Covid 19 is certainly making an impact on our mothers well being. She frequently
Sadly, our mother's dementia is currently progressing, however, we continue to be very impressed by the way the manager involves the doctor, psychiatric nurse and review teams to monitor her care needs and keep us updated.
The team continue to make it possible for us to visit and stay in contact with our mother. We regularly speak through a window by phone, sit under the gazebo in the garden or Skype each other. Reflecting on negative press coverage about other care homes makes us feel proud of everyone at Cartref!

My mother was horrified by the lack of nutritious, well balanced and appetising food. Residents are filled up with cheap stodge such as jelly and ice cream, biscuits and white bread. There was little or nothing in the way of fresh fruit and little in the way of a variety of fresh vegetables. In the information pack there was reference to supper at 8.30 pm but this never materialised.
The outside of the home looks rather run down with little attention to the gardens - the so called sensory garden was overgrown and shabby.

As a Support Worker at Cartref, it is a privilege to be able to support our ladies and gentlemen in their everyday lives. Throughout my career, I have met and cared for some truly amazing individuals and I love nothing more than hearing their stories and learning from their experiences. Our residents become our family, as we become theirs, and there is something very special about caring for people who truly appreciate the work that you do. For us at Cartref, it does not feel like a job, and that is a joy in itself.
Job Title: Senior Cook

My name is Linda – I am the Senior Cook at Cartref. I have worked in the catering and hospitality industry for many years and I am very proud of the food and service that we provide at Cartref – everything is fresh and home-made, just as it should be. I like to have our ladies and gentlemen involved in developing the menus as I think it is important to ensure that I am cooking meals that they enjoy and that make them feel good. My team and I are able to cater to all dietary requirements and we work closely with the Activities Co-ordinator so that we can put on the best spreads for special occasions.

Hi, I’m Danni and I’m the Service Manager at Cartref. I started my career in the Health and Social Care sector in 2014. I have worked at Cartref for many years now and it has always had a special place in my heart – our core values are wellness, happiness and kindness, and we all demonstrate these values in our everyday practice.
Cartref has been and will always be a home from home for me, as I know it is for many others. I am so proud to lead my wonderful team at Cartref – our high standards of care are never compromised and Cartref really is a home for all. As the Manager, I support all departments to ensure that our home runs as well as possible for all of our ladies and gentlemen. I invest in all of our staff here as I know that Cartref would not be as wonderful as it is without the hard work and dedication of my team – their commitment and dedication never goes unnoticed.

I joined Team Cartref in 2006 as a Support Worker. However, I have since achieved my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and I have been promoted to Team Leader, which is a job that I thoroughly enjoy. As a Team Leader, I am passionate about delivering high-quality care to all of our ladies and gentlemen here, and it is a pleasure to work alongside all of my colleagues. As a Team, we get to know every resident on an individual basis – we know their likes, their dislikes, their hobbies and interests and we get to know their routines – all of this allows us to deliver person-centred care to each individual, which is so important to all of us at Cartref.

Hi, I’m Cheryl – you’ll often find me greeting you at our front door to welcome you in. I have been part of the Cartref Team for 8 years now and what a wonderful team it is. We all share the same goal – to provide the best care for all of our ladies and gentlemen – and no one on the team will ever let that be compromised. My role allows me to assist our ladies and gentlemen with all of their admin tasks, which I think they really appreciate and I love helping them with anything that they need. Knowing that I am making their a day a bit easier is so rewarding for me.

I started my career as an Activities Co-ordinator in 2006 and since then, I have developed a wealth of knowledge and experience in delivering enjoyable and engaging activities for elderly ladies and gentlemen. My role allows me to get to know everyone on an individual basis and then I work with them to identify activities that will promote their wellness and general happiness. Since joining Team Cartref, I have been working very hard to develop our community links and I am thrilled to say that we now have fantastic relationships with local businesses and alike. We are currently working on an intergenerational project with our local school children – this has been a great success and our ladies and gentlemen love seeing the children on a weekly basis. In addition, we have drama club, book club, knit and knatter, bingo, quizzes, and musical movement and we are visited weekly by Holly, our wonderful singer. There is always so much going on at Cartref and it really does boost everyone’s spirits I am just so happy that I get to be a part of it all.

As the Service Dog here at Cartref, it is my responsibility to make sure everything is kept in order – with plenty of strokes and cuddles being a top priority. You can often find me doing zoomies down the hallway or taking a nap in the Manager’s office.
