Church View care home is ideally located in the centre of Caerphilly in South Wales and offers a welcoming and homely setting where the team specialise in residential and residential dementia care for older people.

The team at Church View are committed to helping residents to maintain a positive quality of life, whatever that means to them. As well as the range of activities available, residents are also encouraged to stay connected with the Caerphilly community, from building relationships with neighbours in local community groups and schools, to arranging sightseeing trips in the local area.

Inside, the home has been carefully designed to provide residents with a space where they feel at home, whilst also being equipped to offer the highest quality care and support. There is a range of premier and wet room options, as well as a hair salon and café on site, and residents can enjoy mealtimes in the specially designed dining areas. During the warmer months, the peaceful courtyard garden is the ideal spot for some alfresco dining.

With the support of the home manager, each member of the team at Church View is there to help make the home a happy place to live, delivering the kindest care to residents and supporting them to lead their best possible life.

Mum moved into Church View Care Home during lockdown, which was difficult for her and us as a family.
The support of staff to mum and us in extremely difficult circumstances has been excellent. Communication channels are strong and we are comforted in the fact that Mum is being looked after and supported
in a professional caring and conscientious manner.

I would just like to thank all the wonderful staff at Church View Care Home for the love and care they show my mum.
This month I was able to visit the home after 17 months. The staff were exceptional, following procedures with the utmost respect for the fact that I had travelled for 5 hours to get
there.
It was an emotional and happy visit. My mum seems so happy and the staff showed her so much love.

My mother moved in just after lockdown started and even though it has been a difficult time for us and her not being able to see us, we always felt that she was getting the best of care. I have never had any problem speaking with staff on the phone, they are always friendly and helpful. In my mother's
words 'the food is lovely and there is a lot of it ' and I think, in spite of her difficulties, I think she's content there and that's the most important thing to us.

It is enjoyable to come here, you are warmly welcomed and nothing seems to be too much trouble. My dad now has more going on in his life and is more alert and mobile and healthier. As a family, our minds are now easier knowing he is being cared for and looked after by professionals. Thanks for looking

My uncle over the last few months has been very poorly. The care he has been given has been excellent. The carers over the period of the pandemic have done a wonderful job. They must have felt very scared they would take it back to their families, but still, they came to work. It is such a relief as
a family to know he is being cared for so well. The communication with the manager and carers is excellent. Thank you so much and well done.

My mother is a resident at Church View. The care home has facilitated the opportunity for family members to have window visits during lockdown over the last year. In addition, they've supported an online video call with her family in Germany. The family fed back to me how grateful they were to have
the opportunity to have a chat and to see my mother looking so well.
I speak to my mother often, and she seems happy in the care of Church View.

Both my sister and I are very happy with the care my mother received at the home. Excellent staff and care given. Good activities and entertainment with the Covid crisis. The staff will contact me and advise on my mother's welfare. The staff also arranged outdoor visits after the first lockdown. Last
week, the staff telephoned me to arrange a visit to see our mother via a closed window and via a telephone call. Very happy to see my mother after four months.

I visited my mother today and had a window viewing. The carer was amazing. She put earphones on my mother and connected to her phone, then rang my phone so I could speak to my mother. This really cheered me up and my mum, as I hadn't seen her since last summer.

My mother has been living at Church View Care Home for well over a year now. The location is very convenient for the town and for the family, though of course visiting has not been possible in any meaningful way for months due to Covid-19. The great thing is that the wellbeing co-ordinator has been
excellent in arranging Zoom meetings with all the family that my mother really loves and has been a real lifeline in these times. As well as arranging these, the wellbeing co-ordinator has managed to do a great job of arranging all sorts of activities and sent photos of Mum enjoying herself, and it is very clear that my mother is very fond of and grateful to her. The care that my mother receives is good, and she seems to be very at home there. The main concern I have is over personal hygiene: my mother suffers from dementia and needs prompting to bathe and wash her hair regularly and it is evident at times that her hair has not been washed from some days. It's a shame the rooms are not en-suite.

Unfortunately, Church View does not have the facility for en-suite bathrooms though it would be wonderful if we did. The home manager and senior carer have discussed the concern regarding personal care with the family at the review meeting. It's been a difficult year for everybody and I cannot praise the staff enough for keeping the residents safe and cared for. It's so hard on the outside looking in, especially with the complication of dementia as mam can tell me if there's anything she needs - the activities keep her as happy as she
can be and high praise is needed for the co-ordinator.

I am aware that I was admitted in difficult circumstances. I was made comfortable and reassured and taken care of. I am now settled, coherent! and normal or as normal as is possible.

Very understaffed. needs more staff with bad dementia as some need feeding. This is on the lower floor. Staff don't have enough time to see to everything with the amount of paperwork that needs to be done. I feel they need help at mealtimes etc. Not enough staff on the lower floor. They have got too
much to do for just two members of staff.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service as required. Having reviewed the rotas for the past weeks, there is no evidence to suggest we have been understaffed on the Memory Care Community at any time. Staffing levels are set according to resident dependencies and home occupancy, can be flexed accordingly and are reviewed regularly by senior management. On this particular community, there are two staff to ten residents. Our wellbeing coordinator is working across all three floors during this period of isolation and we have compiled some photos of your mother in law when she has taken part in activities and would be happy to post these out to you. The Home Manager undertakes twice daily walk rounds of the home and has noted no concerns regarding cleanliness. The home operates an open-door policy and would welcome a call with you to discuss any concerns you may have. Please be reassured the happiness and wellbeing of residents remains our utmost priority.

The staff are amazing, all went out of their way to make my father's birthday party so special. It was the hardest decision in my life to put dad in a care home. I can say this was the best decision and the best choice of care home.
The lady came in on her day off to help make my father's day special,
organised the singer. 10 out of 10.

My mother has only been here for a few days; my first visit to this care home. I am impressed by the homeliness of this centre. I also am struck by the kindness of all the care workers. The staff treated my Mum with respect, but firmness, when she had a panic attack and affirmed that she did not have
to do anything that she did not want to. A long term resident of the centre chatting away praising all aspects of Castle view and told me that her neighbour was upset when she was leaving. Care workers are under the microscope these days - I am confident that she is safe and the staff will take good care of her.

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kindness means treating residents in our care as I would want a member of my family to be cared for.”


As a dedicated healthcare professional, Lisa has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for residents.


Lisa closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Lisa remarked:


“Having the time to implement positive changes that make a difference in the lives of the residents and colleagues”.


When describing her proudest achievements, Lisa said,


“Starting as a Care Assistant and progressing my career to Home Manager has been mentally and personally fulfilling.”


Outside of work, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and going on holiday to Turkey. She also enjoys meeting up with friends for a catch-up and a glass of wine or two.
