excelling in her role as Deputy Manager at the home. She has gained experience in a number of different care services, including residential and memory care, and has achieved qualifications in health and social services, management and care.


Christine closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys the most about her role, Christine remarked: “I enjoy taking time to interact with Residents and their Relatives, which allows me to get to know each individual on a personal level.”


Christine credits her biggest achievement as completing a 3km sponsored walk, raising more than £400 for Alzheimer’s Society with the support from her Colleagues and Residents.


Outside of work, Christine enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, including watching her niece and nephew play rugby.
